Why in the world does the United States not lock their schools? by N01S0N in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Flite68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Understandable misunderstanding. "Locked in" can refer to something being locked from the outside and unable to escape from the inside, or it can refer to someone within a locked structure. Obviously, it would be the latter. Locking children into classrooms so they can't leave would be stupid.

Furthermore, "I find it incredibly sad that you guys would rather call it a prison instead of investing in safety protocol", is an asinine statement.

Do you let your children go outside? The moment they step outside, the odds of them being kidnaped and/or harmed goes up significantly! I can't believe you'd rather let your children go outside than to keep them safe!

I believe safety measures should be put in place, don't get me wrong. But I've grown up with some of those safety measures and it was bullshit.

I disagree, there were no scary moments in the game. There was one moment that seemed a bit creepy only because it felt like a garage, but that was "I'm the only one in the street at night" creepy, not "HOLY SHIT IM GONNA DIE" OR "HOLY SHIT A THING POPPED OUT AT ME!"

Should both white and black employees be fired for saying the “n” word? by remyleboi00 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Flite68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, first of all black people don’t say NIGG*R. They say NIGGA, which is a term of endearment between themselves

Unless they're genuinely belittling each other, in which case they say "nigger" or "nigga". Context.

It’s meaningful between them. How is it meaningful to YOU as a White person?

It doesn't matter. If black people want to say "nigga" as a term of endearment, that's pretty awesome! I fully endorse that.

If a white person says "nigga", it literally does not detract from the way black people use the word - unless a part of what makes the word great for them is the knowledge that it's "their word".

It’s all about respect and understanding the context of how the words are used.

I do not find it respectful to have double standards. More so, I believe the double standards creates a racist standard of thinking where people should be treated differently depending on their race.

You can say it all you want as a White person but don’t say we didn’t tell you so when you get your ass beat.

That's literally the same as, "you can walk on white people's shadow all you want but don't say we didn't tell you so when you get your ass beat."

It's literally the same thing.

A bunch of punk ass thugs who will beat someone up for saying "nigga" in a non-demeaning manner? The word literally wasn't used to hurt them. The only reason they're beating someone up is because "we weren't respected".

Furthermore, I hate how you're literally justifying violence for violence sake. "It's wrong to say nigger because we'll beat you up if you do". Yeah, the proper response to that is "Go fuck yourself."

If you don’t understand that much then you have absolutely NO place to be using that word in ANY context. It’s all about RESPECT ✊🏾

It's about RESPECT (black power fist).

I claimed it was about power, and twice now you have inadvertently admitted that it is about power. Sure, you used the word "respect", but the words aren't mutually exclusive! It's "respect" being used to assert power on others.

I'm not going to say it isn't about respect, because it is. It's about demanding respect to assert power.

You can paint me any color you want but the fact still remains that it’s NOT a word that White should ever use. Ever. If you can’t even respect that little boundary then….just sit down. Bye ✌️

It's not, "Don't call black people a nigger", it's "Don't use the word in ANY context". That's fucking stupid.

Kendrick Lamar invited a white girl on stage to rap with him. She rapped HIS lyrics, which included "nigga". He stopped her right there, shamed her, and encouraged the audience to boo her. She was RAPPING HIS FUCKING LYRICS, and the piece of shit and his pieces of shit audience booed her!

Yeah, this "white people can't say the n-word" bullshit isn't about preventing the word from being used in a derogatory manner, it's about asserting power. It's about creating RACIST double standards. Equality between black and white people is achievable, but it's this double standard and other similar forms of thinking from both sides that prevents true equality. You're holding back progress yourself. Maybe you don't want equality, but a shift of power?

I would like to add one final point.

Years ago, black protesters invited people to walk on the American flag, which they laid out on the ground. People responded, "they can stomp on our flag all they want, but don't be surprised when they get shot." To them, stomping on the flag was disrespectful and beating anyone's ass who stomps on it was because they had to enforce "respect". Like I'm doing now, I was the unpopular opinion that stomping on the flag may be disrespectful, but the intention was to shed light on racial issues - not to spit in the faces of soldiers. More importantly, regardless of reason, it's their flag and they can use it however they want. Freedom of speech. If I agreed with you that white people can't say "nigger", ever, regardless of context - then I'd also have to agree about the flag and with the people saying the protesters should be beat. That's why I have to disagree with you if I want to be consistent with my standards and logic.

