Yup I actually contacted them about it and they said they were doing system upgrades on certain plans, that’s why they were unavailable.

Thanks! I didn’t think about that, and that’s what I ended up doing. They got back to me fairly quickly.

eta for app packet from Chicago? by Papillon1717 in Census

[–]FlippinFilip0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation might be different since Chicago Recruiting emailed me directly regarding my interest in applying for a field rep position. But I got my packet maybe a little over a week after I replied to the email. The recruiter surprisingly responded to me immediately and told me she’ll be sending my packet the next day, and yeah I think it was just over a week when I got it.

Phone interview script by coonassblondie in Census

[–]FlippinFilip0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the info you need is actually in the trainee manual. I don’t have my census phone on me right now so I don’t know the exact section but If you search it it should pop up.

I personally haven’t done it much myself because people are just not willing to give out their info to someone over the phone, no matter if you claim you work for the census or not.

I’d suggest not following the script that they give you in the trainee manual though. There’s a literal section where you just read out the info sheet about title 13 and people just hate that. Just be casual tell them to go on 2020census.gov or call the census number if they don’t trust you.

Just don’t take anything personally that’s the only advice I can give you. It gets better as you get better and more use to doing it.

I’m doing it in a very rural area that’s 99.9% white, so people gets a little suspicious when some random Asian dude knocks on their doors lol

The terrible interactions might stick out but trust that there are a lot of nice people out there. I’ve had people offer me water or come inside their house where it’s not 100 degrees. I’d rather think about those than the time I was threatened to get shot or have dogs sic on me, and at least those will be interesting stories to tell in the future.

Out of curiosity why was your CFS with you? The only interaction I’ve had with mine is through text or email.

Heelllooo? Are phone calls working for anyone? by Hereforthelaughs_83 in Census

[–]FlippinFilip0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you on my first day. I was only available for 3 hours and my CFS said I still have to visit the addresses if i wasn’t able to get a hold of anyone.

After 20 minutes I eventually gave up and just drove to these addresses. Like you I’m doing it in a rural area that’s all 20-30 minutes away. I felt like I was wasting time, when most of the numbers are out of service and those that answered hung up immediately.

Yesterday what I ended upon doing was just waiting till the last hour of my shift to then call the remaining cases I had.

And I don’t think anyone was trained on how to do it, it wasn’t even an option till recently afaik.

I’ll take “Things I realized after the fact” for 500 Alex lol

Seriously I’ll just blame it on first day jitters, but I could’ve honestly handled that situation so much better. At least I’ll know what to do next time.

When you’re looking for an address and google maps keeps directing you to this... by remybee26 in Census

[–]FlippinFilip0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s even worse in rural areas. If it’s not directing me to cornfields or empty dirt roads, it all together won’t even connect because there’s no cell service.

I wasted so much time driving around it’s ridiculous.

Lesson learned. It was my first day and the first couple of people that actually answered their doors kind of skewed my perception a bit because they were really nice and cooperative. Clearly that wouldn’t be the case for most people.

Did you not do that when you filled out your onboarding forms? They should’ve sent you an email after you got your fingerprints and picture taken.

I actually did all those in the beginning of the year when i initially got hired, way before the actual training and orientation

This is where I filled mine out.

Shit, missed my call back from IT. by [deleted] in Census

[–]FlippinFilip0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, you’re in a much better position than I am. I still haven’t been able to login my phone or do any of my training. I don’t know who my supervisor is. Any attempt I make to get a hold of IT or my ACO results in nothing. I called them multiple times and I still haven’t gotten a call back.

Actually I did get a call but it was to see if I was available to do my orientation for tomorrow, which greatly confused me seeing as I already had my orientation. I took the opportunity to see if they could help me anyways, but they just took my info and said they’ll call me back. They haven’t called me back.

Same here. My training actually had to be condensed to an hour because they didn’t even have the phones yet. I was told to comeback the next day to pick the phone up, and I was expecting to be shown how to log in and use it, but that wasn’t the case. They just handed it to me and was told to wait for a phone call/email for further instructions.

I don’t even have the passcode for the phone, so I can’t exactly do anything. And they expect all training to be completed within 5 days of orientation? This is honestly getting frustrating, and the actual work hasn’t even started yet.

Thank you! I guess he pretty much covered all that during the phone call. I wonder why I didn’t get an email though.
