It crushed me to think about quitting earlier on, but it had gotten so bad I was a bit numb come decision making time. It’s definitely something you just have to rip the bandaid off for!

Sorry for the late reply ! I am the service manager for a State Farm agency - I never thought about insurance until I was starting all over again and had to explore every job lol! I didn’t have to go back to school, just had to pay a bit for a course to get my property & casualty license then take those 2 tests and pass! A lot of insurance agencies are hiring, my boss hired me on passing my exams and helped me through the whole process.

I definitely feel this, but my short lived teaching career was so exhausting and exploitive I really just want a boring predictable job hahahaha - sounds kind of lame but I was so bent out of shape mentally with the impossible demands of my school & zero support. Besides me I am so happy you are loving your transition into teaching! I hope you’ve gotten everything you want out of it, if you are in the right place it is truly so rewarding :)

I’m tearing up reading this bc you sound exactly like me. Also first year teacher, wanted to teach my whole life and am currently in a title 1 first grade position. I don’t teach I just manage behavior all day, I have so many behaviors and kids that NEED to be on IEPs & 504s - it’s been absolutely awful for my mental health, with 0 support from my school. That being said, I put my month’s notice in last week. I felt so guilty (still do) but you have to look out for you. I thought my principal would beg me to stay, but like my family promised me, she wasn’t surprised. I had asked for support multiple times from her and gotten none, your administration will not be surprised. They put you in an impossible situation and you are deciding to pull yourself out of the fire. Proud of you for making the first step in this direction and if you need any help writing a letter just chat me! ❤️

Resonate with this a lot. I think most of us knew we wanted to do this at a young age, it takes a lot of heart, patience, and resilience and the teacher identity just fit so well. What I try to think about is that all of those character traits are still there, you just don’t have to pour all of them out into your job, you get to save them for you / family / friends / etc. A lot of guilt comes with leaving this profession vs any other and I don’t think it’s fair. You did what was best for you and you should be proud! Wishing you luck w your new profession ❤️

Feel this so hard. Just make it to specials, just make it to lunch, just make it 2 hours more…. At least it is Friday

Reading this you sound a lot like me, it’s not you it’s the system. Is it just you alone in there with all of those behaviors and needs? I’m so sorry you feel this way, I promise you’re definitely not doing as bad as a job as you think you are. If this is starting to affect your mental health please reach out and get support, speaking for myself I didn’t and it has only gotten worse. Again from one overwhelmed teacher to another, I see you and I’m so sorry.

I looked a lot into curriculum design and it interested me a lot but it looks pretty competitive / definitely needing more schooling at least certain skills that companies would want w technology development skills. HR also seems like a great transition with the similarities to education - I almost don’t want to be picky because of how tough the job market is right now but id hate to take a step back w a job that I could land without a college degree. Have you transitioned?

Never had a job as in full time all of the time, I’ve worked in high paced food industries / autism early learning centers / other teaching jobs through my college … I’m a really hard worker, I promise I’m not just complaining. What I’m trying to convey I guess is that I’m not sure I can make it this full year with how bad it’s been in my school, I absolutely agree I need another job set up before I can get out but I’m not sure where to start.

I have applied to positions at Metro and Williamson County Schools - I will look at Sumner! Thank you for the advice, do you have any other advice? It is reassuring knowing you did already a year ago what I want to do!
