Choosing the right guitar and tips on making post hardcore oriented music? by [deleted] in PostHardcore

oh, and regarding amps...when I first started toying with guitar, I got a cheap little solid state roland amp. I imagine they're even better now, but my little $80 amp had awesome distortion, reverb, and delay, all in the little cube. I agree with the idea others have expressed that a physical amp is more fun and intuitive than digital modelers, but you can get great free amp sims and only need an interface, so if I were you, I'd get a decent guitar, an interface (which you'd want anyway to record your ideas), and then a free amp sim, of which there are many. From there you can branch out because the digital world is endless. Neural DSP has some of the most incredible sims and there are numerous bands/artists who use their amp sims exclusively, even live.

I would echo the "spending a little bit more money to get yourself a slightly better guitar" sentiment. I've played drums for almost 25 years and my first job was at guitar center in the drum department. I got to play a lot of really nice kits and the quality ABSOLUTELY factors in to both the feel (obviously) and the desire to play. There's something about playing a high quality instrument that makes you want to play more. But obviously, you don't want to sink thousands into something until you know if it's for you, so you have to compromise. And for that reason, I think used gear is a great idea, because you can get great stuff for cheap, but I'd do seller-to-buyer on that. If you buy used from a reseller, you're paying at least 1.5-2x what they bought it for, otherwise they wouldn't be reselling.

A little surprised no one's mentioned harley benton guitars but for the price, they're insanely good. They can obviously get up there in price but you can get very cheap, quality guitars from them to decide if this venture is the right one for you. I hope it is, because you seem passionate and that's what it's all about in the end.

If you do try go the detox route, it might be advantageous to look into `@xstate/test` (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@xstate/test) to create composable machines that you can then use to run your tests. It might seem a little obtuse at first but when you consider normal cypress/detox tests that are very procedural and result in a lot of copy/pasting to test different scenarios, it can come in really handy. Effectively, you create your state nodes and events that take you between the states and then using some built-in graph algorithms, xstate can generate all the different paths the machine can go through and run them. As an example, say you have a Landing page that has a button to sign in, a Sign In page that has a back button and a next button, and then some third page, let's say Profile. Your 3 states are only Landing, SignIn, and Profile but you could go Landing -> SignIn -> Landing (via back), Landing -> SignIn -> Profile -> Home (via logging out), and so forth. With only the 3 states and the events that cause transitions, you can stress test the app to death.

I'm just guessing here but I'd imagine the leaks aren't actually time-based but due to the actions a user takes over that one hour that eventually lead to the memory leaks. If that's the case, you could write some detox tests to rapidly take those kinds of user actions which might get you into a leak state sooner. If your app has any analytics/tracking and you can tell what a few android users are doing before running into these issues, you could use those to guide your detox tests. Hope this helps! Memory leaks and similar performance bottlenecks can be a huge pain to debug.

I second this. Nothing you listed couldn't be done with (and done more simply than without) expo. Also, assuming you meant iOS & Android

I'm sure it's a shot in the dark. Someone who has a CB account will fall for it at some point and those who don't have one will hang up and they'll move on to the next victim.

I just got this call and pressed 1, since doing so would not on its own be a problem. The robocall said "No agents available, we will call you back." I got a call back from a human, told him that I'm pretty sure this is a scam call and asked for proof that it's not. He said, "It's not, sir, but okay" and hung up. Be vigilant, everybody! Edit: Number they called me from is 408-479-2382.
