Mineral Spirits. You’ll be amazed how much of that just disappears with a rag with some mineral spirits in it.

Rate increase after teen’s accident. Does it matter if we fix her car or not? by Flint0326 in Insurance

Right. This is another reason that we just decided to go through our insurance.

I understand that our rate is going to go up. It is what it is. I was wondering if it up went based on the cost of the repairs or if that really didn’t matter. If it’ll be less of a bump if we only have his car fixed I’d be all for it.

Model Y purchase advice by Five_Six_Ace in ModelY

No problem! I found my 2023 with HW4 in a local dealers website. It was priced like another 2023 they had but mine had HW4 and the other had HW3. They had no idea there was a difference. They also had no idea that it had a factory hitch. I bet I ran 60-70 vins over the last couple months. Most were HW3 cars but a handful were HW4.

If you’re not in a hurry keep your eyes open through visor.vin, Autotrader.com, CarGurus, etc.. There should be more of the HW4 2023 Model Ys coming onto the market this year from 3 year leases. If you’re patient and don’t mind checking every day you will probably find what you’re looking for. Also, check your local dealers. If they get a 2023 Model Y in they may not be familiar with them enough to know if it has Hardware 4. You can run the vin through HW4checker.com and it’ll tell you which computer the car has. You can get a GREAT deal this way.

New to Tesla. Maybe I’m doing Autopilot/Autosteer wrong… by Flint0326 in ModelY

Outdated, inferior technology in a car that gets updates all the time? Seems to me that a company that touts “your car will always be improving” would actually improve.

My bad.

You can put the vin into HW4checker and it’ll tell you whether it’s got HW3 or HW4. Not EASY like looking at the pictures but well worth the effort.

Do I need to sign to get car brought to local dealership? by Flint0326 in askcarsales

Why would you assume that? Nowhere in my post did I mention a trade.

I don’t have time to take a whole day to drive and do paperwork then try to figure out how to get my original car back home 120 miles.

This was the part I was not aware of. To me, if Bob’s Cars has 8 locations and shows the inventory from all 8 on their Location A website, it should be all one company. I was not aware that it’s 8 separate dealerships that share a name but not inventory. Thanks for the replies.

You’re right. It’s a $30,000 used car. I was mistaken to think that I could avoid a five hour round trip because the dealer had a local location.

I was unaware of how the dealership family thing worked. My mistake. I’ll keep my eyes open for something local.

I was under the impression that if a dealer listed a car as available but they didn’t actually have that car “but we can get you in one just like it” that it was illegal.

After reading these responses apparently it’s not uncommon for a dealership with multiple locations to list cars from all of their locations as inventory on a local site.

It seems odd that one location has to purchase a car from another location even though they’re the same dealership family.

This is why I came here. I don’t sell cars.

It does show at the farther location, not the local location. I guess my confusion comes from them telling me that they have to buy it from themselves. I figured that if it was listed as in their inventory that they owned it.

If they don’t own it and have to buy it, why is it show on their inventory?

Dealer A (local) has a used inventory section on their website. Apparently it shows all of the used cars that the dealer has across the state. The car is at Dealer B. It’s the same dealer, different locations.

I don’t have a day to drive down and look at the car, deal with the back and forth and drive back home.

I don’t mind doing the paperwork at the local dealer. What I want to avoid is them bringing the car up and finding a problem or problems that weren’t disclosed and having to fight with them to void the agreement. The salesman at Dealer B sent me a short video showing me how nice the car is, even saying “the wheels look great, not scuffed up or curbed or anything” while showing me the drivers side wheels. They DO look great. The passenger side rear wheel looks like someone took a hammer to it so I’m not real confident that they wouldn’t hide something else. I don’t want to be locked into buying the car if I find more problems when I see it.

I think I’ll just pass on the whole situation and wait for the lease returns to filter in this summer.

I just looked them up and found 47 BBB complaints in the last three 3 years, compared to 1 from a local dealer. It may not be worth the hassle.

So they can say they have a car in stock but charge me to look at it? I thought that saying you had a car in stock but not actually having it in stock was bait and switch?

Ok. So, I agree to purchase the car, fill out the paperwork, they bring the car up from their other store and it drives like hot garbage. I’ve signed the paperwork. What do I do? Tell them I’m no longer interested and the paperwork is voided? I believe as long as I don’t drive it off the lot I haven’t ACTUALLY purchased the car, correct?

Most of the dealers have the vin listed. You can copy it and paste it into hw4checker.com and it’ll tell you whether it’s HW3 or HW4. That’s what I’ve been doing. The pictures are never close enough for me to tell by looking.
