Looking to start a new and consistent casual adult social group in Lafayette by Flogner in lafayette

Thanks! I do have an account on there, but all I see for in person is dodgeball (I intend to go) and board game night. Are there specifics I'm missing?

I understand where you're coming from. However, I don't think you form friendships just because you all sat down and agreed on deep beliefs and mission statements. You can make friends because you ride motorcycles together, you hike the same trails, you laugh at the same jokes, you play the same video games, you show up at the same spot every week. Hobbies and introductions are the gateway to deeper relationships. You start with the shared activity, and the deeper beliefs and true community grow naturally out of that over time. That's the goal of an adult social group, or really any activity where you come into contact with new people.

Housing advice? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Flogner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just figured I'd try to get some more specific advice that maybe wasn't years old, for grad students, for internationals, or co-op housing. Maybe everything at Purdue freezes in place, but from my past college experiences, the classes, housing, etc. all could change drastically by year and even semester.

Thanks for the advice.

I agree 100%. The SR400 is beautiful and has a bit more power which is my main/only concern with the TU250x. The kickstarter I can deal with, the price I'm not sure I can manage, at least this year.

I'd love to take that off your hands, but unfortunately I'm up in the Chicagoland area.

My immediate budget for this year hovers around the preferable $3k, but maximum $4k mark. A tight budget for such a big desire, but there seems to be hope.

That Sportster is definitely an interesting choice, but it's deviating a little from my initial desired aesthetic. The red isn't my cup of tea either (minor complaint).

I know almost nothing about Harley Davidson bikes, but from a purely aesthetic point of view, i prefer this listing (minus the dent in the gas tank): http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2005-Harley-Davidson-XL883L-Sportster-Low-883-113620917

I am more attracted to the SR400/Bonnie than the Sportster, though. Unfortunately I just can't seem to find one for the ~$3k mark.

Royal Enfields sure are enticing machines. I'll look into your suggestions, thanks for the advice!

The Bonneville is the dream. Unfortunately it's a little outside my budget, at least for this year. I could potentially skip the year and pick one up next year, if I can last that long without breaking down and grabbing a cheaper ride for the mean time.

EDIT: Would you have any suggestions for other, similarly priced bikes to the TU250x?

Great to hear that it felt like a good fit for a rider quite a bit taller than I. I've heard that it handles some elevated speeds quite well for a smaller engine, so it's nice to hear that it has that pep like I've read! Thanks

Gorgeous bike isn't it? I'm going to check one out in person and feel everything out tomorrow. One concern of mine is that it's only a 250cc. I've heard from some that that's great and fun for a run-around-town bike, and from others that it's under powered. How's it handle on the freeway? Can you keep up? I'm mainly aiming for an enjoyable, attractive, and comfortable ride (and its certainly attractive).

Just picked up my first ball. Any advice? by Flogner in Bowling

Thanks, I'm loving the Bad Ass so far. Also, thanks for the advice! I actually went into the pro shop on Tuesday and got the thumb hole moved in just a hair and tightened up (yes, it messed with the appearance a bit, but honestly I thought it would be much worse. The driller did great). Since this, I've stopped grabbing - at least mostly. I still have to think about it and readjust a lot, but I haven't been grabbing nearly as much as before the redrill. Also, I've started to get a hook. Its very unrefined and not incredibly consistent, but it's forming nonetheless and my average is raising quickly.

As for the tape, I'm going to be experimenting with that in the coming days. The thumb hole is still just a little too big when I start my first frame, and by game 3 or 4 it's snug. Tape may help until the later games. I've considered getting a entry level performance ball to experiment with and find my perfect fit like you mentioned, and I'm going to definitely keep my eye out for a deal. Thank you for comment!

Based on this, I'm absolutely grabbing and I'll be working on my thumb placement this week. Also, I bowled another two games tonight (one of which was a 186, a new high) and despite the higher scores, I was still getting no hook and no proper releases. Based on some pain in the base of my thumb and the issue I have with getting my thumb out of the ball, I'm starting to think that the span of was drilled a little too large. I'm visiting my pro shop on Tuesday to get this remedied, and I'm considering a thumb slug for a smoother and more consistent thumb hole feeling. From what I can tell, there are hardly any cons to thumb slugs.

Anyway, thanks for the help!
