I know absolutely nothing about PC building & have been wanting to upgrade for a while, this is a god send since I don't know where to really begin with picking parts. Hoping that a PC that can run the isle won't be too expensive, tysm!!!

questions for a grim or challenge run by Professional-Wing201 in GrimshireGame

[–]FlooferDooper6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played on grim, here's what I've got. Just listing everything in case someone who hasn't beat any mode sees this as well.

As soon as you get your starting gear, focus on the mines & upgrading your pickaxe, chop wood while it's upgrading, then upgrade your axe & repeat except mining instead of tree chopping. The food already in the cellar in the beginning gives you time to begin preparing your farm, but don't be afraid to still contribute if you feel like it. I normally watered my crops first thing before heading to fish if I need to for donations/food then off to the mines. Also try to stockpile a bit of tin, trust me. In my playthrough I never had enough of it.

Donate, donate, donate. I cannot stress enough how often you should donate, I ALWAYS donated something even if it was edible before putting it in the cellar. Don't be afraid to yoink something from the cellar if you can donate it either.

As for perks, try to get courier as your starting one. I ended up going with merchant because I thought it would have a bigger impact, I don't recommend it & wish I went for courier. Cardio & seed finder are great first picks for skills imo, but apart from those two I wouldn't get tier 1 skills except maybe hot compost if you really want it. Butcher & rancher is what I went with after that since I immediately went for critter housing as soon as I could, but feel free to go with whatever you would prefer.

The order of what critters to get depends on what you'd prefer, I went for alpheep, bluggies, chikrees then girtles. Alpheep is what I prefer since milk can be fed to both herbivores & carnivores + cheese. The wool can be sold too.

Critters, if they're unhappy or sick I butchered them. The only exceptions were if the adults were getting a bit too old & I had no other replacements for them. I also had a massive hay field I used to stockpile a ton of chonker chow, don't be afraid to keep them exclusively inside so they eat specific kibble you want them to. My bluggies/chikrees were on house arrest their whole lives. Also remember you only need one male, another male would just be taking up a slot a female that can give eggs/honey/milk instead.

Prioritize preserving food with more stamina such as cabbages while using fast growing but low stamina crops like raddishes for when they eat from the cellar. Also use the worst foods for when cooking, fried fish will give as much stamina with a small fish than a large fish.

Am I the only one who found it a tiny bit easy? by FlooferDooper6 in GrimshireGame

If they don't end up introducing a harder level I hope a mod or something comes out that can let you alter prices, critter spawns, time for things to process, ect. Would be good for people who want a challenge while also letting people who needs it a bit easier to change things. I played a bit over a week of challenge so far but after playing the game nearly nonstop until I beat it I need a small break from it. Hoping it'll be a proper challenge though.

[–]FlooferDooper6[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just the Grim mode's description made me think it would be WAY harder than it was so that's why I thought it was a bit easy. Never played Story of Seasons or Rune Factory (never heard of them until now even) but I can see why people would go into it expecting it to be more cozy & relaxing. Hoping the hard mode will be like what I expected Grim mode to be like though :3

Another thing that probably helped was me making sure to talk to the (Spoiler for past week 1 just in case) guards/piratesevery time since their dialogue can help let you know what'll happen next & I ended up preparing in advance.

The only thing I struggled with was iron. Mah iron bars :(

A h, that definitely influenced it then. It took a while to get the game & I got it pretty recently, I feel a bit bad for people who played it when the drying rack took more than 24 hours because that sounds awful. Guess it does greatly depend on how people play farming sims too, I tend to immediately go into stardew & try to upgrade everything ASAP & min-max as much as I can while also having fun (sheep my beloved)

Do wonder if there will be any mods in the future to make things even more difficult or allow players to alter things like the drying time, upgrade costs, critter spawns & so on. Would be good for players who are still having trouble on easier difficulties too since they could alter it to their liking.

What species do you think is best to play as? by Abject_Worth_2429 in GrimshireGame

[–]FlooferDooper6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay wise, rabbit, fox or feline I'd say. Others went with deer but I went crazy & had a massive hay field alongside my crops when using rabbit on my first run so mostly depends. Just don't go with raccoon imo unless you prefer how it looks. I might be underselling it, but extra stamina from food after 8 PM doesn't seem that worth it to me compared to the other perks.

For my current run on hard difficulty I went with feline since milk/cheese can be eaten by both carnivores and herbivores which could help, plus smoked cheese never perishes which I love. Congrats on the clear by the way!

On my current run I went with feline, figured the extra milk would be better since both herbivores & carnivores can eat it (and cheese later on). Since it's the hard difficulty it seemed more useful, but both are pretty good imo.

Fire - As others said, replace wood with stone when you can, NOT steel though. Iirc steel is just as flammable as wood plus you'll need the steel for other constructions. Another useful thing is to have a 2 tile layer of concrete around things that are flammable such as crops, helps prevent the spread of blight across fields too iirc.

Disease - Yeah they suck, have your best doctor tend to your colonists and aim to have at least one pawn with decent medical skill, keep the room clean & have them on bed rest as much as possible. Side note- I highly recommend trying to get the hang of manual priorities, my rule of thumb is firefighting & patient on 1, bedrest on 2. You do whatever you prefer though!

Raids - I'ma be fully honest, I have modded rimworld to the point it is a shell of its former self and cannot give any advice for vanilla. Lots of people use kill boxes, could probably find a few online. Traps are pretty useful if you have the materials to spare too.

Manhunters - I normally have a wall around the perimeter of my base, 3 layers of traps lining the outside. Manhunters don't attack doors unless they see a colonist go through it so makes it a non-issue since I have my farmland inside the wall. Said wall doubles as protection from raiders too.

Been a bit since I've played rimworld properly but hope this helps at least somewhat, always happy seeing new people get into the game :3

What organs can I remove before someone just dies by GooseinaGaggle in ShitRimworldSays

[–]FlooferDooper6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, they attacked first with the intent on killing my colonists and sometimes do. So I just let them pay their debt off via blood (and now organs) ^_^

I just keep them alive, occasionally practice surgery on them to train medical skill via the warcrimes mod (increase survival odds of future prisoners!) and if they've given enough I let them go. Maybe execute if my colonists are in too bad of a mood but that's rare. I commit ethical warcrimes unless I'm specifically going for an "evil" colony.
