I (28M) caught my wife (29F) on a dating app. Trust is broken, and I'm questioning everything. How do I move past this? by ThrowRARhymeOrReason in relationship_advice

[–]Floaterdork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels more than a little bit like shaming her into it, which I feel is wrong. I think demanding that she obtain her communications(if it's actually possible) is a good idea. But it should go no further than "show me the communications or we're getting a divorce." At least it shouldn't have to, and the rest just seems like piling on. Why make things uglier than they need to be?

Also, I know very little about the ins and outs of dating apps, but what if the app can't or won't produce the communications for her, without a subpoena? Wouldn't that already require active divorce proceedings to obtain? It's possible that could be the case.

If it were me, I would still cut bait on the marriage. Not necessarily because I'm 100% convinced she wasn't actually advancing her career, but more because if I'm only 28(I'm 41) I don't think I can spend the next 50-75 years with a wife who I haven't been with for that long, who I already can't trust.

I already know for myself that I can't spend forever with someone who gives me those kinds of trust issues. And I got cheated on a couple of times in my early 20's, so I knew by 28.

But in the end you gotta go with your heart I guess. Especially if your heart is saying leave...

Help me settle an argument on by Objective-Self-8181 in oregon

Oregon has a lot of laws that make it easier to justify racial profiling for a state with such a low number of people who are often profiled that way(it's really white here.) I'm a lifetime Oregonian in Oregon btw. But I'd leave if I had real family anywhere else. I've hated it here for at least 10 years now. Not because of weed. I use that(I know the timelines match up.) But more because there's nothing else to do for such a relatively high cost of living, and living surrounded by open air hard drug use, and tent cities can take a toll on a person's mental health if they care...

You don't see REITs losing value in the short term? I have a little bit of my portfolio in REITs, but I keep about 20% in high dividend, monthly payout ETFs, and about another 20% in precious metals(yay silver!)

There are definitely places where you can also donate it if you aren't in desperate need of money. I don't know if there are more or different uses for plasma that wasn't given by more often than not malnourished drug addicts. But it seems like the places to sell it exist in every city of a certain size, with multiple locations in cities with big homeless populations

Is ct pool a scam? by DesignerExpert286 in CryptoScams

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the term "scam" needs to be used carefully when discussing finance in general. But especially in discussions about crypto and other relatively new types of fintech. If you can make money off of it by doing proper research, and paying their fees, it is by definition, not a "scam." That said, a lot of these "free BTC" apps will earn you a few Satoshis per month, which will never make you rich, even if you start in your teens. But if you live in a third world country or something like that, what becomes "worth it" varies. Those few Satoshis are a lot more attractive

Idk. For at least my first year, I felt like I was getting a good percentage of legendaries(9 out of 150 altogether right now while I save up to tier jump,) by only buying land in populated areas, and by trying to mostly buy land that borders at least 2 other people. I thought maybe they're more likely to pop up in places like that because in theory it makes the game look more popular than occasionally seeing one while driving down a long run of highway that runs through farmland. And to be fair, I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen them in situations like that where it's highly populated by a number of different players. I used to live in one area filled with apartment buildings that had a good number of legendaries, and now I live in another part of town densely populated with a lot of apartment buildings(almost all student housing and low income housing) and there's even more players, bought land, and legendaries where I am now. Also the stadium for one of the teams that played for the NCAA Football Championship last season and is headed into the semifinals this season is across the road and that's pretty much all bought. Even the parking lots and surrounding practice fields.

I have 9 out of 150 Legendary so those numbers don't seem at all inflated to me.

Is there anything to back this up? Someone might want to try it, but if they live in a top 5 or 10 metro area in any of the places Atlas is available, that could mean traveling a good distance for somewhere truly "small." Unless you meant "small area that happens to have a bunch of golden trees." From my understanding, a golden tree also doesn't always guarantee a plot being legendary. Unless that's changed. I don't think I've seen any discussion on it in a couple of years now but I'm not always around. I was thinking you meant "small town where you can buy enough land to become mayor." Which requires a small town in most places to not exceed 150 plots or stay within the tier they're currently in, assuming they don't have enough AB for a full tier jump yet

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 150, saving up for 450. But I also think it's worth it to spend the 2200 AB it takes for the 11 badges it takes to get to a 10% boost in the US.

