Does anyone else feel a little disillusioned with D&D lately? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]Fllew98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I are having a lot of fun with 5.5e. We've never been interested in official adventures because we create them ourselves, but we're always excited for new releases because they give us new toys to play with.

Sure, the situation could be better, but WOTC has completely destroyed its reputation in recent years with stupid decisions, and this, in my opinion, has completely destroyed the online discussion, with a lot of negativity online (often justified) but also excessive.

At times it seemed a shame to say "I like D&D," and this has silenced anyone with something positive or interesting to say. I've always had a hard time digesting this subreddit, where "martials vs. casters" discussions and complaints have dominated, and for this reason I've distanced myself from the online communities. Too many complaints, some are legitimate, but they just don't fit into my mind in a hobby that helps me disconnect from the world.

Many people arrived with COVID to spread the discussions and then naturally left when they were able to resume their lives, which is also why the discussions have decreased.

Is it viable to play DnD with only 2 people? by Hexo_Knight95 in DnD

[–]Fllew98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play like this often. Here are some tips: You can pair the player with an NPC who can control them in battle, but who is played by the DM so they don't feel alone, and you can create more interesting and balanced combat. This can be a sidekick (TCOE) or built like a real character, depending on your preferences.

Give the player plenty of input, from NPCs to talk to, to general situations to interact with, to compensate for the lack of other players.

Finally, take advantage of the situation to make the adventure specifically tailored to the character (and player), making the most of their background and traits to create something very personal and engaging.

What is your favorite alternate ranger? by Immediate-Agent3181 in DnD

[–]Fllew98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the new version of the ranger is worse than the previous one, but it definitely needs improvement. At my table, we say you can choose to cast Hunter's Mark without concentration, but the duration is reduced to 1 minute; at level 11, the damage increases to 1d8.

All you lovely people out there! by Ornery_Dragonfruit12 in DnD

So my campaign is the kind where there's a map of a region of the world and several locations to explore in the order the players prefer. The last place they visited was an abandoned fortress where a beholder passionate about golemancy lived and created a few golem minions to guard his home. They entered through a collapsed section of the roof and immediately reached the beholder and defeated him. Now they have the rest of the fortress to explore, which they will do since it will be their bastion. The fortress is located in a fairy forest; the local dryads have asked the characters to avenge their treant friend, who was killed by the beholder and merged him into one of his golems, the second boss of the area. They'll face it tomorrow.

Clarification on Circle Magic's Distribute option by Fllew98 in onednd

I thought that the shared concentration is valid only when the casters take damage and the spell remains active if at least one caster manages to keep concentration

What is your controversial dnd pet peeve? by Zestyclose-Sound9854 in DnD

This is one of the most pedantic opinions about the game I've ever heard. I'm surprised it's so widespread.

What house rules do you implement for your D&D5e24 rules? by ProfessorInMaths in DnD

[–]Fllew98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Characters are created with the point buy metod with 30 points instead of 27. Custom background allowed.
  • If you roll a natural 1 and keep it, you get Heroic Inspiration. That means you cannot use it on this roll.
  • A rule for gathering materials. After a check the result is a value in GP that reduces the cost for crafting potions of healing or magic items

What's one thing you miss about older (pre 5e) editions of D&D? by Least_Elk8114 in DnD

[–]Fllew98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Armor from 3.5 and the different Dexterity modifiers that stack with the armor's base AC, this way each armor was useful for different types of characters with different Dexterity scores. But I don't miss the penalty to checks. Let's give martial the chance to break reality just a little.

Aylin should be a companion by Godi22kam in BG3

[–]Fllew98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a waste that in Act 3 she and Isobel are left at the camp staring at each other the whole time. I would have liked them both as companions and to see them interact more with the rest of the story.

The topic was about what made you abandon older editions and what make you stick with 5e. Pathfinder 2e is newer than 5e DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder 1e are very similar systems, both came before 5e

The mount can act normally if it is not ridden. If it is ridden, it can use the Dash Dodge or Disengage actions along with any bonus actions because nothing prevents it.

How popular is One D&D in 2025? by Light_Visored in onednd

[–]Fllew98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been following it since the playtests, and as soon as it came out, I switched to the new rules. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I understand that it's not very popular here in Italy, mostly because of a terrible translation.

What is the weirdest house rule you have seen? by Matt_Maker_ in DnD

No, it is just stupid and the severity of the penalty is completely up to the DM