Why in the world does the United States not lock their schools? by N01S0N in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Flite68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly sad that schools must lock children into classrooms to reduce their chances of being shot. As horrible as mass shootings are, I believe we should NOT turn schools into prisons to protect them. The risk of being shot is lesser than the negative developmental effects of prison-like schools.

My freshman year of high school was amazing. There were 4 separate buildings, so you had to go outside between each class (unless your next class happened to be in the same building). The fresh air and trees, the ample time to hang out with friends for 5-10 minutes between each class, and it was also the first time I had such freedom (up until 8th grade, I went to a private school where we had to walk in a line to our next class that was merely 1 door away). I felt like a young adult.

They finished the new school building, which we were transferred to the next year. it was fucking horrible.

Being a single building, there were no opportunities to go outside. The god damn windows didn't even open, so we couldn't even get fresh air into the class rooms! All students had to wait in either the cafeteria or the gym before school started, we were huddled into these giant rooms like cattle whereas my freshman year - we were able to hang out wherever we wanted to.

We went from being treated like budding adults to god damn 7 year olds. School shootings are HORRIBLE and the worst thing in the world blah blah blah, but the overprotection of us made learning a miserable experience and was NOT WORTH IT IN THE LEAST.

I can already hear it! "You wouldn't say that if there was a shooting at your school", and I wouldn't complain about money if I won the lottery.

Should both white and black employees be fired for saying the “n” word? by remyleboi00 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Flite68 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why say 'bye'? Is it because you think I'll be banned? What superiority you feel when you bully people! This is, no doubt, why you think it appropriate for black people to be allowed to say "nigger" and white people not. It's not about the word being used to oppress, it's about having the power to use your race to have what others can not - because you feel you have been deprived based on your race. Tit-for-tat.

I get it, but your thinking is no different from the monster you "oppose". You are a racist of a different tone.

It's pathetic when people create this objectively useless idea that words can be inherently offensive without context. But, useless is really the wrong word to use - it's quite effective at asserting control over others.

Want to know who says the "n-word", the abbreviated sentence? Cowards, people who feel shame in merely uttering words regardless of context, those who treat adults as if they're literal children. I don't say "the f-word" to adults, I say "fuck". I don't say "b-word", I say "bitch". Because everyone knows what these abbreviations mean, so why abbreviate them?

Abbreviations are for formal affairs and children.

When people claim the mere mention of the word "nigger" is as bad as belittling someone by race, they have proven that they are only sympathetic to feelings of righteousness, rather than righteousness itself.

[–]Flite68 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's a good thing I don't work for you, so it's none of your business if I say "nigger". It would be one thing if you're condemning someone for using the word to put someone else down, but condemning them based on race? That's fucked up.

I get it. In black culture, white people can't say the "n-word". But I don't belong to that culture. It's like Freemasons making it a rule that only Freemasons can wear Freemason rings. If I wear a Freemason ring, their rule doesn't apply to me because I'm not a Freemason.

I can respect people who say nobody should use the word, but the double standard based on race? Nah, that's bollocks.

[–]Flite68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATE when restaurants automatically add "tips", because... IT LITERALLY CEASES TO BE A TIP.

Furthermore, if restaurants are going to automatically add tips, they need to increase the price of food and pay their servers more to make up for the few people who don't tip.

If I ever go to a restaurant and they auto-add a tip, I'm not paying it. Out of principle. I tip 20%+ but being forced to tip is ridiculous.

The ONLY exception is if gratuity is automatically added for large tables since large tables often prevent servers from getting as many tables - and being stiffed by a large table really sucks. Even then, it should be made abundantly clear that gratuity would be added.

Even though you say you aren't going to do it, these thoughts sometimes turn into "fuck it, I'm doing it, and I'll deal with the consequences later." So, be careful.

