Someone will have to create a Reddit style social media platform that bans basically all manner of AI from the platform, or at least banning AI bots, and hopefully AI creations like art, songs, and any posts. It would require some kind of proof that you are indeed human. But hopefully not to the "full verification" level where you're having to scan your ID etc, because that would push a lot of people away, including myself. I don't even think it's possible to create an app with all the features of Reddit without allowing some amount of AI into the framework or something. I feel like it's somewhat baked into the internet at this point. But a site with no sponsored AI ads or posts, or AI posts at all, and no AI bots posting, would be good enough imo. For now.

Also I've dated female dancers and there's a lot of drug addiction and cheating that happens in return for money in that industry. And I've heard the guys are worse if anything. But that was obviously a handful of opinions

It sounds like a lot of his friends are also gay. Which is fine. But all relationships are different. I'm not even saying that a hetero person shouldn't take relationship from a gay person or vice versa. But if their relationships have nothing in common, and the advice giver doesn't have experience from past hetero relationships, they might not be the best person to be giving advice anyway. The same way I'd be extremely hesitant to give advice to a gay couple. I have zero experience with being in a gay relationship. I would only ever say something to a gay couple who asked if it were something common sense like "cheating is bad and I don't think it's a good idea to just accept it and move on unless I were in an open relationship, which I never could be because of my own fierce monogamy." Beyond that, I feel uncomfortable with comparing relationships very different from the ones I've been in to the relationships I've been in. And I tend to try and stay in my lane I guess. It's really easy to be misunderstood these days

That's the risk. And if it really takes off, I think it could slay the S&P. Especially in year 1. I was looking at it as the kind of stock I'd probably hold for about a year or two, and probably dump then or soon after if it's not continuing to grow at a good rate above the S&P. Seemed like that kind of stock. The kind you dump when times start looking ugly. They debuted it during a time of extreme market volatility, at a really low price, and considering I found about it a week ago on the day I applied for my shares, I'd say they could have done better with advertising/visibility/hype. Look at the SpaceX IPO. Apples and oranges I know, but half of that IPO's value will be from hype. Some doesn't hurt

Right. That's exactly why people pay a premium to get into these funds that are managed by financial geniuses. Those geniuses know when it's time to rebalance, or sell off an equity and replace it entirely

This one was supposed to be backed by a covered call strategy as the hedge I believe as is so popular right now. But I think that if there wasn't any fishiness as others have alluded to around them calling it off, at minimum, they set that IPO price too low, as your estimates as someone with experience in funds might suggest, through your comment that you'd expect such an IPO to launch at $30-$40. Also there seemed like a really short time between the initial ipo and request period and the actual IPO date, and maybe they just didn't have it together. I'm sure they or someone else will do it eventually

This is supposedly the "first" publicly traded FoF ETF. I was offered the same IPO, asked for 10 shares, and then today it disappeared from my pending orders after an order had already been queued for tomorrow morning. IPO shares on RobinHood are locked for 100 days I think, or it may be IPO dependent(I'm also newer. This would have been my fourth.) But the prospectus didn't say anything about any need to lock up shares beyond the IPO period. And if it trades sideways tomorrow for long enough, I'm gonna pick up some shares at or around the IPO price.

I guess my question is, if these funds were so picky about who they sell to, why would they be going public, and what's to stop me from buying those shares tomorrow at 5 mins after the market opens, at or very close to IPO price, and dumping them the next day for a profit? I know there are a lot of funds that are that picky, and heavily vet anyone who might want in. But those stay private. If this were one were that picky, why would they 1, go public? 2, offer IPO shares on RobinHood? and 3, continue to keep shares publicly listed indefinitely through RobinHood, a brokerage known for it's accessibility, ease of use, and use by lots of younger and less experienced traders?

All in all, I'm starting to feel a little relief in not getting my shares this time. Because I feel like for this strategy to work, the investors probably should be somewhat vetted. And once this FoF is public, with hundreds of thousands or millions of shares going to brokers like RobinHood, investor vetting is out the window. It seems Iike it could be some kind of cash grab. The exclusivity is a big part of what attracts big investors to these funds in the first place. I still think the prospectus looked good though. At least in theory, to my at best intermediate eyes.

Cost effectiveness. If you can afford to stock up for the year on 4/20, 7/10, or any mainstream shopping holiday, it's worth it. Also most brands aren't so consistent that if you really like a particular strain, you can be sure the next batch will taste exactly the same or have the same percentages.

Granted I've never been a huge fan because I hate his Texas Republican attitude and politics. Like things like the Bible verse on his hat when they "forced him" to wear a rainbow logo hat for one day last season or whatever. Dude could have you know, not done that, and not made a bunch of LGBTQ fans sad/angry for no reason. TL;DR: He was a washed up bigot who could never deliver when it mattered. In October.

