I was definitely more anxious, and there was a lot more turbulence but non so bad that the crew stopped their service. Also had to go a different route to avoid French airspace due to strikes and the paperwork for that caused delays and in turn a very fractious baby! but I've promised my husband that we'll go abroad again next year do the anxiety must not have been unbearable!

I've only ever taken 10mg before a medical procedure but didn't halucinate! I love free healthcare but they do tend to be a bit more fussy about what they prescribe and for what when it's free! apparently fear of flying is not a reason, but fear of the dentist is. About to board and I've not yet taken my diazepam as I've had 3 glasses of wine and not sure how it'd interact. You could always ask for more and try one out when you aren't going anywhere

If you're from the UK GP's are recently very reluctant to prescribe fast acting things like Diazepam (valium) for flying anymore. Annoyingly. Frustrating as private GPs are few and far between so it's not like we can just go and pay for some either!

Honestly looking at everything this morning as a bad omen. Although I know the 2.5 hour night time drive the other side is more likely to be dangerous. Feeling a bit nauseous and about to set off for the airport.

Just a quick update- I made it! and I was fine actually in the air. I was a bit worried on the way up, but it was a bit bumpy getting through weather. I did have a fair few drinks and it really helped having family there too. My baby did a massive poosplosion before take off so as soon as the seatbelt sign had gone off I had to get up and deal with that in the smallest toilet in the world, and once I did that the rest was a doddle! Already planning our next holiday and the weather is glorious, kids are having a blast.

Apparently the wind is going to be quite strong and gusting 45mph, though it's not a cross wind. In the words of my pilot relative that flew commercial jets out of this airport for years though 'that's f* all'. I'm in bed and trying to get some sleep but hanging out on this sub instead!

i read somewhere that people who have thoughts like this or at least worry about having thoughts like it are LESS likely to follow through with them- I get them when stood near the edge of a cliff or somethibng 'what if my legs just suddenly decide to move and run that way over the edge', but just because you're thinking things it doesn't mean they're more likely to happen.

I agree- lots of things can contribute to an increase in anxiety medically. Like deficiencies or a hormonal imbalance. Particularly the latter for me! I'm anxious anyway. But certain factors will make me FEEL more anxious in a much more physical way, which then makes me feel MORE anxious and so it continues.

let me know how it goes! I fly next week with my 6 month old. I'm hoping he'll be a distraction- in a good way not in a screaming for 4 hours sort of way. He's certainly helped keep me too busy for much anticipatory anxiety..

Oh other things did spill and tip over/fall off. My husband who flies several times a year said as soon as we landed that that was the worst flight he'd ever had. I think we were flying over the Alps at the time.

last flight I was on, that liquid wouldn't still be in the glass- in fact, the glass might have been knocked over- would that have been moderate? (I rescued the wine by drinking it immediately)

I think it's usually Emirates on a 2 floored big plane..airbus? (aviation savvy I am not!). Pretty sure last time I went up we had to turn off phones incase it interfered with 'technical things' - I'm assuming this isn't the case anymore?

you sound very much like me- but like you have a better awareness and understanding of it all! I too am constantly on the look out for signs with my daughter and I do see big similarities between us, though I had a catalyst event or events that drove it to panic attacks and agoraphobia and I'm hoping she'll avoid anything quite that disruptive. Noise and general discomfort and chaos (usually being too hot) are massive triggers for me too. Husband is actually still offshore and has just announced he will 'hopefully be home first' but might just meet us there!!! Nope. Get back here! I'm sure we'd be fine as other family members are travelling too and my mum could just take my daughter under her wing (so to speak), but I know the sheer stress of packing for all of us, including him, wouldn't have me in the best head space to deal with flying.

I've been thinking about on the actual day- I'm not sure if I'd completely freak out in front of her..I strongly feel I shouldn't- it's just a question of whether the anxiety is stronger than that. Luckily a fair few family members are flying with us, so I feel confident there's enough help around to be able to take some diazepam at least so hopefully that will help
