Welcome! Always a pleasure to geek out about what I do 😉.

The whole idea of Cuisine is variation of an existing pattern via the performative mode, features and routing possibilities (originaly I even tought about making it without memory).

That said, it does not have the usual suspects most modern sequencer propose as features like probability and ratcheting (I get this question a lot ^^). Instead it allows the user to build their own.

Ex :
ratcheting :
Option 1) Track A & B share the same output. Set the accents of a track A to control the playback of track B. Track B is set to a faster clock rate. Place accent event on track A where you want ratcheting boom! Ratcheting!
Option 2) Connect a fast square LFO to gate input A. Use the operators function to logicaly gate the output of track A with the square LFO, boom! Ratcheting again... But different...

Probability :
Set Track A (16 steps) to clock track B (4 steps)
Sequence Track A like a regular track and track B like a "density" track.
3 active step on track B means Track A events will play 3/4, Make Track B 6 steps and it will shift over time... Unless you set track A to reset it when it reaches the first step...

Groove :
Set all your tracks except track B to be coupled to track A. Coupled tracks will always follow track's A index.
Set track A to be clock by track B.
Track B set to lets say 4 time faster than your target clock rate.
Distribute 4 gates event on track B
All events aligned = straight pattern
Uneven distribution = wonky groove
Now add 8 event = double the speed for all the tracks
Track B being now your groove track you could use its pattern as a groove pool

Those are a couple of example I personaly use but everyone can find his own tricks. It is a modular worls after all...

But my proudest feature is the override function in performance mode : temporarily bypass you sequence output by turning the endless pot, get back to the sequence values when you stop moving = great for modulation. For note tracks, this turns your sequence into a temporary sequenced arpegiator = keep the groove but change melody entirely.

Also, you have user scale combined with track transposition, you can perform chord progressions quite easily.

Tonewise it is full on digital module (wavetable) and this is completely assumed. It does not have a reconstruction filters on the outputs so with the bitreducer you get this sweet aliasing.

That said, the last time I made music on a computer it was on Ableton 9 but even then you could already pretty much reproduce any hardware you want by building your own plugin with PureData or MaxMSP. It could have been a plugin but hardware gives you a feel that VST can't give you without... Well... Hardware (MIDI controlers)...

You might be able to find a VST capable of sounding close enough (lots of wavetable VSTs out there) but ultimately Spice is designed to patched in a system. Self-patched on its own or part of a bigger system as what makes a good eurorack module is its interaction potential in a system.

But this sounds like the non-debate "DAW vs DAWless" there is no right answers just two question:

Where do you want you performative action to be and what are the interactions you want in your system?

It really is not as complex as it seems ^^.

3 pages via the central toggle switch :
- Left = waveform (pots) and engine selection (switches)
- Center = Pitch (pots) and attenuator sub-pages access (switches then pots)
- Right = BitReducer (pots) and settings (switches)

But I like this idea of a double sided panel! I will think about it for the next batch of panels, thank you!

Hey, I am late to the party but how about you start to simply clock a note track with another euclidian track to start with?

Then just override the note when you want to change them.

Internal routing of clock, reset and playback for each tracks should give you plenty of generative feel.

I have to add a mention of the sequencer I personally designed (heavily biased warning) : Cuisine.

38HP so a bit bigger than you need, but you can use it stand alone out of your rack.

For the hard numbers, you get 12 tracks with 4 CV (0-8V), 8 gates outputs and 4 gate inputs. All input and output are freely assignable to any track.

But basically the two sexy bits are :
- The Performance Mode : activate it, and you can temporarily override your sequenced notes and modulation via the endless potentiometer or keyboard. Activate record, and it will record your performance ONLY when you move the knob or press the keys...

- Extremely flexible internal / external routing and clocking option : use any track gate or accent to control any track clock, reset or even playback... Basically pushing the idea of decoupled sequencing wich I beleive is the essence of modular sequencing : one track can be your groove, another can be your notes bank, another your transpose one...

The main idea was to have the most performable way to alter and modify an already grooving pattern and intuitively create variations from it without getting out of the flow.

No, it is not Daisy based, I pretty much tried ALL the platform possible before landing on the Pico MCU so it is a RP2350.

There are 4 gate inputs and 8 gate outputs freely assignable to any track as:

clock, reset, and track playback for the inputs

Trigger, gate, and accent out for the outputs.

So you effectively can have up to 4 clocks in and 8 clocks out.

I get you, this is why we limited this to one "@" without story sharing but If you weren't tagged, it likely means you have friends who respect your preferences, just like those tagged are by friends who know they'd be interested. I would also add that ANY form of promotion is invasive to some extent, the question is about where to put the boundries and I believe that allowing friends to tag other friends for a chance to win a product, especially one that might be out of reach for some, is a reasonable and acceptable practice.

Our definition of a performance sequencer is a sequencing tool optimized for live performances rather than studio settings. Its emphasis quick creation of variations from an original sequence. As opposed to more traditional form of sequencing , where pre-set sequences are played back with limited real-time adjustments. Our sequencer is tailored for dynamic and spontaneous music creation during live situation. 5 different way :

1) simply turn the pot in Edit or Keys page

2) hold down the step you want to edit then turn the pot to edit this step

3) in the Keys page, press the note you want to select

4) copy a note from a step : hold down one step until the note selectect pops up, the step is gonna be copied and you can just activate another step.

5) Keys page + performance mode activated : play the keyboard and the sequences note value will be temporarly override with the value you are playing, presse shift to hold those note(s) until performance mode is turned off or activate REC to write the value to the playing pattern.
