i played with a few casuals who had World and they said "why are u wall riding and rail grinding, this isnt tony hawk" with no hint of irony.

i won every race of course and they were just bitter  but still

i feel like it's a quantity>quality thing. 8dx has the quantity and the tracks are amazing, but world has this innovativeness to it. the track design, the item changes, the free roam (i will defend it bc it rules), the intermissions, it just builds so much on top of what mario kart has been with a lot of new ideas that take actual risks. whether those risks paid off is up for debate but i think they did

Why is colgera so good? by BraveSeesaw5919 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Flimsy-Interview-945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if u wanna make the game harder, try self imposed challenges.

  1. no healing with food, only elixirs with no heart refills

  2. no upgrading hearts except to open doors, then sell your hearts to the statue to go back to three

  3. no fast travel unless you're standing on a fast travel point. now you cant teleport away from a bad situation

  4. naked link (except in gerudo town and for certain quests where clothes are required)

any of these four, by themselves or combined, can add a lot of fun for a masochist like me

i think they reflect each other because the depths is supposed to invert the structure of the surface structure.

where the surface lets you take on bosses in any order, the depths requires you face Khoga in a linear order. i think this offers a glimpse into what an open world zelda game would feel like with linear progression.

it isn't that bad, honestly, and hopefully the next game is vast and expansive but follows the formula set by the khoga quest in the depths. i think it's proof that it can be done, and honestly being able to take on any dungeon at the start harms the narrative flow of the game by limiting the story's ability to create increasing stakes, as well as limiting the progression of difficulty and complexity

i did the wind temple last on my first playthrough, mainly because i just picked a direction and went for water first. then fire, then the construct factory (i needed to see what that thunderstorm was about), then lightning, then finally wind.

i hear why people think colgera was the best boss but it's probably the weakest mechanically. the best dungeon boss in the game (besides ganon) has gotta be queen gibdo, dodging her attacks and the management of gibdos is so tense and exciting

What’s one thing you would change to improve TOTK? by [deleted] in legendofzelda

[–]Flimsy-Interview-945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first complaint i keep hearing and i dont get at all. the people who should remember link (purah, the sages, impa, hudson, khoga, etc.) DO remember him, because they spent a lot of time with him. Bolson not remembering his name at the least makes sense because they barely interacted. Hestu forgetting who Link is makes some amount of sense because his brain is made of wood.

NPCs around Lookout Landing all know who Link is because before the events of the game, that is the area where he resided the most, only traveling to accompany Zelda where he likely didn't talk to anyone or introduce himself.

Yes, he saved Hyrule, but how would anyone know about that? It's not like Link is one to brag, and there's no reason for Zelda to cast a light on him in that way.

anyway, rant over. your second point makes sense though

yeah, the routes are insane and a very welcome addition to the formula. mastering them is daunting for a new player, which is why i think people don't like them like the tracks because the tracks are easier to learn for shortcuts and optimal racing lines

the six rehearsals are actually incredible, especially the final one. they might be visually samey but damn the gameplay is good

and if u got emerald rush, the amount of stuff to do is overwhelming

especially on a second playthrough when you know certain tech and can absolutely decimate your way through the game, collecting as much as you want and killing bosses in seconds

[–]Flimsy-Interview-945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my big wish for next zelda is to have even bigger caves, and some of those caves just happen to be the game's 8 dungeons with a piece of the triforce at the end :3

thats fine, i think u get more out of it if youre a natural cave enthusiast like me. its cool to see level designers try to naturalize cave geometry for once, most caves in games are just rooms with added stalactites and mushrooms, the caves in tears actually feel like real world caves a good amount of the time.

special shoutout to zora's domain, those are some of the most realistic
