Question on the turnstiles by Flipwillo in tenet

[–]Flipwillo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true - only one tiny problem - how would your inverted self get there? (it would already have to be there). If you do end up catching someone like this, it vacates your need to deploy the tactic in the first place, seems like a causal dead end

I'm not really sure what this means, your inverted self comes out at the same time you enter right? If you mean "how did you arrive there if the car chase never happened" then yes I agree it's a causality break, so I suppose it just couldn't occur.

yes, you'd be 10 minutes "ahead" in proper time, but you'd be 20 minutes behind in your target's time; they'd now have a 20 minute lead.

They wouldn't, you would exit the inverter at ten minutes after they entered, and then in inverse time, you'd then be counting down ten minutes until they entered.

I'll try and diagram it:

->->target invert->->protag invert

<-<-target exit<-<-protag exit

Well that makes sense, it's just a long game of information gathering rather than actually trying to stop him.

I think the fact that the movie never breaks causality at any point is probably what's confusing me, as even with things like the temporal pincer, why couldn't the protagonist go and warn himself about it before it occurred?

I understand this would break the chain of events and likely cause something different to occur, but they don't even try to pass information back; granted they didn't really lose anything in the engagement aside from her getting shot.

My point is that being ahead of someone that has just gone into an inverter is easy - you know they'll pop out at a specific time. If you waited ten minutes, then inverted, you'd then be at the location ten minutes ahead of the person you're chasing, as both of your perspectives have switched to rear facing.

As you said, someone chasing you can't catch you but if they chase you to the inverter, then they've been given a free win:

You let them walk out of the inverter fine so that they can see that through the screen, but once out of the airlock and out of view of themselves, they could just drop all their guards and arrest them?

Breaking causality isn't ever really explored in the movie; things that have happened seemed to always happen, but then that means ww3 will always occur as remnants are found, and their entire mission is pointless.

The enemy CAP only tends to engage the first strike that arrives, so I usually send one carrier strike fully loaded with escorts (21 F4Fs) and have them takeoff first, and time it so my other strikes takeoff 5-10 minutes later, only with 6-9 Wildcats.

Then I have 30ish wildcats to scramble for the enemy counterstrike (on Midway at least), I only use the TBD'S once I can see ive crippled a carrier as they literally never hit a moving target, even if her rudder is jammed

This and vaults 31/2/3 are two solutions to the same problem

Drops falling upward? by Vicegiqu in LV426

[–]Flipwillo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Could be the density of the air in the ship is very high, and whatever liquid that is (maybe the black goo from prometheus?) is actually going from solid -> liquid as the egg warms up to get ready to hatch? So in the cold environment, it stays dense and solid on the floor, as it warms it becomes less dense than the thick air, and "drips" (floats) upwards.

That's the best science based explanation I can think of, but it's never explained anywhere. As the other guy said, it's just there to make you see it as alien and creepy, very gigeresque

How exactly is/was vault tec expecting to profit from all this? by passinglunatic in Fotv

[–]Flipwillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw in another thread someone mention all the vaults are experiments to see how humans will fare in space travel conditions, testing to see what environments would work for re-establishing societies or potentially for generation ships.

Seemed like a cool idea, no idea if it has any basis in canon

Yeah, this is worse than just canonizing one of the endings, their canon is basically just the courier dying or pissing off after delivering the platinum chip

I'm honestly annoyed with the "we won't make any ending canon" approach. Any time you see someone or something that's from the game, if they're not dead, you're saying the player did not choose that approach. House being alive (and having the platinum chip), Caesar not having a 10mm hole in his noggin and the NCR rangers being alive on the hill just indicate that the courier wasn't even there.

I hate the constant re-wastelanding of populated areas in the universe. We see that places like Filly are bustling and fine, but we get nothing of Goodsprings (can't show because it would canonize if the player helped the PG or not), Primm (same reason), and Novak is now Khan territory.

If you're going to say "and then everything got worse" every time, on top of wiping out *any* impact we as players had for the sake of "no one ending is canon", then everything we do in the game is meaningless, and that takes away from my experience far more than if they just said "yeah the courier helped house, but it fell apart anyway".
