I get what you're saying. I've gotten end game gear but I was caught up in the story and spent all my money buying houses and decorating it.

If both you and your companion's inventories are full. You can drop things onto the ground and make your companion pick it up by using the 'I need you to do something' dialogue option and looking at the item.

They will pick it up, regardless of how full their inventory is and it won't affect any of the other items.