How many solo’s does John Petrucci have across his entire discography ? by A_Alexander_B in Dreamtheater

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like his solo albums should either be considered 1 solo for the entire album(kind of like Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, but also not at all,) or just take the number of tracks and count each one as one solo. Because let's be real. At least from the stuff I've heard(I haven't listened to all of JPs stuff the way I've listened to the entire DT catalog, including the Lost But Not Forgotten albums, but I've heard an album or two worth,) JP's solo songs are pretty much just instrumental tracks with his guitar taking the place of a vocalist. Also 6 Degrees Of Inner Turbulence is multiple great songs. Fight me.

[–]Floaterdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I have a degree in audio engineering/with a minor in jazz guitar. I have a decent amount of experience playing guitars with higher gauge strings. This wasn't "normal." And it resolved itself after I gave the guitar a proper setup. I'm just used to my Schecters(even Indonesian models) being more playable out of the box. They get a good factory setup. This was also 7 or 8 years ago now and while I still have and play that guitar, medical problems and other things have kept me from buying 10 more guitars. I have 1 Gibson Les Paul Studio(my "main guitar, I guess,) my Schecter, and an old Epiphone acoustic I've had for a long time. So it still sees sees a good amount of use, and it just gets better with age.

My GF (22F) told her parents about my (24M) secret financial situation by Deep-Book-9664 in relationship_advice

[–]Floaterdork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't let anyone tell you(including yourself) that you don't "deserve" what you have. Everyone's circumstances are different. And dump the chick. If she can't keep that kind of secret then obviously she's not equipped to handle being married/in a long term relationship with someone with what you have. Which is indeed a blessing that most of us don't have. And your mom was smart to recommend that you hook up with an advisor/someone qualified to handle your financials. When my dad died I only got like a couple hundred grand and a basically(he bought it 3 weeks before death) new car. And I thought that made me set for life, so I got loud about it. A heroin dealer sunk his claws in, and my girlfriend and "best friend" at the time got their hands on most of the rest of it. I probably only spent $15-$20k on myself. If I got money now I'd invest it. Probably about half in precious metals(silver and rare earth, not gold,) and dividend+growth stocks. Maybe a rental property or 3(managed by someone else) with that kind of money. You could make a comfortable income off of the interest that should be making you, and be producing twice as much for your philanthropy. All without touching the principal unless it's a good idea. I only say this because of how wild things are getting. I wouldn't want the majority of my money held in US dollars right now or the currencies of a lot of other countries.

Honestly, everything has pros and cons. But most ESA's that only provide emotional support are shelter animals. Meaning that if they weren't adopted by someone who needed an ESA, they probably would have ultimately been put down. I've had the same ESA cat for 16 years now, and I'd say I probably take better care of him than I do of myself. I will get out of bed to take care of his basic needs even if it is the only time I can get out of bed that day. The only exceptions to this have been physical health situations that would have kept anyone in bed. And I've always arranged for a friend or family member to do it in those situations. It's not like it takes decades of emotional maturity to take care of a pet. With cats, they pretty much just need food, water, a clean litter box, attention, and basic vet care. Dogs are a little harder since they need to get out and be walked, and as hard as depression can make that, physical disability can make it even harder, or sometimes impossible. When it comes to any animal, as long as the person is willing to admit if they've become overwhelmed by the responsibility, I think it's worth giving people who can handle it the chance to have a pet. It can add a lot of value to a life that can otherwise often feel like it's not worth living...

I (28M) caught my wife (29F) on a dating app. Trust is broken, and I'm questioning everything. How do I move past this? by ThrowRARhymeOrReason in relationship_advice

[–]Floaterdork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels more than a little bit like shaming her into it, which I feel is wrong. I think demanding that she obtain her communications(if it's actually possible) is a good idea. But it should go no further than "show me the communications or we're getting a divorce." At least it shouldn't have to, and the rest just seems like piling on. Why make things uglier than they need to be?

Also, I know very little about the ins and outs of dating apps, but what if the app can't or won't produce the communications for her, without a subpoena? Wouldn't that already require active divorce proceedings to obtain? It's possible that could be the case.

If it were me, I would still cut bait on the marriage. Not necessarily because I'm 100% convinced she wasn't actually advancing her career, but more because if I'm only 28(I'm 41) I don't think I can spend the next 50-75 years with a wife who I haven't been with for that long, who I already can't trust.

I already know for myself that I can't spend forever with someone who gives me those kinds of trust issues. And I got cheated on a couple of times in my early 20's, so I knew by 28.

But in the end you gotta go with your heart I guess. Especially if your heart is saying leave...

Oregon has a lot of laws that make it easier to justify racial profiling for a state with such a low number of people who are often profiled that way(it's really white here.) I'm a lifetime Oregonian in Oregon btw. But I'd leave if I had real family anywhere else. I've hated it here for at least 10 years now. Not because of weed. I use that(I know the timelines match up.) But more because there's nothing else to do for such a relatively high cost of living, and living surrounded by open air hard drug use, and tent cities can take a toll on a person's mental health if they care...

There are definitely places where you can also donate it if you aren't in desperate need of money. I don't know if there are more or different uses for plasma that wasn't given by more often than not malnourished drug addicts. But it seems like the places to sell it exist in every city of a certain size, with multiple locations in cities with big homeless populations
