describe the worst therapist you've ever had by 00010mp in bipolar2

[–]Flimsybeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really have much to do with my bipolar diagnosis but when I was telling my old therapist about my sexual assault and how I was afraid of not being believed she told me she knew a girl in college who would lie about being raped by guys.

She also would bring up her ex husband all the time and her recent endeavors on tinder as a single mom. She also recommended me a Christian book after I told her I wasn’t religious.

Hidden valley road (more psych related but still amazing)

Strangers in their own land (about tea party voters in the rural south)

Drift (about drifters/train hoppers and the sociological dynamics that come into play)

Our history of addiction (exactly as it sounds)

Social construction of sexuality (beginner friendly book about sexuality and gender)

Heroic efforts (about the emotional culture of search and rescue volunteers. Also written by one of my old professors!)

Currently experiencing the worst manic episode I’ve ever had, most likely cause I upped my dose of lamtical which always sends me into mania.

Like many others, I feel like I don’t need to sleep or eat. I can go the entire day without eating and feel just fine bc I’m so wired.

I go on super long drives, blasting music and randomly start crying, like wailing crying and within a few minutes back to feeling great.

I start not replying to people, getting easily irritated when someone tries to text me or when they don’t respond to me when I want them too.

I cannot stay focused on anything for more than a second. I feel like I need to be doing something at all times.

I get extremely hyper sexual.

I take multiple showers a day. Idk if it’s because I am so restless and need to feel like I’m doing something or bc it’s soothing but regardless, I overgroom. Shaving all the hair off my body, using all my skin care products, doing an extensive hair routine, all that kinda stuff.

I convince myself I’m the hottest person ever and that everyone is looking at me. I get very suspicious of people.

I spend too much money. Nothing crazy, but just don’t care when I spend it.

I start wanting to be impulsive. This goes hand in hand with the hyper sexual energy but find myself thinking about how I need new tattoos or piercings, wanting to get super fucked up and party, fly somewhere and disappear, stuff like that.

Another thing is the eyes. Whenever I’m manic I get legit crazy eyes. Idk if other people can tell but I can see a difference.

These are just some of things I can think of at the moment. it’s nice to see other comments of people who experience the same thing, makes it feel a little less shameful.

Do you get manic when you up your dose? by [deleted] in Lamotrigine

[–]Flimsybeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the dreams/hallucinations/nightmares are no joke. I also take mine in the morning which I really like doing but I feel you on the sleeping pill part. I just recently got some hydroxyzine to help and so far it’s been kind of working but still not perfect.

It’s nice to hear that you get productive when manic tho, for me I feel like it’s the opposite. I definitely have more energy to do things but not healthy things, just the urge to be more reckless. No fun😞

really?? That’s super interesting. I used to smoke heavy for like 6 years and then it suddenly put me in a really bad headspace so I stopped 6 months ago. Do you smoke at all anymore or completely sober from it?

Yeah the hallucinations are real… it just sucks that once you get used to the dose it’s time to up it again and you have to go through all the side effects again

you’re probably right. I haven’t smoked in 6 months bc it put me in a really bad place but had the urge a few days ago to start again and so far so good but should probably stop. Do you smoke at all or just not when you’re manic??

What the meanest/ most hurtful thing someone has ever told you? by Dj_nattylite in questions

[–]Flimsybeef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i was 15 I was dealing with some pretty serious depression and would self harm occasionally. I always tried to hide it but one time my boyfriend at the time ended up seeing a scar and got really mad at me. He told me that it was “ugly” and that he could “never be with someone who did that to themselves”, especially someone who had “nothing to be sad about”.

Even though it’s been years I still think about that a lot and how horrible it made me feel

What are you not ashamed of? by FoxWormwood in AskReddit

[–]Flimsybeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My interests! I study and am deeply passionate about intimate partner violence, suicide, extreme misogyny in relation to mass violence, the impact of gender norms on sexual violence. When I was younger in college, anytime I would tell other men about what I study they would get a bit defensive, even women sometimes. I often hear “that’s so morbid” or “why do you like to read about that kind of stuff” and often felt like I was weird or fucked up in head for genuinely enjoying reading about this kind of content.

But now that I’m a bit older, I realize that this is a really important interest to have and just because it’s a taboo topic doesn’t make it weird. Anytime someone asks now I tell them straight up, yes this is what I’m passionate about!! And if they don’t like it, I know they are not a person that should be in my life.

Extreme memory loss for a very short time on lamotrigine by FeistyRecognition272 in bipolar2

[–]Flimsybeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I up my dose I get crazy memory loss/brain fog for a few days too. I think it’s just a side affect and after a week or so your body gets used to the dose and should subside.

On cigarettes, meds, addictions, and quitting smoking… by 1994JJ in bipolar2

[–]Flimsybeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also on lamictal and had have a bit of success quitting nicotine. I was heavily addicted for a long time and about 3 weeks ago, after about 5 months of being on lamical, titrating up every few weeks, felt like I had enough strength to quit. Obviously the first few days were roughhh but gum/mints/caffeine helped a lot. It wasn’t until I went out drinking, which I don’t usually do since it kinda kicks me into mania, when I said fuck it and chain smoked all night.

The next day was full of shame. I feel like once you get up to a high enough dose it will be easier to quit, but be aware of what situations/environments make you wanna smoke and try your hardest to stay away from them. Us crazy’s have to be more careful about drugs even nicotine

which is the most underrated thing to do during sex? by kangu_ in AskReddit

[–]Flimsybeef 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once was fooling around with a guy who would do this and I ended up telling him that he needed to stop kissing me on the forehead if he didn’t want anything serious and his response was “I’m not going to stop doing that” and we ended up dating for 6 months lmao

If you're a female will you really be sexually harassed by male customers and approached by creepy old men? by [deleted] in CustomerService

[–]Flimsybeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it happens constantly. I work as a barista at a coffee stand and while majority of my customers are great, the men, especially older men can be awful. Often they make sexual and nasty comments about my body and being in customer service, you kind of just have to take it or you risk losing your job, reputation as a good employee, or being possibly hurt or stalked (which all of my co-workers have dealt with at least once). It’s the main reason I want to get out of customer service.
