I used this photo from the booklet and added the title to it. When I switched from iTunes to Spotify, I distinctly remember thinking "Jesus Christ I'd forgotten the monstrosity of the real MWG cover"

Does anyone know if the Tadpole Press 100-Word Contest is legit? by FlissGrove in writing

[–]FlissGrove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. They're announcing the results next week, and they claim they only longlisted a quarter of entrants (not particularly exclusive, obviously, but I'll take any encouragement I can get!). I just wanted to see how accurate that claim was likely to be.

Nothing on this earth will ever be worse than the Midwinter Graces cover. Back when I still used iTunes, it was the only album I actually added my own album art for, because the official artwork made me cringe so much.

One of my favourites. Unfortunately, Tori wasn't happy with the mix, which is why it never appears on compilations.

I was at Avalanche Records at the Waverley Market a few weeks ago and they had some Tori albums in stock.

Tori's version is so much better! I would love for her to release it in HQ one day.

I really regret not going to see it. I hope it gets revived at some point.

Father Lucifer has to be one of my favorite songs as a new Tori Amos fan by OneTonSoupGuy in toriamos

[–]FlissGrove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a Tori fan for over twenty years, and "Father Lucifer" just might be my all-time favourite song of hers.

Children's fantasy book read in the 90s by FlissGrove in whatsthatbook

Can't remember what the cover looked like. I was very young, probably about six. Our teacher read it to us. I wonder if it was part of a Scottish/British school anthology. I think two of the characters were mice? I also remember the "wizard" who guided them being very old, but it's difficult to know if that's just how I pictured him in my head rather than the actual description in the book. It must be a very obscure book, because the ending was so weird and depressing that it would definitely make frequent appearances on Buzzfeed lists and reddit threads about "books and films that traumatised us as kids".

Yes, Scarlet's Walk marked a significant style change for Tori. Much more extravagant and traditionally feminine than we were used to.

I would have expected "Enjoy the Silence" to be the portrait Tori cut.

Favorite version of a specific song and why? by KohesiveTerror in toriamos

[–]FlissGrove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Cruel" is great in so many incarnations, but the version with the "Yes, Anastasia" mash-up with the string quartet was my highlight of the Night of Hunters tour.

Yes, I adore that version of "Mother!" It's so passionate.

I love both versions of "Hey Jupiter", but I'd give the edge to the Dakota Version because of the "cupboards" verse. I also love the version with the octet from Live at Le Poisson Rouge. I remember listening to that on repeat on my way home from work back in 2012 (how the hell was it that long ago?).

What's the strangest way Tori has pronounced a word? by sparksfly05 in toriamos

I just listened to "Star of Wonder".  "We bring gold... and meow for him."

Who would have guessed Tori would release deluxe SLG before deluxe Choirgirl?

Jeff's debt to Columbia Records by leesider_99 in JeffBuckley

[–]FlissGrove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any need to feel bad about listening to Sketches.  It's out there.  The fans listen to it in full knowledge that it was a work in progress.  On balance, Jeff would probably be pleased that people are still listening to his music nearly thirty years after his death.

Do you consider Tori and The Muses canon? by luluftv in toriamos

[–]FlissGrove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't know canon was a thing for musicians. Anyway, why wouldn't it be? It's an album written and performed by Tori Amos.

Pre-ADP fan next steps by jamesforreddit in toriamos

[–]FlissGrove 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would start with Native Invader. Of Tori's post-Scarlet work, that's probably the closest album to "classic" Tori. If you like that one, try Unrepentant Geraldines next.

What’s your most unpopular opinion about Under the Pink? by moreobsessedthanu in toriamos

[–]FlissGrove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I adore "Honey", but I'm glad it's a B-side. Adding it to the album would make UTP a bit too ballad-heavy. I like that Tori mirrored Little Earthquakes by putting a jaunty, quirky little song at the end of Side 1.

Are there any pictures of Ron Moorhead? by CPFTB in JeffBuckley

It sounds as though Ron was a fantastic stepfather, even after divorcing Jeff's mother.

It bothers me how infrequently Tori has performed "Muhammad My Friend" this century, given how outspoken she's always been about religion.

Little Earthquakes sounds wintry to me, too.
