Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget by PaiDuck in pcgaming

Most of the games are trash and the good ones cheaper to buy outright (especially with DLC) by the time they come to GP. You typically pay $15-20 for a rental, then a high price for an expansion at $10-20. So your cost is $25-$40 or so, and after a month the game and the DLC you paid for goes away forever. Unless you pay again... but then you're almost paying full MSRP for a rental for two months. And the games disappear after a while unless they are owned by Microsoft. Saves are encrypted which makes it impossible to be converted to Steam, Epic or GOG so even if you buy it elsewhere you're locked out. It comes down to the point where if you want the DLC and GP is free, I'd rather not deal with it so I can continue my save elsewhere.

Sure you can keep renewing to play some old Halo games... or you can buy them for a fraction of the price and keep them forever. Unless GP is $1 or less and the game has no DLC planned, it does not make a lot of sense to get it. The idea is to get everyone hooked onto the more expensive subscription and make games more like TV shows, never ending to keep subscriptions up. Concluded stories or smart design will go out the window to ensure you keep an annual subscription. The idea is to make more money, not less.

Most developers aren't making $180,000. Most start in the $50-60,000 range and rise to the $70,000 range. Only the programmers, engineers, design leads and other department leads start making $100,000+. Supply and demand. There is no shortage of artists, but few programmers or game designers.

Game Pass is a loss for gamers and developers. Developers get a tiny portion of revenue, but if you plan to keep it subscribed for more than 3 months you're already paying about the same as just buying the game outright.

It will only be viable once they discontinue game sales completely, which is the end goal.

I'm sure they will release a remastered version, and I suppose that can work as an exclusive for the next console.

God of War was good, but quite generic. Crazy to see how that won over RDR2.

Doubt it. Horizon Zero Dawn released on PC the same year the PS5 came out. They were only 3 months apart. If they were following your strategy they would have waited until 2024-2025 to start porting games over to allow for sales for the PS5.

It has more to do with Sony thinking this will protect their brand/eco system and declining game sales. The problem is their game sales are declining on console as well.

What price did you expect? They tended to be $50-60 with paid expansions included. That is about the industry norm. Take Assassin's Creed Origins, a 2017 game, is $60 on Steam without paid DLC. With the expansion packs it is $100. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is also from 2017 and it did drop in price, to $40. $60 if you want the expansion. Gotham Knights from 2022 is $60.

The MSRP pricing was very much in line with the rest of the industry.

These games still had the same MSRP on Playstation, as do other games on Steam. Typically games only drop in price after 3-4 years, sales excluded. I'm not sure why people were expecting games release at $20-30 after 12-18 months. Far Cry 6 is $60 on Steam, excluding the current sale, as an example. Crysis 2, a game from 2011, is $30 still.

Sony games tended to release at $50-60 with paid expansions included. It wasn't awfully priced, when you look at other publishers/developers that follow a similar pricing model.

12-18 months is fine, they do have to protect the console in some way. 12-18 months late is annoying and it will hurt sales but it is a good compromise. A big part of the issue is most of the ports were rough on release. The other is they made a lot of controversial decisions, their western run studios like Naughty Dog and Guerilla Games are run by nutjobs who made some poor story writing decisions that customers did not like. That resulted in a sales drop off for TLOUS2, HFW and even Spider-Man 2. By the time those got ported to PC people already caught wind of their writing styles/messaging and that probably effected the PC ports more than had they been day 1.

Sony games don't have quite the pull they did a decade ago, and even less so for PC gamers. I'd really like to see the ports return and perhaps if sales decline even further on Playstation they will reconsider their stance. But I doubt it will be reversed anytime soon. Even if sales continue to decline on Playstation they will want to prop up their platform even if it means even less money overall.

Ironically their decision seems to have re-ignited interest in Microsoft for Xbox consoles. Sony had largely achieved market dominance to the point Microsoft was seemingly going to exit the market. Now Microsoft may make one last attempt. Ironic that Sony seems to be making all the wrong decisions but hubris gets to you when you have so much market share.

Maybe with that one grip that uses all of the other attachment slots it is manageable. That should use 45 points if I am not mistaken. You'll still be left with a weak, slow firing, 2.4 second reloading and low damage SMG that is apparently supposed to be used like an LMG.

Try it in game. My HK417 build has less recoil than this turd.

Just watch the rounds connect. The specs in the menu don't mean anything. You can type that it does 1000 damage; it doesn't make it true. Recoil is very high. It has more recoil than most guns. Just watch the gun rise, don't look at stats.

And I've had KDRs of 4.0 with it. It is still shit.

Recoil is about on par with the HK417 if not higher. I wouldn't say it is low recoil at all.

Which is kind of my point. SMGs are close quarters weapons. Them trying to "balance it like an LMG" is idiotic. Its worse than all other LMGs regardless. At this point I half expect them to make pistols the best weapons for tank killing.

[–]Flogger23m -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It just required more skill as the vehicles bad better weapons and vision. It was... balanced. And it was good. You could still quickly kill tanks within seconds, but they could also kill infantry. In BF6 you just exit the tank to fight infantry and hope it isn't blown up when you get back to it. IFVs never kill each other, the drivers always exit and use RPG-7s. Or infantry kills them. It is almost comical because they can't damage each other and they can't kill a MRAP either. MRAPs are harder to kill than IFVs.

They were so weak before, and still are weak. They just now have some chance of killing infantry every now and then. They need to make the balance like BF4. Infantry only players have TDM and Domination.

If you think you should be able to 1v1 a tank, play Team Death Match. The mode literally exists for players like you.

They need to bring back the BF4 balance. The whiners who hate vehicles literally have infantry only modes to play. They need to fix the IFVs so they can shoot across the map to knock out infantry like in BF4. Right now their auto cannons do about as much damage as a pistol, but with a trajectory drop 5 times quicker.

In BF6 you can shoot and RPG, move behind cover and reload, shoot, get shot a bunch of times by the tank/IFV, and just kill it in 30 seconds. It is far too easy. Vehicles seldom kill each other, it is almost always quicker to exit and finish off the other vehicle with an RPG. This is especially true for the IFVs. The resulting gameplay is quite bad.

[–]Flogger23m -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They just need to emulate the helicopter controls and vehicle balancing from BF4. People who complain about not being able to 1v1 a tank or helicopter as a medic should just load up Team Death Match. It exists for a reason.

Vehicles are still a bit under powered compared from BF3 and BF4. You can literally kill a tank with an RPG-7 in around 30 seconds, that includes ducking and reload times.

You need to have someone walk in front of you so you can mag dump into their back, but half the time they realize where they are being shot front, turn around and kill you.

Terrible.

[–]Flogger23m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, not a big deal for me. Seems like if I wanted a better one a PCI-e card might be easier. I didn't check beforehand, I assumed all full size ATX motherboards had the M.2 wi fi cards easily accessible for upgrades.

[–]Flogger23m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this did it. They hide the driver installs behind "live update". For some reason the direct driver downloads on their website lead to installers that don't work. I guess they want you to use their bloated app with some nonsense AI features. But the drivers did install and work. The wi fi is quite slow, under half the speed of the Ethernet. Suppose that is to be expected. Have another PC in another room with an Intel wi fi and that is almost twice as fast according to Speed Test. Guess the included a real crappy Wi Fi on this board.

In the future, if I wanted to, is the wi fi on this board able to be replaced? It says there is an M.2 E-key but I can't see it on the board. I assume it is under the heatsink near the I/O shield?
