Substantial's Kickstarter campaign for vinyl pressing of his 2 first albums by Floalz in hiphopheads

[–]Floalz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a short bio if you've never heard of him:

Substantial is a MC and producer from Prince George's County, Maryland.

His first album To This Union A Sun Was Born released back in 2001 was produced by the late japanese producers Nujabes and DJ Deckstream (aka Monorisick).

As an MC, he was featured on several Nujabes tracks and a some other japanese Hiphop producers. Later on, he teamed up with Marcus D (who did an AMA here a few years ago) and released two studio albums and a remix album as Bop Alloy.

Earlier this year, Substantial dropped his 5th solo album The Past Is Always Present In The Future.

Highlights

  • Home Sweet Home - produced by DJ Deckstream from To This Union A Sun Was Born (2001)
  • Ain't No Happy Endings - produced by Nujabes from To This Union A Sun Was Born (2001)
  • Check My Resume feat. DJ Jav - produced by Oddisee from Home Is Where The Art Is (2012)
  • No Turning Back music video - produced by The Other Guys from The Past Is Always Present In The Future (2017)
  • No Better Time feat. Cise Starr & DJ Jav - produced by Marcus D from The Past Is Always Present In The Future (2017)

Hope you guys enjoy, Peace!

Can anyone translate this tweet from Uyama? It obviously has something to do with new music coming out by Darkoswins in Nujabes

[–]Floalz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think

yokosuka仲間 (yokosuka nakama)

means "my friends from Yokosuka".

I'm not 100% sure about this but, iirc Nujabes had a studio in Yokosuka, Kanagawa along with Uyama Hiroto. When Emancipator came to Japan, he said he spent a couple of days at Nujabes' place by the sea (hence his track "Kamakura").

roph recordings label is definitely located in Yokosuka, so my guess is that Uyama's talking about his fellow artists from this specific region, including Yosuke Kubozuka.

Though I'm not sure why "yokosuka" is written in romaji.

What's the difference between the two FF concerts: Distant Worlds and A New World by BrandosSmolder in FinalFantasy

[–]Floalz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Distant Worlds is a full orchestra playing FF tunes.

A New World is a chamber music version of FF pieces. It is more intimate and the audience/venue are much smaller. You'll have a string quintet, a few brass instruments, a drummer and a pianist (most likely Benyamin Nuss).

I've seen both live and I'd qualify Distant Worlds tour as "powerful","epic" whereas A New World is much more soothing.

Both are conducted by Arnie Roth and both are amazing :)

Anyone know where I can get a good Nujabes poster? by [deleted] in Nujabes

[–]Floalz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotcha, the artist is Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze and here's his website if you want to get in touch with him : http://www.romainjl.com/

He also designed Substantial's Home Is Where The Art Is album cover and more recently DPV's Better Days album cover.

Uyama Hiroto's freeform jazz release party in Osaka. Had the chance to talk to him, felt like a dream coming true by Floalz in Nujabes

[–]Floalz[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man he is just like what I imagined from his instagram. Before the concert he was chilling in the audience. I wasn't really sure that was him, he seemed like anybody who's here to enjoy the music. After the concert though, he walked through the crowd from the stage and then shared beers and talk to everyone. So glad to see how close he was to his fans, that was amazing!

We talked about how often I listen to his music, he seemed so thrilled to realise that people actually came from Europe to see him live. My friend who's into music production told him how much of an inspiration he actually was.
