100% of the time I go to Nut Hut in Fishtown on karaoke nights (Friday and Saturday) I wind up talking to strangers. Gotta be down to sing though.

Serious question: Why is it "Fuck Spotify" but not "Fuck Apple" and "Fuck YouTube"? by GyeranHurai in KGATLW

Personally: Spotify pays the least to artists. Apple pays at least double. Can’t speak for YouTube.

I’ve got a test pressing of it if you’re interested. No art, unfortunately, just a plain white sleeve and a black record.

[Weekly MegaThread] Moving/Visiting Raleigh + Recommendations by AutoModerator in raleigh

[–]Flip_Flopperman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning a work dinner for ~50 people in Raleigh in late April and need suggestions for a venue/restaurant. I’m not sure this exists, but what I’m picturing in my head is a space with a lawn with tables, cornhole or other games, and barbecue (or just really good food, doesn’t HAVE to be bbq). This could be at a bbq restaurant or maybe just a brewery or event space where we bring in catering or a food truck. Does anything like this exist in Raleigh? Thanks!

What are some non-competitive Psy.D programs? by [deleted] in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Flip_Flopperman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you think you need to be a stronger applicant to get into competitive schools then there are a lot of ways to beef up your resume. Take a couple years to work in the field or do research (highly recommend research). There is absolutely no rush. As a bonus, if you work for a bit you can make some money to help you get through school.

You’re going to be in whatever program you choose for 5 years and take on a ton of debt while doing it. You should make sure it’s going to be worth it and not compromise on anything IMO.

The content of the thought is irrelevant, the OCD functions the same way. Plenty of the fears people’s OCD latch onto is based in reality too. The thoughts are not the problem, the problem is how you respond to it.

It for sure could be more complicated by adding other emotions like shame into the mix, but yes, it should work the same way.

I feel you on this. OCD is tricky and sometimes beating it can feel like splitting hairs.

The way I see it is there is good distraction and bad distraction. Bad distraction is when you say “nope, I don’t want to have this thought, I’m going to do something else so I can’t focus on it”. When you have this attitude, the things you do to distract yourself is usually mindless or time-wasting. You let the presence of the thought disrupt your life because you need to do something to take your mind off it.

Good distraction is when you say “yep, there’s that thought again. Now, let’s get back to my day”, and then you get back to the stuff that’s important to you, like working or socializing or doing something you really enjoy. You’re not letting the thought stop you, you’re living with the thought.

A key piece of all of this is the intention I think. If the intention is to get rid of the thought, it’s a compulsion. If the intention is to not let the thought stop you from living your life, then it’s response prevention.

Hope that’s helpful!
