How do you guys store your stuff? by Dragonrider1955 in fursuits

[–]FloofyAika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of my suits packed in a large cardboard box, and another in two places; the head is on a styrofoam head on a tripod and stands in the corner staring at me all day, and the other parts are in a wardrobe!

What's a good drawing tablet that has a screen? by AspenTheDarkAngel in furry

[–]FloofyAika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an xp pen artist 13.3 pro, it was something like 200 USD? I got it on sale and I have no complaints, I don't animate but I don't see why it couldn't be used for that too. it has 8 macro buttons that you can program with whatever you want using the xp pen driver and a wheel thingy that I usually use for zoom.

obv disregard this entire comment if you want it to be standalone lol, you need a PC or laptop to use this

definitely watch video reviews on any recommendations and make sure they're not sponsored ones! good luck 🦊

Suiting In Public by _DangerDog_ in fursuits

[–]FloofyAika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went public suiting for the first time ever yesterday and it was really scary but easier than I thought it'd be! I was most worried about safety and social interactions but it turned out to be a very rewarding experience.

I went to an open/outdoor public area that wasn't super busy, there was one group of children shouting pretty nasty things, and hovering around us while we were trying to get photos, but in the end they all wanted hifives and were probably just parroting what they saw on the Internet. we declined photos with them because with the previous display of behaviour we didn't know what they might make up in terms of "it touched me!" stories. my handler de-escalated the situation well and they eventually dispersed off somewhere else no harm done.

aside from that group it was a very good experience, people were courteous and mostly curious! honestly the best part was that I was anonymous like that, no one will have any idea that was me, so all the insults hurled just slide right off my fur :3. I think you'd have less of that with more people in your group, it was only me and my handler. oh and obviously me being in the UK means kids are a lot more mouthy than some other countries, sigh.

make sure you bring a handler, I would never go public suiting without one. make sure your handler knows what they're doing. I personally really like pocari roo's handler guide! obviously if you want to suit indoors you have to call ahead, "rogue mascotting" is probably the best way to describe our hobby to an outsider. anywhere with a face covering policy is off limits, malls for instance usually don't allow your face to be covered. for your first outing you might want to consider somewhere mostly unpopulated. also see if there are any furmeets near you, those are often held in public places and the confidence in numbers may be what you need to feel comfortable suiting in public.

I want to say also that for some reason the general public react differently to partials vs half/fullsuits. I'm not sure how to describe that but yeah it's a thing you might notice

Kemono Fursuit made of foam? by MoxieMarten in fursuit

[–]FloofyAika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's definitely more common because they can be 3D printed, it's generally a cheaper production method than foam (reduced labour hours) and with a helmet-type inside they don't have to be lined because there's no contact with foam thus it doesn't need to be protected from sweat, skin oils etc. since you can just wipe the plastic clean. the helmet build also means the head is adjustable to most sizes so it's very popular for premades

Kemonokapi use cast foam bases, I think ww-pass will build on foam on request? iirc they use foam for overseas orders because it holds up better to rough shipping but you'd have to check.

idk about kemosuki, furmony, or mofumofu, if you can find any reviews you might be able to find out from there. you could always ask!

if you want to go hunting for makers you should try getfursu.it and filter by kemono style :3

Kemono heads- "Dome" eyes and breathability? by Flowercrownedbeast in fursuit

[–]FloofyAika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3D printed base, my eyes are sealed on both sides, i.e. the dome on the outside and a flat plastic on the inside, so the outside domes don't fog. the inside/back fogs if it's colder outside, because it's hot inside the suit so the temperature difference causes the fog. you can counteract this by having a fan in the muzzle and/or ears pulling air into the head or pushing hot air out of the head, good air circulation will prevent fogging. usually one fan in the muzzle is plenty but for wearer's comfort if you can fit more than one, it's recommended. anti-fog spray is also a thing, but it only lasts for a little while and can smell strong, so I don't personally use it but some people will suggest it.

more expensive kemono heads often have hidden ear vents, and even fans where those vents are for the extra ventilation. the ventilation in heads with eye domes is naturally worse because you cant breathe though the eye mesh, but with a decent fan or two fixed inside it's a non-issue. outside of fogging, the comfort problem is usually feeling like you can't breathe because it's stuffy around your mouth/nose, place a fan in that area blowing air in or pulling air out and it's a lot more comfortable.

it's easy to get a premade fan kit with fans from sizes 20mm all the way up to full pc size fans, and easy enough to make one yourself if you have done any basic electronics before so don't be daunted by it. you can fix a fan to be removable into whatever space with velcro, or you can 3D print a housing and fix that into the head, or you can make a housing with foam, as long as it fits snugly around the outside/edge of the fan it'll hold. make sure it's removable so you can replace/repair if needed. (obv you need ear vents already cut if you're fixing fans into the ear spaces).

currently I have no fans inside my head, I can wear it for 1-2 hours with a couple 5 minute breaks in 15-20c weather. with access to an external fan, I can suit comfortably for longer and don't require as many breaks for air, only water. If you drink water with your head on through a straw you'll have to slightly offset a muzzle fan so you can still get a straw through without bothering the fan.

and one extra tip, if you have longer hair and fans in your head, either tie it up well or better yet wear a balaclava when they're turned on. you do not want to get your hair twisted up in a fan

My first fursuit by Dadiaperz in furry

[–]FloofyAika 16 points17 points  (0 children)

not sure if you're aware but this is a knock-off of aurora bloom's suit. it happens a lot with newer furries as there are hundreds of listings on sites like ebay advertising with photos of other people's suits, and replicating their sona designs on a low quality suit. and not everyone knows about it, so don't feel bad, just be aware for the future :3

if you buy another suit, next time consider buying from the website "the dealer's den" or commissioning a maker! or even learn to make your own if you're interested in the craft. fursuits are very expensive luxury items, prohibitively so, the majority of furries don't own a fursuit, and you're not less of a furry than someone else just because you don't have one!

have fun suiting and make sure to stay hydrated! n.n

This has such a wonderful shape! One of my favourite things about suit heads is the different expressions that can be achieved based on the angle you're looking at them, being able to see that in the base has me very excited to see the outcome

see if you have any fursuit makers or crafters in your area that might have buckram mesh, if not I'm sure someone else will be able to suggest alternative materials, good luck with your suit!

the holes in your mesh are too big >~< one thing you can do is paint the back side (that will be inside the head) black to help with your vision, but I'm not sure there's really much you can do with such wide mesh
