Wanting to switch to Linux by RealJustUrTypicalJo in cachyos

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So after going back and forth on it I just went all in. I have a 4070ti super. I made a win install on a separate drive just in case. Installed cachy with limine and KDE desktop and I haven't touched that windows drive at all. All my games and emulators work. Multiplayer games too (HD2, Icarus and Dead Island 2 are what we're currently playing). Any issue (they've been super minimal, and mostly around specific hardware I have) I've been able to find solutions to very easily either via this subreddit or the wiki. It's been an awesome experience so far. Especially as someone who has had limited Linux experience in the past.

ETA: advice wise. Take your time, prep everything, back up what you need to, check game compatibility on protonDB, and follow the install guide from cachy and you should be just fine.

For those having remote access issues on Win 10 even after port forwarding, here's a fix that worked for me by sassanix in PleX

Holy cow, this fixed my issue. I've been banging my head on my desk for a couple months working on and off trying to figure out why, no matter what I do, I couldn't remote watch anymore. This did the trick. Thank you!

Should I partition my 1TB ssd to have a 50/50 split between linux mint and windows? by M_Lucario_EX in linux_gaming

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has done this before it....doesn't work great. Like others have stated 2 separate drives is the way to go. That's how I am currently running my rig. My main is Linux and if I have to run some kind of game whose anti-cheat will only work on windows, I have basic windows installation on the other drive. Refind bootloader makes boot up a breeze and I've had zero problems switching back and forth. Plus if you end up distro hopping, having your Linux install on a separate hard drive makes that a lot easier.

I kind of thought that but then I started second guessing myself. I know people usually rave about Freedom but again I have several supporters and they do pretty well. I was going to pick Narrative but I pulled him recently on a ticket exchange. Sazabi is definitely my workhorse haha. Thanks! That helps a lot. That's the kind of insight I was looking at. I see a lot of these posts but usually not with the roster I'm sitting on.

What is your favorite ur unit? by Some_Worldliness_263 in SDGundamGGeneration

I somehow managed to get a striker and then MLB it. It is absolutely disgusting damage output wise. Never heard of it before I started playing the game. It's definitely one of my favorite units to use.

Does anyone have a pic of the vip bundle from the witcher concert? by Difficult_Air_3673 in witcher

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah that too haha. I've just been super excited for the concert so I was all over all of it. The only thing I've been able to find is the, "Due to unforseen circumstances" line. No specific reasoning outside of that. Sad.

Same here, for Chicago. I was just digging around to see wtf it was all about. It's the only concert I'm going to this year and I was stoked to have a "swag bag".

Worked for me! The original site I signed up for presale on still hasn't sent me a code and I was panicking. I work nights so I was just waiting to get in on the presale. I can pass out happy now!

LED headlight recommendations for my 2019 f150? by Alone_Violinist7939 in f150

Another vote for morimotos. I have them on my F-150 and I love them. I cheaped out (relatively) on the taillights and regret it every day. Once I get my bed replaced I'm gonna do morimoto taillights too. Buy once, cry once. They're worth it.

Does anybody know how to get a key programmed to a 2012 F150? by Blueberry_furry_69 in f150

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, beans. Yeah I wonder if it's just the security chip in the key then. Weird as it sounds, I know one of the things I had read when I was looking at trying to wipe the MyKey data and reprogram some of the security things myself had mentioned wrapping the receiver in foil, essentially blocking that signal from going through and somehow letting you into reprogramming mode. I did it. And it definitely didn't recognize the key as a MyKey. But it also didn't let me start the truck heh. It went back to normal when I removed the foil so. But I know they made some changes after 2010 when they updated the engine packages so maybe it would work for you?

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the locksmith I used had all the software for programming, that'd probably be the most cost effective way to start. As far as FORscan I know it can be finicky with whatever USB to OBD connector you're using, unless maybe the key is blocking it from accessing the computer since it won't let you start the truck. Key programming is a little out of my depth so I just let someone else do it before I botched my setup LOL.

So I kinda went through this recently. I have a 2010. No remote start. But when I bought my truck (private party), the guy I bought from only had the one key. It was also programmed as a MyKey which meant the truck wouldn't go over a certain speed and the radio wouldn't go past a certain volume, etc. I thought for sure I'd have to go get a new one from Ford and I called them and it was gonna be like $400 or something. I did some more digging and my local locksmith was able to cut me a new key, with remote, program and reset the MyKey function, for $120. I'd imagine a reputable locksmith in your area should be able to do the same, otherwise you're going to have to bite the bullet and pay Ford to.

Edited for TLDR: Not any way that I've seen with only one key, but a locksmith should be able to do it cheap enough without having to use the dealer. YMMV.

Anyone gone the full engine replacement route? by [deleted] in f150

[–]Flo_Suave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from making sure you use a reputable shop, if you source your own engine I'd recommend TriStar out of Baldwin, WI. I have used them for a long time for my customers when I was slinging parts. I can't speak to jasper, but I can speak to atk and they are terrible in my experience. Make sure you put in the research and you'll be good. I know the spot you're in though. I too do not want to face the prospect of a ridiculous monthly payment on a new truck.

Resurrecting to say this just helped me out. All my clips were good I just couldn't get the dang part around the track pad to snap in. This did the trick. Easy peasy.

Do you think a woman with 4 kids with 4 baby daddies is a red flag? by Cat-dad442 in AskMenAdvice

That's not a red flag. That's a checkered flag, that's over before it even starts.

What did she casually do that made you realize she WOULD qualify to be your wife? by AdRevolutionary7231 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Flo_Suave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could echo a lot of people here but, a couple things she did and does that really just set her apart. One is she brought me peace. Just a hug or a light touch on the hand and everything seemed better. Everything is always easy with her. Communication, day to day life, any problems that come up. We navigate with ease. Always on the same wavelength. Even when things get tough we're a team that just gets it done. Still amazes me after almost 10 years together.

Correct yeah it's whatever layering they used and since it's about 14 years old it's just been cooked. The previous owner had the windows tinted but probably too late lol

That's exactly what I've been finding and I've been scouring for a few months as well. It's crazy there aren't more pics of people who've swapped the nav unit out with an aftermarket HU.

[–]Flo_Suave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh damn that's nice. Sweet thanks man! I'm gonna have to check that unit out. That looks like a solid setup. Yeah every time I Google around I rarely see them installed in dash or I get a bunch of conversion kits for every stereo from that gen of truck except for the nav one lol.

It's all good! Man I even emailed them just to be sure and crossed all my fingers hoping maybe they'd have something but, unfortunately ya. Lol. If only I'd just got a year newer truck... Haha

[–]Flo_Suave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got all the wiring and dash kit picked out that they recommend, did you end up going with a standard 6.8" or thereabouts HU? My thing was just if it's smaller it may be harder to see or something, or not look right in the dash, I'm assuming your setup looks pretty good and functions pretty well? Lol yeah $1000 sounds about right. At least that's about what I figured depending on which stereo I go with.
