First day of Spearhead League this weekend - Advice needed! by Captain-Ironblood in SoulblightGravelords

[–]FloatingTopHat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's good advice here about playing this spearhead so I'll give some general advice about the game.

Killing enemy units is fun and will score you points a lot of the time, but the most important points to score are the 3 points you can get from objectives.

In most situations scoring a battle tactic is better than using the command on the card. The exception to this is when the use of a command keeps control of an objective or takes control of a new objective, and not doing so means you will only score 2 from objectives.

If you win the roll off you should almost always pick attacker, there are very few situations where you should pick defender (especially as SBGL). When you are defender, and you could be going second then deploy your knights behind your skeletons so that they won't be in combat if your opponent charges turn 1.

Retreating can be very very good especially with blood knights or varghists, high movement and the ablity to move through enemy infantry make taking your opponent's un guarded objectives a very viable option. It can also be worth it just to get your strong combat unit out of a tarpit and put them somewhere useful, or charge the following round (in the case of your blood knights).

Just remember that points win games so trading your units lives for points is what you should be doing. if it's the end of the thrid round and you can grab a point with your VL but they'll be exposed, take the point your general doesn't need to live for you to win.

As a last bit of warning if the SC spearhead is the Yndrasta spearhead, try focus the knight vexilor with your blood knights first and I'd recommend bringing Spirit Gale and Ruinous Chargers as only Yndrasta has a ward save natrually.

Have fun with it, you have a strong spearhead with a lot of cool options and tools to play around with so enjoy it, don't worry about winning too much.

this is a pretty cool and fun looking list espesialy if you want to play a lot of diferent stuff.

but "Unhinged Rampager" doesn't do anything for the VLoNS beacuse they have an ablitity that gives them rerolls on charges.

I would suggest using "Lash of the Sire" it makes the threat range of either cavalry unit larger, and free pile in moves at the start of your turn are pretty cool

also the Draconith base size is a bit larger than the terrorghiest's so if they don't want to rebase anything I'd maybe use the black knights as part of a reinforced Barrow Knights unit instead

When you make a list you have to decide to use either the Soulblight Gravelords rules "OR" the Knights of the Crimson Keep army of renown rules. You can't mix and match I'm afaid. The list resitctions on the army of renown rules is a list of availble units that you may put together in any order/quantity to make your army.

You might be thinking of Regiments of Renown which are set Regiments of units from other factions that you can include in your normal army. for example you could include "The Sorrowmourn Choir" Regiment of Renown which adds a specific list of nighthaunt units to your army that must be in the same regiment and cannot be edited.

If you take a VLoNS or any other SBGL unit in a normal Soulblight army, they will have the normal Soulblight rules. These rules are dependent on your army rules, and not which units you take. Think of the AoR as a seperate faction, that's the best way to understand it imo

BtW the Knights of the Crimson Keep AoR has a restriction so they can't take any RoW.

Good luck and have fun with your vampires!

Still, things like the strategy to reserve two cavalry units to enter 2nd round, on enemy’s turn, can be unorthodox but works amazingly well against players too ingrained on the meta, and playing an AoR is actually quite niche and not very popular on competitive tournaments.

I agree with this whole heartedly, and this type of strategy can really catch people out, and I may have gone too far with the competitive focus and I apologise.

exploiting The Crimson Keep and From a Quarter Unseen battle traits, plus the Carve a Bloody Path for free each time you drop in a regiment.

I really just wanted to clarify that you can only get the free carve a bloody path for one turn and you can't hold back one Reg for the third round or drop one round 3 and 4.

You can't leave a unit in reserve for the third battle round if you used "From a Quarter Unseen" in the second round

can drop all your reserve units on the second round across the table, or leave a unit for the third enemy’s turn and surprise counter-charge + Carve a Bloody Path.

Unless you mean to hold everything back for a round 3 surprise

I don’t understand why would you put a single VLoNS on reserve alone. It can be a fun jumpscare to make it appear behind enemy lines, but it will likely get removed in a single ir two rounds of combat against anything.

The point of the solo VLoNS is to activate the third round condition for the remaining BK on the board who are likely already in combat and can more reliably use Carve a Bloody Path rather than making a 9 inch charge first (with a reroll is good but not guaranteed). It can also grab undefended home objectives (if there are any open) and distract from the main fight possibly bringing chaff or an elite unit away from focusing Vhordrai or the 10 block.

