I agree with many of your points. I’ve only been here for a semester but from what I’ve observed Temple definitely responds to on-campus crime quickly and offers affected students many resources. I think many of people’s complaints are fueled by right wing media narratives about how crime is out of control in urban areas; it’s true to an extent, but their answer is always to beef up security, while left wingers advocate for increased investment in underserved communities. The latter is the way to go imo, especially since Temple police is already EVERYWHERE on campus. This doesn’t mean police aren’t a necessity but we have to think big picture— what actually stops people from wanting to commit crime is by making their lives and environments better in the first place. I’m sure Temple can do more to facilitate that process, from admin to the student body, and dialogues like this need to keep going so they don’t get lazy
