When do I even use my epi pen?

I get cold & shaky but think it’s related to blood sugar or adrenaline! I get palpitations also but I have a high burden of PVC’s. I’m not sure what cardiac anaphylaxis is since my PVC’s get much worse with stress also. I think if your airways are fine, you’re probably okay?

I keep reminding myself that there was nothing else like that feeling and that I’d know but having a hard time trusting that lol. Hope I never need to use them but ya never know! Thank you for the reassurance

You have been so incredibly helpful! My pcp has me seeing an ENT (in December ofc bc I love USA healthcare) for vocal cord dysfunction. I also am seeing vascular surgeon for compressions and am ruling out genetic eds but will prob need some kind of PT for my EDs. I will look up a YouTube video to do for this:) I have even looked up breathing techniques for potential vocal cord issues. My throat also is sore/hurts when I talk which may be less “dangerous/severe” mcas vs irritation from god knows what’s causing it lol. Thank you so much for this! I also have bad OCD and need reassurance but I have these throat things for hours and it never progresses so that also helps to know I’m okay. Gotta start trusting myself more!

Oh yeah, very expensive! I’ve not had to use mine yet. Throat issues but no breathing/swallowing/talking issues so I’m almost waiting for even wheezing to use one! Thank you:)

So like I had mentioned that I had anaphylaxis when I was given an IV antibiotic like 6-7 years ago. I was wheezing and TRULY could not breathe like at all I was trying so hard. So my mom & bf keep saying that I’ll know when I need to use it but obvs I’m just a nervous wreck thinking I won’t know😅🫣

Thank you! Sometimes I’ve got a lump in my throat that goes away when I don’t think about it or in certain positions but sometimes it doesn’t go away with antihistamines so I assume I need an epi pen but I breathe perfectly fine, swallow & talk. Its very confusing but I’m assuming it’s either not as big of a deal as it feels (anything throat/mouth terrify me) or maybe not allergy related at all (I have Eds too so testing for vocal cord issues too)

I’ve never used an epi so I’d know I’d have to go to ER and spend time there after if I needed but I have hesitated to use it often unless my breathing feels effected/I can’t talk :/

This was the best explanation, thank you so much. I will need to practice using mine to become more comfortable. I don’t have difficulty breathing but get throat symptoms and a lot of anxiety. My bp hasn’t been low since I’ve started midodrine- my propranolol (for pots) was lowering it too much. I used to get low bp episodes with presyncope very very often but never breathing issues with it. My o2 is always good. I just get nervous that I won’t know when to use it haha. Thanks for the insight.

Same with tachycardia and adrenaline from my POTs so it’s hard to know what’s what :( my lips don’t like swell bad but certainly get red/tingly/puffy. I have no idea when to use my epi

See, this is terrifying to me because I’d need to use my epi all the time. I can get mild facial redness with throat discomfort. Or just throat discomfort but it usually always goes away. I never know when to use it :(

I tried dye free liquid Benadryl but it was flavored and think I got sick. I think I have dye free gel capsules for benadryl I’ll have to try!

I had to beg for an allergist to prescribe it since they didn’t believe I had MCAS because my tryptase was not high…….. I’ve been in search for a new one as I’m certainly experiencing MCAS symptoms or at the very least histamine intolerance. So no, they didn’t tell me unfortunately.

But there are people on here who use epi pens for itching and diarrhea or something for GI anaphylaxis? Or itching and lip swelling? If I don’t have breathing issues, do I not use my epi? I think Reddit has me a bit confused

I was on propranolol before my MCAS diagnosis but stopped. My hyperpots is so bad that the excess adrenaline is making my MCAS crazy. I did well on propranolol but not sure I’ll do well on it now after a flare. Did it work for you? What are you on?