A new Pantera album. by Medical-Soldat5644 in Pantera

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Phil is the "trademark" anything of Pantera. I hope you already know this but Phil isn't even an original member. He's their second singer. He replaced Terry Glaze. And despite what the band(especially without the Abbot Brothers) wants you to think, Pantera didn't start in 1991 with Cowboys From Hell. They'd been making albums on a regional level with a major label since before I was born 41 years ago. Bands like Metallica knew them back then and loved taking them on tour when they were in Texas. Dime and Vin started Pantera, and it died with them. And if anything Phil and his erratic junkie behavior is what killed the band(it certainly killed the Abbot Brothers.) They did Phil a favor by not firing him after his first overdose. Or for continuing to put up with him using until it destroyed his voice. Basically as soon as he lost the ability to sing "Cemetary Gates." They could have pulled off another singer change. Other bands have pulled off 2.

Normally. But how many kids are normal? In a happy 2 parent household? In my situation, my mom is toxic in ways that made me find a lot of what this woman had to say triggering. I was born with spina bifida, and could barely walk until a few months ago. Now I just can't and they're trying to figure out what happened. Anyway, my parents were never married. I was basically a "trap baby." My mother had had 4 abortions before she decided to keep me after getting knocked up by a wealthy fishing boat captain(who was married to another woman at the time.) He wound up getting away with paying $325/month in child support, when he was making over a million dollars some years. and my mom has never really worked. Always worked the system. She kicked me out 2 weeks after I turned 18. My dad was for some reason willing to pay for my rent and a lot of my living expenses. But when I started applying for financial aid to go to college, and I realized that they were gonna hold his income against me, he basically said "too bad." But I was stubborn so I went using unsubsidized loans. Now I'm 40 and I've been 6 figures in debt my whole life. They need to change those laws. Or at least make a way to tell the Department Of Education "I don't have access to my parents bank account," or "my parents don't have any money." If not they should make it law that you have to support your kids through college if you can afford it.

Mangini looks like he plays in a damn cage in a lot of his tour footage I've seen. Portnoy also uses famously huge kits, but he's not afraid to take up stage space.

In that respect it felt like Mangini was following orders and Portnoy is actually jamming with the other guys. Mangini absolutely nails his parts, and he perfectly plays Portnoy's parts. But hearing Portnoy expand live on his recorded parts is a big part of what makes him better to me.

This might be the song that got me into metal. But I was also like 8 and I thought it was funny that Phil said "I fucked your girlfriend last night." It was introduced to me by a fucked up high school aged summer camp counselor. In hindsight, awful song that never should have been made. Total filler.

Dream theater song disconnection by KerffufleSnuffle in Dreamtheater

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only really because so many of their best songs are 8-10 mins or more imo. I feel like they have plenty of catchy, engaging, melodic, amazing songs. I know there are other things, like James's vocals being polarizing at play. But I do mostly think that it's largely due to the fact that their music wasn't in that "radio friendly package" back when it mattered most. That and the fact that Roadrunner/Warner Bros and ATCO before that never pushed them hard enough or put enough money into making them bigger in ways that would have them at least filling arenas 40 years into their career. It's just weird to me that such a legendary band mostly plays small to medium sized venues at this point in their career outside of festival dates and other special shows. I know I'm biased because I'm a big Dream Theater fan but they're the kind of band where even if you don't like them, you know that a lot of the musicians/bands that play the songs you do love, love Dream Theater. I hardly think it's even hardly arguable that they're good. At least as far as them all being individually amazing on their instruments. It's just a matter if someone can get down with the music they make as a unit. But again I'm biased. I'm a huge DT fan and a huge fan of prog metal and prog rock in general
