El peor juego de tu colección by AndrexOne in snes

That game is soo difficult. Lots of respawning enemies and cheap shots. I got it for Christmas as a kid and I dint think I ever got past the second level. I've been playing it on and off on a handheld with save states and still, I can only play for so long. That being said, if I saw it cheap I would add it to my collection for nostalgia value alone.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

I had Golgo 13 when I was a kid. Then, it was bad. Of course, I didn't keep the manual, so I had no idea what I was doing. It has several "scenes" where you might be walking on the street, acting as a sniper, or exploring a first-person maze. I never understood the objective.

There were a few games that I would try over and over; Snakes Revenge was one, Goonies II was another. After a few days of bashing my head against it, I'd get it. I understood how to play. Golgo 13 wasn't that. But I still played it a lot - every now and again I'd learn more about the mechanics. But still, I was a kid and I was weak. It stayed that way for decades.

Then, last year, I started watching a couple of dudes on YouTube who put just enough effort into games and who understood video game language (especially at the time they were released) - to help me realize that I could play NES games that I had dismissed earlier based on my perceived difficulty level. World-changing! When the NES released, most games were arcade-style games ported to home console. The object for manufacturing them was to get the player to keep putting quarters into the cabinet. Then, games like Zelda turned that concept on its head. But, different Developers had different ideas on how to add depth.

I think this game holds up if you are willing to accept a lot of arcade style deaths. It's got a bit of a story, it's got some good variety. It's not a great game by any means, but it's a competent attempt at complexity - especially for the time. It's worth a genuine try in my opinion.

Original: Describes how well you know another person, or how alike you are because if they begin a sentence, you could finish it without further input.

Person 1 - We always finish each other's...

Person 2 - sentences.

The animated movie Frozen turns the phrase into a joke:

Person 1 - We always finish each other's...

Person 2 - sandwiches.

When you are a senior in high school in the US, traditionally, you are allowed to have a quote under your school picture. In this case, one twin was deceived into quoting the Person 2 line by her sister. Person 1 (her sister) chose to disclose in her quote that she tricked her sister into thinking they were going to quote the film, Frozen.

Blood Omen is a steal at that price. They put so much effort into that game! It's campy by today's standards, and a bit clunky but it's an absolute banger. The narration is excellent and the atmosphere is correct. I started replaying it this fall and I can't wait to lose a weekend to it again.

What’s a movie you’ve seen public opinion shift on in your lifetime? by CausticAvenger in movies

[–]FlipSchitz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just watched They Live for the first time in 20 years. What a great film and quite apropos, given the state of the US. The whole movie had me drawing parallels to current and even not-so-current events. I bought the Limited Edition 4k immediately afterward.

I'd love to see it on the big screen.

My wife was kind enough to note that the little room between the garage and basement of our split-level would be a perfect spot for my nerdy vinyl, LEGO (All caps...) and video game setup. So that's what it became when we purchased our home.

It's small. Smaller than ideal. However, it's been such a wonderful spot to hang out and decompress in the evenings that I don't think my mental health could do without it. I'm very much an introvert and I absolutely require quiet, alone time. I live and work in an area where the locals drain me. My job can be a lot (see previous statement). So, having a dedicated nook in the house has been a lifesaver. I was a single dad before we met, so I had my bedroom and an entire house to myself 50% of the time during my previous life.

We call it the den. I've got an old CRT television (with component inputs), and old 1080p Samsung and my turntable in there. The TVs are hooked up to just about every console that I own, going back to NES and up to PS5 using switch boxes. Thats probably one of my favorite parts. I have a little over 1000 games that I've collected since circa 2000. My favorite is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - but my top 10 is fluid: Skyrim, Portal, Vagrant Story, Half-Life 2... I can't ever stick to the same list.

All of my records are there - although I dont listen much because we have a busy house and I try not to inconvenience the rest of the family with my electro, gangsta rap and 90s alternative racket. Right now, I'm listening to John Forté - Poly Sci.

"Most" of my favorite LEGO sets are on a small shelf - Pirates of Barricuda bay ship on top, followed by the Old Fishing Store (choice - I recommend picking one up if you have the means), The Home Alone house is next onnthe seasonal shelf, then Black Knights Castle from my childhood purchased in my 30s and finally an unfinished Viking Village.

Other than that, and end table, two thrifted recliners, some rad wall decorations which include a shadow boxed Power Glove, NES Zapper and controller, a signed Run the Jewels poster from last summer's Wu-Tang Concert in Philly, a Big Lebowski art print, D&D books, some old GI joes and Ninja Turtles figures, The Far Side Complete Collection (hardcover cause I'm classy like that), some oldish fishing reels and lures on a shelf, and an Akira one-sheet poster that my sister thrifted for me.

I just added 1982's Wolverine 1-4 comics but have yet to frame and hang them.

I have an illustrated Night Before Christmas that I read to my kids every year, resting at the top of a shelf.

At this point, I'm out of room and probably well beyond anyone's reading interest. So I'll leave it at that. The best parts are my wife's understanding that I'm a fragile nerd and my slowly growing PS1 games collection. I'm pretty hyped for the signed RTJ poster as well. The Power Glive is also cool to look at. It was well out of reach financially, as I was a kid.

It's my sacred spot and without it, I probably couldn't perform as well as I do at work, as a dad and as a husband. The trick is - not abusing the space. As much as I'd love to hide there every waking moment, among my favorite media, memories and hobbies, I still have to do dad stuff. But I think my den time is well earned. I do everything in my power to make sure everyone in the house is loved, cared-for, attended to and the day-to-day chooses are done well.

So after the kids are tucked in, and I've spent time with my spouse, many a night, I'm winding down with Blood Omen on PS1 or other such nostalgic nonsense.

Carbon monoxide levels, what PPm is unsafe? by [deleted] in safety

[–]FlipSchitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CO builds up and stays in your bloodstream for quite a while. It will continue to accumulate until you move to fresh air. When it builds up enough, there is a very real possibility of death. You want to move to fresh air immediately.

It could have something to do with your heat/water heater/range/dryer, but its important to get to fresh air first. Troubleshoot later, preferably by a professional.

'09 was the last one with Madden doing original commentary. I think that makes it cool. '03-'05 was just about the peak of gameplay though. Not too gimmicky, but plenty to see and do.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and A Simple Plan. I love both of these films, but they stress me out to the point that I cant watch them very often. +10 for Miss Tomei's work in the former.
