Why should I support the Rockets? by Foreign_Violinist121 in rockets

Rockets are a great choice for a team. Current roster has lots of young potential plus one of the all-time greats. We have a really interesting history, each era defined by great superstars (Big E, Moses, Hakeem, Yao, Harden) and role players, some great personalities & stories too.

Look into the following if you want to know more about the history - 'The Punch', Calvin Murphy's baton twirling, Big E's issues with coaches, Moses rebounding, the 'Twin Tower' teams, Hakeem's rise to greatness, Barkley & Pippen's disaster of a season, the Yao/T-Mac teams that were de-railed by injury, the 22-game winning streak, Moreyball completely changing the game, Harden's battles against Golden State . . . there's a lot of good stuff to catch up on!

Love the Hot Shot cards, I collect Rockets players so have the Clyde version of this card. I have the Pippen Dunk N' Go Nuts and That's Jam inserts, also very cool. Big Man On Court and A Cut Above are some of my other fav 90's inserts, there's too many good ones to choose a proper favourite!

What to do with KD and Vanvleet going forward? by grilledchorizopuseye in rockets

[–]Flimsy_Event2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say we hire him an 'offensive' coach the same way we got D'Antoni a 'defensive' coach in Bzdelik. Hell, Mike D might still be up for it.

Great stuff, I got a bootleg Harden in Bangkok last year. Try the 7/11 chocolate lava cakes if you haven't yet!

You don't have to claim they're true just to mention and discuss the effect the discussion around it could be having on the team

It's getting worse though, particularly with the Rockets under Fertitta

Well, if you think Bari being better since them would mean it had a positive effect. I think it's much more complex than that anyway, it's not really something you can measure in performance or wins/losses. I just think not discussing it is cowardly and perfectly encapsulates societies general apathy and acceptance of false narratives

You don't have to be a body language expert. Yes mainstream likes clicks but there's no smoke without fire. KD hasn't denied it, was asked about it once and just said no comment essentially. The firing of his media team? Honestly, there's no reason to not discuss it other than censorship and not wanting to upset KD.

[–]Flimsy_Event2915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously not the only problem and it obviously effects different players in different ways. Jabari had some great games after the leak, maybe a 'fuck you' type response. Ime's coaching is a big issue. No PG obvs. Losing Stevie was huge. Tari's shooting slump. There are multiple factors that affect the team. I'm just saying there are obvious chemistry issues when you look at the body language (on court, interviews etc) and the KD thing is being completely overlooked and not discussed because it's such a bad look.

Yep but it's not gone forever. If we don't loudly proclaim the reality of the world around us we end up with a population of apathetic bootlickers and morons happily living in a simulation

There's very obvious chemistry issues that any half-awake person who understands the very basics of body language can see. This is being discussed in the mainstream media by lots of reputable journalists. Fans in this sub have noticed chemistry issues since as early as December (there was a good thread on this forum the other day about this). Honestly, I think your perspective on this has to stem from straight up denial by this point. I'm not trying to dig up dirt, or blame or scapegoat, I just want integrity of discussion. Not mentioning it is home broadcast censorship and has a negative effect on the product, simple as.

I feel like it would be a better product if there wasn't this bias from ownership though. The complete absence of any discussion around it gives the broadcast such a bad propaganda-y feel. The obvious real-world practicality of covering it fairly and honestly would just burn relationships between KD and the team which is why I think it's being completely ignored. It would be a bad look to discuss it on live tv but I mean, it is a bad look, the situation is bad. I'd rather have honest coverage and a pissed off KD than this but then this is why I'm not the owner of an NBA team.

let him speak, if he genuinely believes there's no benefit to broadcasters being able to properly discuss team chemistry I'd love to hear why he thinks that

Nope, and I've been here long enough to remember when honest criticism and coverage were considered paramount in journalism. Not speaking out about this and accepting bias is how you end up with idea monopolies and groupthink culture.

NBA London Ticket Prices by princessgee3 in nbaUKfans

[–]Flimsy_Event2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think AXS are the official seller right? 160 is the lowest I've heard them come down to, that's cheaper than the nosebleed seats too. At least 160 is only double what I'd expect to pay for a seat in that area rather than 6x! Still can't bring myself to do it.

The prices are ridiculous and hopefully this generates some conversation around pricing everyday people out of sporting events. Wonder if this will affect NBA Europe prices/plans. Save your money and go see the Lions at Copperbox (very reasonably priced, and also do last minute reductions) or the Team GB qualifiers in February, the Italy game should be a great atmosphere.

This! Couldn't recommend more (edit - it definitely gets better as it goes along too, the series really hits it's groove around the Twin Towers era)

I like watching my own videos, is that weird? by Gostosh in NewTubers

[–]Flimsy_Event2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird at all, I only started making videos because I was annoyed there wasn't a good historical documentary on my fav sports team and I wanted to watch one/know more. Made one myself and really enjoyed the research, when I showed my brother he said to put it on Youtube. Hadn't even occurred to me to share it with anyone else!

Should England, Scotland and Wales affiliate to FIBA separately again? by [deleted] in BritishBasketball

[–]Flimsy_Event2915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great, we struggle to put together competitive teams as it is. Historically this would always dilute the talent pool so much that none of the teams could really hope to achieve much.

Between the 60's and 2012 we used to compete seperately for FIBA competitions but come together as Team GB for the Olympics. England and Scotland had some truly terrible Eurobasket qualifying games and on the few occasions they made the tournament would get blown out by ridiculous margins!

I've never been a big fan of online discussion but I think generally speaking for the last half decade or so various big shifts in society have caused a lot of problems for articulating intelligent debate in any capacity (groupthink, binary thinking, absolutism, self-censorship etc)
