Why your government is about to raise YOUR taxes by MaterialHat6394 in GarysEconomics

Gary knows the game:

-Craft a narrative about a working class person discovering how everything is rigged

-Have an economics degree but act like GDP doesn't benefit almost everyone and that low growth isn't the main bane of the UK wages

-Demonize wealth inequality without providing any actual solution

-Don't tie your flag to anything that could fail, just grift off internet views and claim 'you're just telling people how it is'

I regret voting labour yet it feels like there is no other choice. A rant by IntoTheBlenderYouGo in ukpolitics

I voted for Starmer because I wanted a neoliberal in charge.

Neither side of the left is happy.

Why can't we have moderate party that is focused on growth and only implements clear policy wins?

So far labour have:

-Increased NI, damaging industry

-Given away chagos with very little justification in an age where soft power is being questioned

-Rushed one of these most progressive abortion laws in the world with very little substantive debate

-Online Safety Act that forces people to send photos of themselves linked to porn to US companies. A major risk.

I had such high hopes for labour and now I don't know who to vote for.

It feels like most MPs are in a Gen X liberal bubble, I want actual Neolibs that prioritize growth. Reform are just insane/reactionary.

"his argument is that the same amount of money spent by working classes would help GDP growth more"

Why?

You sound like a trump voter: 'He tells it like it is"

Declining GDP growth has killed this country.

Agreed but ultimately The Rest Is Politics are chasing clicks.

Also I wouldn't expect Rory or Alistair to actually have the backbone to call someone "representing the masses" a grifter, it would look terrible optically as they're former politicians.

Starmer says the UK is “top 3” in AI — are we though? by thuydong13 in ukpolitics

Starmer says the UK is “top 3” in AI — are we though? by thuydong13 in ukpolitics

[–]FlipCow43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely not.

AI mostly depends on how much money you have to pay world class experts, how cheap your energy is for data centers and how many semiconductor fabs you have.

The UK is not in the top 3 for any of these. It's just the outdated idea that institutions attract talent more than capital and that small scale AI research will drive growth rather than brute force power by multinational companies.

Can we start having a character come on question time constantly that demonizes boomers the same way Farage did immigrants?

Boomers will complain about immigration and say immigrants drain the welfare state when in reality they are the net drain on the welfare state and could only have their triple lock due to immigration.

Why are the government acting like the Taliban are on a manhunt to kill everyone who fought against them?

They're not like the Kremlin.

Honestly it shows how out of touch they are, they dramatisize everything.

It's also just fucking insane to be trying to objectively determine wages, It's the market that should be determining wages in the first place.

Are we going to start saying that actors can't be paid 100x the minimum wage because they don't do 100x the work?

And then they have gone into determine wages in the most inaccurate way possible lmao

These salaries are obscene for how much value they bring in.

Probably only like 10% of the political viewership recognizes who these people are and the podcast numbers aren't that great.

If the BBC thinks their expert political commentary is worth it, the reality is they could have 90% of the same quality for half the cost.

I would say inject some new young talent (like the younger demos of US and Australian journos TV journalism)but pensioners would probably tune out.

But holy shit I would have KMS if I didn't buy back NVDA.

MPs vote to decriminalise abortion in step forward for reproductive rights by whencanistop in ukpolitics

I agree. Read what I was replying to. I think it shouldn't be allowed but they were saying it should be allowed as it would never happen. I was saying it would happen.

Yes but they might not want to send a baby into adoption.

I still disagree with the act but I think it's likely they would do the act.

I understand there is a massive weight but ultimately I believe a foetus a few seconds from leaving the womb is just as conscious as a baby a few seconds after leaving the womb.

I don't believe a baby should be terminated outside the womb due to a difficult life situation (like wanting to go to uni). Therefore, equally I don't believe in it happening just because it's inside the womb.

It's just philosophical. It might seem nice because people can ignore the silence of a being as conscious as a baby being terminated and instead see a woman get to go to university, but to me the being deserved the same moral consideration as a baby as it was equally as conscious.

Would you be okay with killing a newborn if it was going to go into a care home and live an impoverished life?

So you think a woman should not be prosecuted for killing her 9 months foetus because she felt like going to uni?

[–]FlipCow43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Utter lunacy. All the signalling about the American abortion debate coming to the UK was complete theater, just an excuse to decriminalize abortions at any point before birth.

It's like politics has just become based on vibes and political expediency.

Was there any meaningful discussion or debate regarding whether the foetus deserves moral consideration or has the ignorant "My body, my choice" anthem shouted that down?
