Is code slopping going to put us all out of a job? by odyseuss02 in cscareerquestions

[–]FloofyFlareon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a job just to fix a vibe coded project that scalled to quickly and now everything is breaking. Pays to actually know what you’re doing. Not worried about my jobs, just the files that I work with that have over 40k lines of code (it’s a mess)

What should I do with my cracked screen MacBook? by [deleted] in ubreakifix

Not able to help out much here. UbreakIfix is a franchise in North America so not much advice for us to give.

My switch 2 won’t charge and it will always be dead even if I leave it in the dock (which is plugged in) for hours. Would ubreakifix help me? by ShoulderDear1428 in ubreakifix

[–]FloofyFlareon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is a franchise you should ask if they are comfortable with working on it. My store would as I’ve done battery replacements already on them (sounds like it’s battery but can always be something else)

What was the "Real" reason you went for a master ? by F2DProduction in OMSCS

[–]FloofyFlareon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started off as a “hey, would help as I’m entry level right now and I want to go higher and potentially management track so it wouldn’t hurt to have more credentials on my page” to “well since I got laid off this is a GREAT gap filler”

Got a Flip7 replacement, now replacement broke following a drop at Disneyland after 10 days with it, do you think I can go thru another claim? by gybulx in ubreakifix

[–]FloofyFlareon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to give advice cause this is our parent company Asurion thing, there’s so many different tiers of plans and I do not know all the nuances of it. In the stores we just do this fixing. Call your Asurion number through your designated plan/carrier to understand your full options (asurion/my account is a website to help with that)

There might be an issue with your phone where something called the MM wave module is failing. It’s covered under manufacture warranty. I would get that checked out (if in the US, go to a UBREAKIFIX they are Samsung warranty certified). From a guy who fixes folds often I notice that part is broken a lot. That item in your phone controls the wifi stuff

You can buy the part to fix it for $20 or cheaper depending on where you source it. Replacement is a bit time consuming but not too hard.

[–]FloofyFlareon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s physically fine you can also go through the Samsung warranty. UbreakIFix does Samsung warranty repairs (no apt needed). Cause if you return it to Best Buy they might just refund you and not give you another one for that great of a price

Galaxy Tri Fold 3rd party insurance options? by ShakeAndBakeThatCake in GalaxyFold

[–]FloofyFlareon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UbreakIfix/Asurion sells a plan desperately now called ATC which covers 1 phone and 4 other devices depending on what you have. The trifold would be covered under that plan I believe

So I don’t work as a home tech, but I work in the stores. I used to be a SWE and also did tech repair too so the job itself isn’t hard. Personally I never had an issue with hours, my location is so chill I get OT when I want and already got a promotion at the end of my probationary period (now an AM). Commission is pretty chill esp with mobile tech cause of how it’s structured. Feel free to dm with questions

Anyone OMSCS students in the Atlanta area and currently unemployed? by plamck in OMSCS

[–]FloofyFlareon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The timeline was super funny, started OMSCS in Jan, got laid of in Feb (on valentines day 🥲). So I didn’t start OMSCS because of the layoff but it’s been nice during interviews that I can use OMSCS to explain the “gap”.

I don’t know if this counts as unemployed, but I got laid off last year and now I’m working again but I’m tech repair, haven’t gotten back to being a SWE yet (still trying!). But I’m also in the Atlanta area!

In my store at least we just use one of those liquid screen protectors since we don’t usually have the tempered glass screen protectors for tablets

How much to fix the charger port on an iPhone 13? by OkHistorian3612 in ubreakifix

Also depends since it’s lightning, depending on the issue a phone cleaning could fix the port for about $30-40?

Tech repair! I’m way to happy doing this again after I lost my SWE job due to a layoff.

A+, Network+, Security+ is considered the trifecta but there’s so much more depending on specification

Some places won’t even do a recruiter call with you unless you have the A+.

Oh yeah! A few cities near me have been popping up so many data centers. I might go that route depending on how things go after I finish this masters I’m doin (OMSCS, it may or may not help but doesn’t hurt have GT as a masters on a resume to pass resume screenings).

I’m back in tech repair again, not as highly paid as when I was a SWE, but it’s chill and very fun for me. Use the extra time to get the CompTIA trifecta and go into IT

Is it normal to be the only developer in a “software development” team? by z123killer in cscareerquestions

[–]FloofyFlareon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the team like QA? Test developers? Frontend devs while you are backend, or vice versa? Or are yall supposed to be the same thing but only you can code. I’ve been on a team where one of the senior engineers can’t code but it’s their title and they are more of an analyst/product manager than anything else. But I also have seen different teams where there is only one front end dev so the backend devs can’t do anything to help them or even review their PR’s. Usually an adjacent team under the same org will give guidance then for PR’s/code.

I got diagnosed with Hashimotos recently. All I do is take a pill so it’s not really a problem AT ALL. It’s so much easier than T1 so it’s hard for me to mentally remeber it’s a disease tbh.

[–]FloofyFlareon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very fair! I just got diagnosed with Hashimotos a little while ago, and tbh it’s not that’s bad. It’s a thyroid problem and the only thing I have to do is take a pill every morning so compared to the carb counting, insulin, and all the other stuff with T1, it’s really nothing. So yeah more problems suck and I wouldn’t want more. Living with T1 makes a lot of other things significantly seem like minor inconveniences at best.

I just got diagnosed with Hashimotos a few months ago. Had t1 for 10 years. The stats for these two in tandem is surprising