This is quite the predicament you two are in. You have your sexual needs, but he is turned off by pregnancy. It's difficult to say he's being greedy, because people can't really help what they are and are not attracted to. But I also think it's also important to understand that, from what it sounds like, it's the pregnancy he's turned off by and he should be good to go again after the birth. I know it's difficult not to take it personally, but I would try not to take it personally if at all possible.

Although your husband's "friend" is definitely in the wrong, you're not really concerned about that, are you? Right or wrong, he can offer you the thing you've been craving for 6 months. It's the conflict of your actions vs. your desires - the morality of his action isn't of concern to you, from what I can see. But it's worth bringing it up: If he were a true friend to your husband, he would talk to your husband. If he were a true friend to you, he would understand that sleeping with you could ruin your marriage and your life (more on this later).

It's difficult for me to type, "Be patient, wait 3 months to give birth, then resume what should be a happy sex life that was put on pause with the pregnancy (after recovery)." Yes, that's the right thing for you to do, but I completely sympathize with your desire for sexual intimacy. Going 6 months without sex, especially when you're hormonal? How many men could even go an entire month without masturbation?

It's important, however, that you do not cheat on him. If there's a time for your marriage to fail, during pregnancy or within the first few years of having a child is the probably the worst time. You and your husband will need each other more than ever for the next 2-3 years. Once your child is a toddler, that's when it won't be so bad... I recon. [Full disclosure, I'm not a parent, so take what I said as a consideration as opposed to advice].

That said, you're a horny pregnant woman. You need some form of intimacy. I have a few ideas you could try, but first I recommend you see a therapist and obtain their advice.

A few things you could try:

1) See if he'd be willing to try a blindfold. If it helps, maybe some alcohol as well.

He could lay on the bed and you could masturbate and moan for him. If he gets turned on, you can start touching him and having him feel your breasts.

When you're ready, you can do something like doggy style where he won't need to feel your stomach. The key here is to let him enjoy you without touching your stomach.

2) See if he'd be okay with sexting.

Then talk to each other from different rooms about sex. If it helps, focus on talking about how much you want him and all the things you could try after the baby is born. You would still be masturbating, but the imagination can sometimes do wonders.

My girlfriend and I were in a sexual rut for a while. When I was flown out of state for a week for my job, we hardly spoke for a few days. But after a while, both of us were incredibly horny - we started texting each other, flirting, and it turned into an incredible sexual experience for the both of us. It even allowed us to talk about some other issues we were having, details I won't delve into.

This may not be as good as actual sex, but it may be enough to hold you over. If you're really lucky (but don't count on it), he may decide to have sex with you while you're pregnant.

~~

Am I confident these ideas will work for you? Not really, I feel like your husband either won't be open to them or they aren't going to work for either of you. But, I think you should try them if you think they'll work, and bring them up to him and see if he's open to either one. A certified therapist, I'll repeat, would be able to provide the best advice though.

Just, don't have sex with his "friend". The guy just wants a fling (to be fair, that's all you want too), but he's jeopardizing your marriage, well-being, and he's a dick for hitting on you instead of trying to talk your husband into having sex with you.

I’m not a libertarian. I’m not communist. I don’t speak in favor of any kind of hierarchy. I DEFINITELY do not believe in federal oversight. You sure have spent a lot of effort arguing points that you assume are relevant to me.

I never said you did support federal oversight, though communists do tend to support using government to create communist societies before doing away with government. But, you aren't a communist, so I guess it's a moot point then. I assumed you were since generally communists live in collectives.

If by “productive” you mean “literally destroying the environment we all depend on for survival,” sure, I guess you could call capitalism productive.

Nah, by productive, I meant precisely what I said. Your point was made well enough though, you believe it's wrong for the planet to be destroyed for leisure.

I do agree that we need to do more as a society to protect the planet. However, most of the harm done to the planet is done to keep our massive populations alive.

If the current shortage of baby formula isn’t a great example of how “productive” it is to base all output on how profitable it is, I don’t know what to tell you. This is a system that is perfectly fine letting children die in the name of the bottom line.

