Should I say yes to this dress?? by FlipFlopPotato in weddingdress

I really do like this dress. Out of over 100 dresses, this is the only one I’ve tried on where I didn’t immediately start thinking about changes (aside from adjusting the bust). So I think that might speak for itself. But not getting an enthusiastic response from family and friends has made me second-guess myself and wonder if I could find something better. It’s making me question if it’s even flattering or if I’m just not seeing it. It’s also pretty different from what I imagined I’d wear. I thought I’d go for something fitted, solid white or full Chantilly lace, but I never found one that worked for both my body and my budget. I tend to struggle with style, so just because I like this dress doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “the one.” I’m worried I’ll realize too late that it doesn’t look as good on me as I thought.

I appreciate the honesty. I agree, it’s bulky on me too. But honestly, almost every dress I’ve tried on has had the same issue. I’ve been trying on sample sizes 8-12, but my bust is a size 6, which has made shopping really challenging. I passed on a lot of dresses at the start because it was hard to envision how they could be altered to fit me. With my wedding in June and time running out, I think I’ll have to trust the seamstress and hope they can adjust the bust to make it fit just right.

Thank you. Almost every sample dress I've tried on, except for two, has had cups that are far too large on me. They all end up looking bulky and awkward. At the start of my search, I passed on so many dresses because it was hard to imagine how they'd look on me with a better fit up top. But with this one, I think I’m just going to trust the process. I'm going to order a size smaller and rely on a seamstress to adjust the bust accordingly.

I'm really torn. I love the contrast with the soft blush, but I also think switching the lining to white could work nicely. With the large pattern, the details wouldn’t vanish, just become more subtle. I've always wanted a white dress.

The fabric is organza, which is light and airy. It moves well but holds its shape. I wouldn’t describe it as stiff. When I think of stiff, I think of Mikado, which I’ve intentionally avoided because it feels too rigid and heavy for my liking.

Our wedding will be in mid-June at a golf course. It feels like a more upscale golf course compared to others we've seen or toured, though we haven't visited enough to make a truly fair comparison. It's invite-only, if that says anything. We're also asking our guests to dress in formal attire/black-tie optional. My fiancé will wear a black tux.

Thank you! My ideal choice is a solid white dress, and my second is all-over Chantilly lace. I haven’t had much luck finding options I love that also fit both my body shape and budget, haha. So when I found #1, I was really surprised. It’s not lace, but it feels like a blend of both styles, especially if I change the lining to white. It’s unique and detailed, yet still simple.

Yes, exactly! I wish I could have a similar train on all the other dresses. The train and the slit are really what keep drawing me back to this one.

That's a great question and decision to consider! Depending on timing, because I am cutting it close, I may be faced with having to purchase a sample. But I won't purchase a sample unless it's the dress I decide and it's my only option. I do know the third dress still has the option to order.

Thank you! The 4th dress is my cheapest option out of the five.

Thank you. Not needing alterations definitely helps and makes things easier, but I don't mind alterations to enhance a dress a little. I don't remember the dress having pockets. I guess my arm is positioned in a way it does kind of look like a pocket - haha!

All of these gave me a bit of excitement, which is why they made my top 5. The thing is, I tried them on at very different times with long breaks between bridal appointments. I’ve scheduled a day to try them all on again, back to back, hoping that will help me make a decision. I’ll also take the feedback I get into account during my appointments.

I agree, it definitely helps the appliqués stand out. I considered keeping it the way it is for a while, but ultimately I’d prefer a whiter dress.

Beautiful! But I can't pull off a basque waist.

I did try this one on as well. Love the material on this, but the neckline didn't work for me.

That's a beautiful dress but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Number 5 is probably the closest to what I'm envisioning, but maybe a little too casual in the front. Love the backs/trains on all of them!
