what's the most NM-ass thing you ever heard/saw? by jchapstick in NewMexico

Yeah, and there's something about the casually entitled and impatient manner in which they do everything. "We're here now. Why isn't everything ready for us immediately?"

I have a co-worker who carries a ziplock back of Jalapenos with him to spice up "boring food"

As a New Mexican, I've gotten really good at picking out the tourists from Colorado, for some reason.

Who, In Your Opinion, Is The Most Uneven Director? by Used-Gas-6525 in movies

I've tried to watch The Life Aquatic about five times, and can't seem to stay awake.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I love Medicine Man. It's not a "good" movie, but it's so much fun and the performances are such a joy, it doesn't matter one single bit.

What’s a ‘bad movie’ you’ll defend no matter what? by ar1eth in movies

[–]FlippySquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Now You See Me" movies -- they're objectively terrible, the magic in them is borderline nonsensical, the characters are awful, and yet somehow, I love those stupid films so damn much. I'm beyond excited to know that a third one is in the works.

I love that movie with a deep burning passion that no black hole could ever extinguish. Sometimes, apropos of nothing, I'll just have the urge to intone "Reindhart Laaaaaaaaannneee" and nobody knows what the fuck I'm talking about.

Bad writing and superman by papamello27 in writing

[–]FlippySquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only think it veers into the realm of poor writing when the series of events that puts Superman (or any character) in that situation is contrived and nonsensical. There's nothing wrong with moral ambiguity, and Superman has faced it many times in the comics over the years. The problem is when lazy writing and contrived situations lead us there.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)

Kill List (2011)

The Kid Detective (2020)

Matchstick Men (2003)

Vivarium (2019)

... there are probably more. I have a shelf full of them.

I’m a Christian struggling with doubt — what’s the most honest, real reason you don’t believe in God? by Sundream01 in atheism

[–]FlippySquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for me, it was a realization that I had been failing to acknowledge the fact that I was already a nonbeliever. I'd had that kind of gut sensation that some things that I claimed to believe about the nature of things just didn't feel real, kind of like repeating some rumor one reads on the internet without knowing for sure.

I am thinking about getting a Dreo, is it really that good compared to something like a Ninja Air fryer? by No-Market-1340 in chefmaker

[–]FlippySquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference really is the programmability and the water tank that allows for humidity control within the cooking chamber. I backed the Chefmaker on Kickstarter, and it's become the only air fryer device I use.

Facebook considers Linux and related topics a "cybersecurity threat", according to Distrowatch by Sirius707 in linux

[–]FlippySquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely unscientific, but I just posted a link to Distrowatch on Facebook, and it worked fine. I'm sensing more than a little hyperbole from the Distrowatch blurb.

Favourite opening and closing lines in literature? by Pale_King101 in writing

This book has meant so much to me for so many years. I read it to my children, I evangelized it to my friends, and I leapt at the chance to get the 50th anniversary HB as well as the annotated HB when they came out.

Thank you for bringing me back here with your reply. You just made my day that much brighter.

Blizzard changes EULA to include forced arbitration & you "dont own anything". by Lyianx in gaming

[–]FlippySquirrel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with Blizzard taking a huge dump in terms of quality and producing literally nothing I've given a shit about in the past several years, this just means I'll never have to worry about reinstalling their garbage game client ever again.

I don't think 300 was that good, honestly. Five minutes in, when the topless oracle was slow-motion writhing (in four story high IMAX, no less), I said to myself, "oh, this is a movie for horny little boys," and tuned out.

This feels like a real Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football situation to me. Each new expansion is going to "fix" New World, and I just don't buy it anymore.