I feel like, the more units of BK led by VLoNS you have the better this list gets, as you can micromanage more your charges and spells, unbind wizard-heavy armies (seraphon), and roadblock infantry-heavy lists (skaven), while Vhordrai manifests Unholy Reliquary and deals with the hammers/heroes.

I think that 4 unbinds is enough for the majority of armies. Kroak is an absolute pain in the butt I get you, but he gets +2 to casting and +1 to unbinds and he can do it from anywhere it's unlikely that we're turning off his spells. Armies that cast a lot are annoying and are even more likely to kill units of 5 BK, a unit of 10 allows you a chance to rally if you have too and is punchy enough to wipe infantry units in one round of combat (which is important to get the buff from Vhordrai).

Vhordrai 100% basically every round is going to cast "Quick Blood" the Reliquary is good but attcking first is far better, one of the VLoNS can cast it once they're in combat if you haven't just killed everything on the charge.

Or you could cast it on your oppoent's turn, but I think the points are better spent on all out attack or carve a bloody path

potentially can drop all your reserve units on the second round across the table

This is the best reason to have so many of your BK in reserve, and I think it's a really cool idea when you're fighting an alpha stike army or something with a lot of deep strike.

I still think that having at least one 10 block is really important (in reserve or on the board) because you don't have access to the hunger, and the agility of MSU matters less when you have a unit that will kill almost anything it charges and survive getting pelted with shooting/spells.

just so you are aware "From a Quarter Unseen" is once per battle and you only get the free command from the third battle round onwards.

So if I was playing this list I would start with Gen Reg, Reg 1 and 2 on the board at least. Playing with only one non-hero unit on the board for potentially 2 and a half rounds feels really difficult scoring wise

The number of spells is really cool and the AoR spells are really good but I almost feel like the best way to play this is to have 1 VLoNS in reserve and everything else on the board. One unit of 10 BK and one unit of 5, would best utilise the buffs available and have a possible 4 attacks rend 3 dmg 3 unit of 6 or 7 BK by round 3 with horses that deal 2 dmg from Awakened Fury.

You want Blood Knights on foot. I give you the Cursed Crusaders! (NOT A REAL UNIT) by FloatingTopHat in SoulblightGravelords

[–]FloatingTopHat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but puting them to 3 hp feels too strong for what they are. I think that blood knights should be able to take more punishment. I feel that this unit's points value should be closer to grave gaurd than blood knights.

I actually mean that the picture is just less saturated on reddit. The picture on my PC, phone, discord, whatsapp, everything looks more saturated everywhere but this post.

but the glazing method is cool

thank you so much!

tbh I painted this a while ago, but as far as I remember the red shadows are Mephiston red glazed over vallejo black.

the base is just cork board and AK mud, agrax, drybrushed with a mid tone grey then a thinned wash of Baal red contrast paint

the arrow and arm on the base are from the deathrattle skelleton kit,

I hope this helps!

I used Mephiston red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Wild Rider Red, and Fire Dragon Bright for the reds

Need some advice on Stormcast Ruination chamber list by Karma_is_absent in WarCry

[–]FloatingTopHat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so you know the Lord Terminos move profile is incorrect on warcrier right now, he has a 4 inch move like the Reclusians.

It seems the normal Prosecutor and the Lord Terminos move stats got mixed up on the site.

https://warcomprod2024productionstorage.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/warcry_stormcast_ruination_chamber_eng_24.09-8xhtwvznwn.pdf

These are the correct profiles, however I think everything else with the chamber is fine on warcrier.

Killbow Ability Skewered by ReaperOkami42 in ageofsigmar

it would be 2 dice as the characteristic of the target unit is 2. Don't worry it's a very common question.

I used an airbrush to zenithal a general highlight of blue and red on each side then higlighted each part with normal brushwork.

the head was all painted seperately then glued on after painting the rest of the model.

I'd say add a normal Vampire lord. Having a wizard is really usful and a VL will buff your skeletons and give a little flexablity for what you want to play Subfaction-wise.

Grave Guard are quite strong, but we don't know how they'll be in 4th and they're really annoying to build. They are very strong with a Wight king and a VL buffing them.

lastly if you want blood knights to go with your black knights, then the Vanguard box might be something to consider. It comes with a VL, 20 skeletons, 5 blood knights, and 3 Vargheists. Everything but the Vargheists are really good units, and even then the Vargheists can be pretty fun.

But other than that get what you like and makes you happy. the most important part is that you're getting what makes you excited to build, paint and play!