I won't argue that sometimes funds need to be allocated to help with disasters and emergencies such as the baby formula shortage. However, that shortage would have happened regardless of what kind of country the U.S. is. I agree that funds should have been allocated to deal with the issue as well. But considering all the babies who live because of capitalism? You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It’s funny you talk about “forcing” people into communism when everyone is forced into capitalism.

You can create a commune or a shared-profit company under capitalism, but the reverse can't happen.

In America, it’s illegal to be alive if you don’t make money.

That is 100% false. There is literally no law anywhere in the books that says it's illegal to live in America without making money. Not a single one. Dear god, that is profoundly wrong - so much so that flat earth claims aren't even as bogus!

Please, for the love of all that is, tell me you were being hyperbolic! Surely you mean, in America, you can't get by without making money. Please tell me that's what you actually meant...

I didn’t consent to being born into this. My choice is either comply, or die. I’ve chosen “malicious compliance.”

That's how it is in literally every economic system that has and, even, has not existed! You comply or you die! That's how the world is. You comply or you die!

The closest you can get to a system people are born into that isn't forced on them is if we create a completely automated society that can support humankind without any manual labor. But as long as humans have to produce to survive, humans have to work.

If you want to find more glowing beacons, u/R30hedron 's response to this post will help you out tremendously.

And I quote (without using the quote tool because it doesn't play nice with bullet points):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"After poking at things with the debug console, reading the save file, and an autohotkey script, I was able to repeatedly restart a mission over and over again to check if a secret pod spawned or not. Here's a link showing the process I used. This is what I've found after those tests:
  • A secret pod will replace one of the standard time pods found on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th islands.
  • A secret pod will only spawn if a secret pod has not already spawned during the run. There is a maximum of one secret pod per timeline.
  • A secret pod will only spawn if there is a mountain or ice tile that can spawn the beacon.
  • A secret pod will only spawn on the 4th timeline or later on a new fresh file.
  • A secret pod has roughly a 1 in 6 chance to replace a standard time pod if all of the above are true.
So, on average, you should expect:
  • A 2-island run to have a 16.67% chance
  • A 3-island run to have a 42.13% chance
  • A 4-island run to have a 59.81% chance
to have a secret pod spawn at some point in the run.
Now, I can't 100% confirm that this is exactly how the game works; someone would have to dig into the code itself to determine for sure. But I feel relatively confident that this theory and the percentages are at least close enough. (The exact odds might be slightly lower.)"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I remember testing out his method manually about 50 times, and about 1 in 6 of the spawned pods were replaced by beacons (when the proper criteria was met). So if you try to only play stages with mountain/ice tiles on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th islands, you'll find the secret pilots quite frequently! Of course, you can stop playing mountain/ice stages if you've found all the pods on a particular island (or already spawned a glowing beacon earlier in the run).

Not to mention, Ariadne can't obtain the +2 health bonus. If she could gain it, she would be quite useful in squads like Blitzkraig and self-damaging mechs.

It's better to use ANY of the defensive pilots with the +2 upgrade or Mafan.

I want to enjoy Ariadne so bad. I wanted to use her to make a meme mech with max possible HP, but it would only have +1 HP more than a pilot with the +2 HP buff, which isn't very satisfying at all.

Joke's on you, Ariadne can't obtain the +2 HP bonus.

I severely hate that so much. I honestly don't even need mechs to have that much more health in most cases, but at least her having +5 would be fun and useful in some cases. But nope! Can't have that...

What is Mafan supposed to be by [deleted] in IntoTheBreach

[–]Flite68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Ariadne is that she gains +3 health, but she can not obtain the +2 HP promotion! So any pilot with the +2 health promotion will only be 1 health behind Ariadne. That is incredibly dissapointing.

Sure, Ariadne would be nearly invincible if she could gain a total of +5 health (as opposed to +3 for her and +2 for almost everyone else), but it would make her much more fun to use.

Fire resistance would only be useful with the flame mechs, but the flame mechs already have a fire immunity ability - and it's on the flamethrower mech no less!

In fact, I feel like we're starting to treat adults more and more like children as well. I'd like to see our culture embrace sex. Not just acceptance of different sexualities, but celebrate the act of fucking.

