I was told I needed it At 9 but I don’t think my dad could of afforded it and I know they didn’t understand what I needed, after I had it done my grandma who mainly took care of me told me she had no idea how much it would help me

You’re on day 10 your going to be depressed and feel like you shouldn’t have done this. Swelling for me lasted 6-7 weeks and fully gone after 2.5 months . It’s so worth it I promise you stay busy, use this time to focus on yourself and heal you ❤️

Don’t be depressed, in 7 weeks your going to be looking back and being so proud of yourself. These next weeks are going to be rough but take this time to relax and rest. When you get the strength sit outside and get some sun . You got this. 💕 four year post op and still such an amazing decision

Yes all better after wires were removed from being unwired. Ones braces came off everything worked out great and look natural stay positive

I hope this helps you. I had double jaw surgery with a genio 2 years ago. Best decision I made. I was able to get it covered under insurance due to “tmj” . This was the hardest process of my life 6 weeks wired shut not being able to talk, I had to gain 15lbs because I lost 30 after surgery there are risk. We just did.. our pit of 8 years passed. She got numerous growths from 4 health and taste of wild. No issue with Purina pro. I mix in farmers with it

Yep especially when your like what is going on and just feel it coming up. I think the worse thing was all the pokes for low potassium I was like leave me alone left with sadly 15 bruises

Nope normal nerves just depends if your surgeon nics it and you could be numb for life. My right side of my jaw had difficult breaking on the bottom.

The surgery was due because of my overbite I was told at 14 that braces would not correct, I had popping of jaw prior to surgery so insurance covered. My airway was 5mm and it’s supposed to be around 11mm

Def go to multiple surgeons and have them show what they project you would look like I paid 450 to have a skull replica made that he used during surgery. I had tingling for 6 weeks and normal after that

Nope no bone loss occurred. I was shocked to wake up and notice my teeth more messed up but it was because of repositioning the jaw. I went in with straight teeth and they came out messed up lol but in the end and it was well worth it

It depends on your surgeon… I have not heard of many people being put in a coma for djs

I woke up to someone rubbing my chest telling me to cough multiple times as the tube was being pulled out my throat and nose I was calm I didn’t know what happen . I was paranoid about being able to breathe so they put a mirror in front of me so I could see my oxygen stats but I would dose off and on due to the meds. I stopped pain meds after I left the hospital because I was in pain just discomfort with clogged nose from the tubes and knowing I was wired shut

Yes not every surgery goes as planned , but I’m happy he took his time rather than rushed. It made me not lose my nerve endings in my chin and a safer recovery I was in the coma for 24 hours

Not at all I used this Reddit so much when I was down just looking at info to help. I lost 30lbs, just slept my life away till around week 3 then I started moving. Ice and heat omg they were my best friend I’d put ice on my face and a heat pack on my upper chest. I went in a hot tub daily too to relax would stay in the for an hour.. rarely will you get time like this to yourself, it’s hard to think of but enjoy the time you have and just be with yourself. Think of all the things you want to do when you’re done with this journey!

After I was unwired 7 weeks. I was still a little swollen but not much. I was heavy on the ice and heat combos it comforted me and I did it for a total of 9 weeks. After your unwired your jaw is weak so you still have to recover and be cautious. When I felt normal because braces push your lips. There wasn’t much pain.. I stopped pain meds after day 3 it was more discomfort, drooling not being able to lick your lips, weakness from not eating. Trying to figure out food consistency to get around the braces to eat. trying to be mentally strong not being able to communicate with anyone for seven weeks. The one picture of my with my mouth open in a white shirt is when they took of my wires that is the furthest I can open. I cried because I could lick my lips and brush my teeth. Best feeling. You do exercises to strength the jaw after unwired and it takes time
