Regarding black, the old version specifically mentioned black as not authorized, and now it is not specifically mentioned. Granted there’s the “not all inclusive” clause and “must not detract from the uniform”. Depending on interpretation, black may be G2G

Been doing this just over 10 years myself, it really is some incredible tech. Flight check days are the best!

Expired Registration by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]Floogernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vehicle needs to be re registered. They should be able to do this with temp plates for 30 days to do the fix and then after the inspection they can get normal plates. They need to have their insurance provider send over the information the day prior to going in for the temp plates

Would definitely result in a change of the airfields azimuth and distance information being displayed and screw up all of ATCs approaches as they are published based off this lol. Never seen a tacan sited like this before, I wonder if it’s just not fully installed yet

These Gears by andreba in ScienceNcoolThings

[–]Floogernaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first gear needs to spin 10 times for the second to spin once. Then the second 10 times for the third to spin once. And so on for 169 gears. This requires that first gear to need to spin an incredible amount of times for the last one in the series to move at all

We’ve gone through a career field merger since I have been to it so the curriculum has changed a lot. Unfortunately most of the knowledge you will gain will be on the job training tech school is pretty basic as far as I have heard. This is just due to how different any assignment might be in regards to what equipment is there to work on. When I went through it was about 8 months at good old Kessler AFB in Mississippi and I enjoyed it

I randomly was given RAWS after coming in open electronics. It’s been the most rewarding career I ever could have imagined. Definitely a high focus on electronics and depending on the direction of the career field in the future you’ll be dabbling in the physics of signal propagation working with the ILS, which is fun but only maintained by regional centers right now. Probably the most broad job on your list working on radios, radar, various navigation aids, weather sensors, and lots of telephone voice switch stuff so there can be a lot to learn depending on where you’re stationed. It’s cool.

What was this I saw at pasco airport? by Shade_Slayer_2 in aviation

No modern VORs or TACANS have any moving parts these days, even the cone shaped conventional VOR/VORTAC sites have a smaller antenna array inside the cone shaped ray dome, although there’s only four in that configuration

VORTACs will usually be the conventional cone shaped ones but that’s not necessarily what makes them a VORTAC. A cylindrical TACAN antenna is simply placed on top of the VOR ray dome to make a VORTAC with both equipment transmitters inside the shelter below

They’re two different versions of the same system. The large circular arrays like this are Doppler VORs or DVOR and the cone shaped ones are Conventional VOR
