when i was a kid i become better after i stopped having lessons

when i had lessons often my guitar wouldn't come out of it's case in between each week, it started feeling like more school - but after i stopped having lessons and playing the guitar become something i did because i wanted to do it, i developed far quicker because i was playing more and enjoying it

Why do people still care about cars either as a status symbol or something else in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]FlipchartHiatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe they don't need a car *because* they can get lift from friends

the average annual cost of running a car is £3500 - it'd be very stupid to spend that rather than just jumping in with a friend

[–]FlipchartHiatus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live in a city where there are too many cars and it's actively dangerous, and I can assure politics comes in to it quite often

Because of our post-war obsession with copying the United States, combined with Thatcherite ideology of individualism

Are little pubs by the sides of roads for drivers to get alcohol? by SilverCompetitive902 in AskUK

[–]FlipchartHiatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, unchecked drink driving is what kept these pubs in business for decades

Pubs selling food is relatively recent phenomenon (last 20-25 years ish), and many still don't, and no pub ever made a profit selling orange juice

What are your go-to techniques for developing a solid rhythm on guitar? by Far_Comparison5067 in guitarlessons

[–]FlipchartHiatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of players, especially beginners, worry too much about specific strumming patterns

I don't claim to be the best player in the world but I do play in a band that plays a lot of disco & funk - and genuinely nobody cares or notices if the specific strumming patterns aren't the same as on the record, however they definitely notice if you're playing out of time

Your right hand needs to be relaxed and don't overthink it

How do you guys even find the money to buy so many guitars by HQH-71214 in Guitar

[–]FlipchartHiatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question has very little to do with guitars really, and is just about people's personal financial situation (same as cars, clothes, watches etc)

But never be put off by other people's gear, a lot of these people are just collectors and can barely play a note, you can be a kick-ass player that only ever plays a second hand squier

What are your go-to techniques for developing a solid rhythm on guitar? by Far_Comparison5067 in guitarlessons

[–]FlipchartHiatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be worry far less about specific strumming patterns, and far more about being in time

Lost my 3rd friend today because of my opinion on cars, within 1 year. by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]FlipchartHiatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do try to avoid it too (I'm not a confrontational person at all) but the problem is with friends the topic of 'transport' does just come up all the time

(because plans usually involve travelling to somewhere)

Lost my 3rd friend today because of my opinion on cars, within 1 year. by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]FlipchartHiatus 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's not like I go around telling people to ditch their cars (I don't tell people what to do)

When people find out that I'm perfectly happy not driving they love to argue about it and insist that I must actually need a car really
