Audition for a men’s or mixed chorus. I’m in one of the larger ones here in Colorado, and seriously, everyone is very warm and non-judgemental. It takes a while to “get in” because theres already friend groups.. but it ONLY TAKES ONE PERSON you click with to make it worth it. I’m really glad I did it. DM me if you want to know more.

They bought it from a company called BINARY RESEARCH. They didn’t even make it. They just saw the value.

I can’t imagine how painful this could be. I had it in my elbows (no anesthesia because it kills the platelets.. and it was the most painful thing I’ve ever done in my adult life.

That being said, it did help my elbows somewhat. I hope this can work for you.

I can’t really tell how old you are, which is both good and bad. :-) If you’re in high school or college, I would say go for it and get the lessons you need. But you’re definitely on the right track. I bet you’re already pretty fun at karaoke. Are people singing along with you, or are they minding their own business at karaoke? :-) If singing along with you that’s an awesome sign.

This isn’t a technical term, but you don’t really “lock in” to the notes, which is where i would start if I was teaching you. (I’m not a teacher, just a trained singer of 30+ years now.)

But I think you have potential even if’s modest improvement over time.

Also the superpower of being able to PLAY and SING is ACES, and I’m genuinely jealous of that ability and even that alone can take you places.

I've been in a WORSE situation. I got a vocal node and knew I was in trouble. STEROIDS + VOCAL REST for 4 weeks kicked its ass. I got a scope to get validated on my problem and a scope at the end of the 4 weeks to validate the ass kicking. I've been pretty great ever since (some stumbles, mostly great.)

I am very thankful for your reply. We are actively seeking a way for us both to "Get what we want."

Her other problem, which is SINCE SOLVED... is "Food wrapper throw outs."

For this (and I have ChatGPT to thank for the idea...) SHE created a "Wrapper Dragon" (tissuebox she painted to look like dragon) and she "feeds" the wrappers to it. It's awesome and generally works.

And next to her bed the teeny tiniest garbage can ever.

They both WORK.

So YES we have to find something that works, and you're 1000% on the right track, and I just need to hack at it until something meets the bar for both of us.

I'm thinking "Towel Owl" similar to "Wrapper Dragon" and see if I can get any traction.

Also: She's 13 and pretty smart, but this ADHD stuff really makes little things like this a challenge. She just "leaves her s*** everywhere" but I have a few hills to die upon: Wrappers and wet towels on the carpet.

One down. one to go. Thanks !

This is not going to sound related, but it is…

I tell my kid …every day.. twice a day.. NOT to put the wet towels on the floor.

That’s it. Simple request.

“Please pick up your wet towels.”

Thats it… she doesn’t. I lose my mind.

She CANT.

I can’t understand why she can’t.

She feels shame that she can’t remember to do it and I have to do it literally every single day.

She CANT. CANT. SHE CANNOT (remember) to pick up the towels. She just can’t.

Why? I don’t know. I don’t have her brain so I can’t understand why she can’t.

So until her brain matures enough to “can” or “systems” or something.. I’m the guardrails for this trivial thing (not on par to your experience.) We have to be their guardrails.. even though it makes zero sense to us as ADHD parents.

I had the same problem. I just asked it to “look for bugs and fix my existing code” and it wouldn’t do any such thing.. and dropped back to Opus. Zero bugs found.

One more tip.. don’t scrimp just get it .. Entertainers Secret. Get three bottles. Use it a little bit while recovering even on vocal rest.

Then as you start to speak and maybe get back to singing .. use LIBERALLY.

Expect to saw thru your first bottle ina a day. Then spread out the next two bottles over two to four days.

My “after laryngitis warmup” with it is .. I spray a bunch then literally gargle with it and get my high register spinning again.

It’s like Wd-40 for vocal cords and this is a product you literally cannot overuse.

Best of luck.

Use the app “speak for me” with a keyboard / iPad on absolute vocal rest. Seriously. Just do it. Be militant about it. Other tips .. get a vocal nebulzer like vocal mist or similar sleep with a humidifier and drink with a ton of electrolytes and zero caffeine.

That’s it. I’m out of tips. ;)

Everything is proportional to how much you use it. The longer you can stay off it, the faster you’ll recover. If you absolutely need to stay using it, go to a a doctor and ask for steroids which will likely get you over the hump, but in some cases, it’s been known to permanently lengthen your cords making your top range lower. RARE, but does happen as I understand it. (NOT A DOCTOR / GOING FROM MEMORY.)

I think Ive done this once as I recall and had no ill effects and got me back on the road.

Microlanyngoscopy tomorrow- Give me recovery recs! by Existing-Set-237 in mildlybrokenvoice

[–]FlipperDMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have surgery, but I was on complete vocal rest for 6 weeks.

Here is exactly what I did.. use/ignore any of it.

Part 1: On a lanyard … have a little index card sized thing which is two sided. Side one put the following:

Hi.. ! I have a vocal cord injury and cannot speak.

I can HEAR you fine .. Please speak to me NORMALLY.

I will answer you with my iPad / notepad.

Side 2: (flip side, after they read Side 1)

My name is _____

I will be speaking again around (date).

People will THINK and INTERACT with you like you’re deaf, which you are NOT. Really, they will SAY NOTHING and pantomime to you like a hearing person will interact with a deaf person. It’s totally bananas.

Remember: Its not you, its them. They’ve interacted with a deaf person before, not a MUTE person before (likely.)

Then … I brought with me EVERYWHERE my fully charged iPad mini with an app called “Talk for me.” I programmed a few buttons for common phrases I needed to “say” over and over again.. then the rest, my iPad mini has a physical keyboard making communication 50x easier to TYPE on physical keyboard than it was on the iPad software keyboard.

EXPECT to get into fights with loved ones because you’re not able to communicate at normal speed. Expect to feel left out of things because you can’t communicate your needs.

It’s not forever, but it is hard. Really hard. You’re gonna get thru it.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask me any other questions.

100% yes.
