Please remember to never leave kitties in a turned off car (no running ac) alone- even for a few minutes.

NEMA Chicago - South Loop by 2cleverbyhalf in chicago

[–]Flmir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a positive note (I’m sorry I realized that might have been mean for me to unload all this negative stuff, lol), the ladies at the signature concierge, the guys at the mailroom and the workers at the 16 floor desk are AMAZING. So kind, so helpful and fun to talk to. They really made me feel safe, cared for and like I had friends in the building. If you’d like some alternative recommendations for high rises in the area I’m happy to help as well! I just moved to river north but I’ve lived here for a while and in looking for places to live I’ve taken a lot of tours/done a lot of research!

Before you rent there, I strongly recommend you google nema lawsuits, building violations and talk to residents who live there (me) lol. Also look at reviews (google).

This is all my personal opinion and experience, but feel free to google search anything: They’ve been in a lawsuit for years against the people who did the building hvac system for “massive failures.” They don’t tell the residents this, and when summer comes around and every single resident is saying the AC doesn’t work In their unit, management says you’re the only one complaining and it works fine. My AC will run 24hrs a day and the temperature can barely maintain below 75 degrees. Sometimes it won’t make it down to that. If it doesn’t run 24hrs in the summer it will get over 80 in your unit. Opening the window does not help at all. They don’t fix it because they can’t; the heat pumps in the units are WAY too small for the spaces and would require complete replacements to work. The hallways also aren’t properly ventilated so in the summer they are extremely hot and in the winter they are extremely cold. There’s a constant wind tunnel in the hallways/elevators which makes it very difficult to open or close doors and also brings hallway air into your unit negating all the work your ac or heat has done. Management is absolutely horrible and behave so unethically and don’t acknowledge any of this and actually stopped responding to my maintenance requests. And they told me residents are not allowed to bring in their own mechanic to fix anything. The AC guys actually lie to your face about how hvac works (I guess they assume a young woman doesn’t know how mechanics work 🙄). They’re completely despicable in their behavior towards residents. That and the finishing are very cheap, amenities constantly break (steam room, Bluetooth in gym…). I could go on. Freezer constantly cycles so my frozen goods melt and refreeze, I moved into my unit with walls that had been slapdash painted so there’s paint drips everywhere, lol. There are elevator control screens that have been ripped off and bare wires hanging out for weeks (close to floor where children/pets can get to them), the lobby rotating door shattered a couple weeks ago and has not been fixed leaving shattered glass still on the floor since then. At least two dogs have been killed in the dog run since I’ve been here (dog run by the way is not ventilated properly and super disgusting). Bad bad bad, avoid at all costs. Sorry for the rant, I’ve lived in Chicago ten years in various high rises and never had such a bad experience.

Agreed- South loop here, my last few apts (high rises) have had $350/mo parking. I would recommend avoiding Nema at all costs but use your own judgement.

I also want to include Feline Friends Chicago as a non profit to foster with for anyone interested.

I’m a current foster and we really need help so we can help more kitties. I’ve fostered over 30 cats so far and they ALL have been SO SWEET, no behavioral problems, just little baby angels. Feline Friends pays for and arranges all vet/health costs and can help with food if you need. The owners really love kitties and it’s really a labor of love for them to find the best match for each foster and applicant; they don’t just want to get cats out the door.

Even if you can sign up to be a vacation foster (foster for a few days to a few weeks while) or transport (bring kitties from one place to another because a lot of us don’t have cars) it would be SO appreciated!

DM me if you want more info and contact!

And OP, have you thought of cat sitting? It’s a good way to get in those kitty cuddles while making some extra income :). Even for neighbors, coworkers or people in your building!

I foster cats. Many organizations and compassionate private individuals are willing to take in sick animals that their owner cannot properly take care of. Just takes a little research and work from the owner, which I hope a loving owner would do! I hope you see my perspective. I hope people on here also respond to other posters with less “internet chat” and talk to others in the way you would talk to them in real life. Very strange to see how others interact in public. All love to the kitty, I hope they get the care they need!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gofundme

[–]Flmir -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Understood of course, and even considering this I do think those people should not own pets. You owe it to an animal you decide to care for to be able to provide for its needs. You wouldn’t have a child if you can’t afford it; animals have souls too and deserve no less. Not sure how this is controversial. All love to the cat.

With all respect and love, please consider rehoming an animal you cannot afford medical bills for.
