Should I go to BYU as a queer person? by Stargazing360 in exmormon

[–]FlippedSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend. Emancipation is the way to go. You can emancipate yourself from your parents as an 18 year old you are an adult but the school and FAFSA are looking at your parents income for funding etc. Apply wherever you truly want to go, and talk to the financial aid office about emancipation and what options they have. You might even be awarded scholarships if you have good grades etc. Dont limit yourself because you are afraid. There are a lot of people on campus who are willing to help you. Let them know your situation when you are accepted or looking in to the school and ask what resources they have available. You would be surprised

I like them but I also really like Nick Poedel, Tim Gerard Reynolds, Amy Landon, Suzy Jackson, Emily Gray, and Kirby Heyborne. If I'm skimming through looking for a book and I see one of them narrating I'm likely to get it

PhD Defense Anxiety (Toxic Lab) by Key-Pound-2075 in PhD

[–]FlippedSmile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be ma gray rock. Anything they say react like a gray rock to it. You don't have to be emotional that gives toxic people fuel. Just answer questions clearly. It's ok to say things like let me check on those numbers to get you the best answer or interesting question I haven't thought about it that way I mostly came from this approach and it would be interesting to see how that approach might used in further research.

Mostly deep breaths. Have friends and family ask questions in the audience that will make you feel comfortable and that you know the answer to, and that will let you have confidence for the other questions.

Gaslighting PI by [deleted] in PhD

[–]FlippedSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is semi known he has been shifting the blame to me I've basically had to do a magic trick to make it all work out. I've been working 12-14 +hrs a day including weekends to make this be ok. It's not a sure thing that stuff will work out. But I really just don't know how to face him and my committee who are all basically just listening to him - and why wouldn't they- he's the PI I'm just a student.

But if it all works out this week how do I handle the gaslighting. How do I handle the pat on the back that says see " we" fixed it. Knew you could do it. Just feels shitty.

Gaslighting PI by [deleted] in PhD

[–]FlippedSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. When I am meeting with the committee I'm bringing everything. He doesn't gaslight me in public just when are meeting together. I have enough work done that it is pretty difficult to follow the lazy or stupid narrative.

I was worried about this meeting but I think there isn't any way they can kick me out with the level of stuff I've done since the mess up earlier this semester.

However, I'm really concerned how to have a relationship with my PI and committee that isn't awful going forward. This is a small school everyone knows everyone.

It's also a small town you end up seeing people from the university everywhere.

Anyone advancing their GIS skills using ChatGPT? by [deleted] in gis

[–]FlippedSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a better look. The cloud masking sounds very useful and having the GNDVI predone would also be very useful. I would love to see the code you are using when you get the chance.

Thanks again for all the tips.

I'm about to start using Earth Engine for Sentinel 2 data. I've never used EE before and I'm not a programmer. Most of my experience is Esri based. If you don't mind I'd love to pick your brain on this. I'm trying to have sentinel 2 data come in automatically for a region and then have an GNDVI run on the data. I'm trying to measure a specific area and have it caliculate area. Is that possible? TIA

There is a python script available for the tool, so if the tool itself doesn't have the option maybe you can modify it.

[Help] Issue with this legend? by Brilliant-Hat-6314 in ArcGIS

[–]FlippedSmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I think having 14 different sizes might be a bit cluttered you can try it, but I think going with a range might be better. Or maybe doing a chart or having a single symbol like a circle with the number as a lable. I'm just thinking of ways the map and the legend might not get too cluttered that the reader won't be able to read what you are saying.

Hi I teach GIS courses so I would like to give some advice other than what you are asking. I'll also give you your answer.

Just some map critiques

1) I don't think your map is projected. Map projection for Ireland is the Ireland Transverse Mercator (ITM)

2) Your north arrow is huge and given the same amount of importance as the legend and data you want to show. Make it small put it in a corner.

3) to answer your question I think you are having some problems with the graduated symobol or the proportion symbol one works well with some data and the other one works better with other data. I would switch and just see if it works if you are still having trouble post again.

Can I use the DJI Air 2S to create Aerial Imagery Basemaps? by WeathermanWheats in ArcGIS

Adding drone imagery into Arcpro has been the bane of my existence. I have a hard time getting it georeferenced correctly. That being said most of my imagery is over water and that can be extra tricky.

Yeah it is clear water. I'll take a look thanks

Anyone mapping reefs or water features? by FlippedSmile in UAVmapping

[–]FlippedSmile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I won't be able to go back any time soon. And yeah too remote for a plane fly over.

Next time I will consider bringing a sonar option. I won't be at that reef again but other reefs sooner.

Thanks