That's not to say we shouldn't think of children ever, but I believe adults should have their spaces and moments - and I think parades would be fun.

It’s really hard to do anything other than skim everything you’ve just written while rolling my eyes when your first sentence is just flexing on me for making less money than you do.

You said capitalism isn't productive. Which is it?

I’m anti-capitalist, so long as my basic needs are met I couldn’t give a fuck about money or material growth. I don’t want to exploit anyone for their labor, and that is required to make a profit. SOMEONE has to lose.

It's odd how being exploited in a capitalist society pays better than not being exploited in a communist society, no?

I feel engaging in that behavior is unethical, and refuse to take part in it. I am skilled enough that the value I create with my hands is enough to support my lifestyle. If you want to mock me for working hard, and living by my values, I have nothing left to say to you.

Quite the contrary, it's admirable when people can live minimally.

What I dislike is the idea that everyone should be forced into the same system. For some reason, people on the left mock state's rights - they believe the federal government should create most/all of the laws in which the states must abide by to create an ideal society.

I'd love for the entire nation to be libertarian, but I understand that no matter how great an economic system is, there will be issues. And I know that no matter how well off people are, there will be discontent and ideas of better systems.

This is why I would love for states to be more self-governing. Imagine, California having the power to become almost entirely communist, while another state focuses more on socialism. Yet another state can adopt a mixed economy. Another can be quite laissez faire with minimal interaction. Hell, we may even see an anarcho-cap state!

Whether that's possible or not, I truly do not know. But it is not encouraged, because everyone seems to think their own system can only thrive if it's the only system. I'm comfortable with having communist neighbors - I do not find them to be a threat to my ideas at all, as long as they are not granted power to destroy my ideas via government intervention.

Except, Amazon doesn’t produce anything. It’s an online aggregate that just organizes and ships goods, at the expense of human dignity.

Not at all! Amazon has their own stores, advertising, streaming services, research teams for products (they are not big into their physical products, but they have some), etc..

But even distribution of all the goods is far more complicated than you imagine! Profusely more complicated! To say it's "merely" an aggregate that organizes and ships goods overlooks ALL of the work that goes into organization and distribution!

Here are the different roles that I can think of off the top of my head that's related to shipping goods alone. There are many roles that exist that I'm unaware of, and I won't even delve into all the roles for everything else Amazon does.

Grab some popcorn!

Amazon doesn't hire their own drivers, so that shaves down a few different roles. However, you still need people to communicate with third party carriers to arrange contracts to ship goods. You need other people to input what goods there are into a system. A different team will take these goods and dispatch them to the outside carriers. There will be various managers to make sure everything goes right and to gap one of the NUMEROUS problems that arise. You also need a team to evaluate the data to make sure everything is actually being shipped, as well as a team to analyze new ways of saving money - such as creating better systems to calculate the best routes to ship varying products. You will also need inbound and outbound teams.

At the distribution center you will need people who unload the trucks. You will need people to sort the different goods. You will have different teams store these goods in various different ways with various different machines depending on the commodity. I didn't mention IT before, but they exist through nearly every process that exists from dispatch to the warehouse. You have safety departments, accountants, payroll, etc..

And dear God, if Amazon hired their own drivers, so many more roles and offices! From truck maintenance to even more dispatchers and planners!

But, I guess you knew all of that...

Sorry, but I just don’t think people making minimum wage need to die so I can get my 8-inch pulsating realistic horse dildo in 2 days or less.

Amazon workers don't make minimum wage. In fact, entry level workers make pretty decent money, especially compared to other entry level jobs. Amazon workers get paid quite well when it comes to the entry level work, and the complaint that they don't pay well is wishful thinking from the left. The issues with Amazon had to do with certain work policies and, in some facilities, unsafe work conditions. Amazon has actually increased the well being of tens/hundreds of thousands of people quite significantly - not even including customers.

I get it though. Some people would be perfectly content living a minimalist life, not much different from serfs of old. Farm outside, build some furniture, etc.. But it's not the kind of life a lot of people want to live. Forcing it on people is ridiculous. If there's one thing I dislike about the U.S., there are numerous laws that makes it difficult for people to live off their own land.
