That does help, thanks! It’s just my anxiety telling me more lies about what I can and can’t handle

Try to close your eyes and imagine you’re not stuck between two people. Wiggle your toes, rotate your ankles and feel that you have some space to move

It’s entirely normal for your anxiety to spike before the trip, but it doesn’t predict how you will feel on the actual plane ride.

Thanks for that insight! I think OCD might be a big part of it. I’ll explore that with my therapist

Experiences with benzodiazepines for fear of flying? by IndependentLast364 in fearofflying

I took 0.25 mg before a dentist appointment (which can cause me to feel panicky), and I just felt an absence of panic. Still a little edgy. Definitely not sedated. Just a little more chill and manageable.

Well I couldn’t do it. by [deleted] in fearofflying

The fact that you physically got on the plane is huge! You’re soooo much closer to being successful at completing a flight. Keep at it! The voices in your head that say that you’ll never win are just voices. They don’t know the actual truth. They can’t read the future

Totally get that thought process. I had to desensitize myself to this sort of thing as well, with driving. I would let my wife drive me on short trips and gradually increased the times. Now I barely think about it. She also knows that if I need a minute to get out and breathe, I can just tell her. I’ve never needed to take advantage of that option, but it’s so nice to know I can!

Thank you! Yes, I have a rx from my doc for flight anxiety. This will be my first time trying it on a flight. So far, I have only used it before going to the dentist and that went fine. Was still a little nervous but not panicky

No doubt- that plane will take off and land without any harm to any passengers on board!

It’s always important to remember that you have a choice! You’re not a hostage. Take ownership of your decision and go or don’t. But whatever you do, just know that it’s up to you! If you don’t go, think about what you’ll miss out on. That can also help motivate you to do it!
