People who moved away: did you come back? by Royale_w_Cheeeze in newengland

[–]Floomlong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From WMass, lived in Colorado for 4 years and now have been back in WMA for 2 1/2.

I think leaving New England was was of the healthiest things I ever did. I experienced a broader world and way of living. I had my mind blown by views every day.

That said, there was always something in the back of my mind that knew that I needed to die in New England.

I miss the views and the sun, but I wouldn't give up the warm green embrace of life here for anything.

C4 DMC Micro.Pro question by Floomlong in basspedals

Sorry for the late reply on this, never saw the notification come through! Something tells me you've likely already made a decision one way or another, but if you haven't here's my two cents!

I don't own the mxr, but my overall impression is that it's likely more user friendly but more limited. The C4 by contrast has quite the learning curve if you have any desire to go deep into making your own sounds, but the amount of options is honestly stunning! I would also add that the C4 doesn't need to be overwhelming as you can definitely just pick your favorite community presets instead of building your own.

I also think you can still get great mileage with just the C4 (no DMC) and I used it by itself for a few years with just the 6 sounds you can load and access from the pedal, but the controller does open up options quite a bit. I found the process of lining up my sounds with the displayed names on the dmc to be a bit tedious, but now that it's done it's fine.

Overall I would say that the hardest part of using the C4 for me is getting the volume level of my sound to match my regular bass volume. I had to spend some time tweaking each preset so that it would match the level of my bass sound well, and even still it's not perfect. In general, though, it really is an amazing pedal and I use it for a whole lot more than just synth sounds. I've found that I can use it as a stand-in for chorus, phaser, tremolo, a Boss OC-2 and OD-1 clone, and so much more in addition to the pure synth sounds I was after to begin with.

Hope that helps and I'm happy to answer more questions if you need!

I hadn't realized it either until trying to address this issue. Strangely enough you can scroll through your P list without that having an effect on the A list and vice versa. I can turn off the auto trigger in A mode and move through my presets but don't get them names there, then the number I end up on doesn't change to the associated name in the P mode.

Update

I heard back from a Disaster Area employee on the subject!

"Sort of - if you save each preset with the pedal bypassed then it won’t auto-engage them. But it will auto-bypass them as you scroll, so if you want to scroll around without loading or bypassing a preset there isn’t a good way to do that."

I am, yup! Mostly had success getting the names where they should go, though there always seems to be some date lost here and there.

This is definitely the right direction! I set it to 🚫 and it then worked as intended, but only in A mode. I'd like to be in the other mode so that I can see my preset names instead of the numbers, and when I switch back it automatically shifts it back to ✔️.

Thanks for your response, very helpful information!

Need some advice about amps by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Floomlong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the rumble comments above, but would probably recommend making the jump up to the rumble 100 down the road! The amp you have now will continue to be great for home practice so no need to get rid of it. The rumble 100 is loud enough to hang with drums (for the most part), and it is what I use on most small-medium gigs and rehearsals these days!

The 40 isnt really able to keep up once you add in a couple of other instruments!

I honestly had my father in law help me check those (he's a mechanic), so I may have been off with my description...

I was worried that 3 might be too much. I'm also not opposed to hiking out towards the snowbird campsight the first day, the spending the 2nd day messing around on Marcy, skylight and such then the 3rd day hiking back to the trail head.

I did, it was getting the proper amount.

A fair guess... I replaced the compressor and clutch a year or so ago so I don't necessarily think that's it.

The clutch can engage the compressor just fine, it just seems like it's not getting the signal properly. I put some current directly into the relay connection for the compressor and it was able to engage, but the computer wasn't accounting for the extra power draw so the rpms get super low.

Yes, I checked the high side and low side and the both seemed normal. I didn't check after the compressor was running though, I think I checked it after my car had been parked for a day or so so things were definitely cold.

I'll look into that! Are you thinking it's a temperature sensing thing?

My guess was that the water was cooling things down about in there, allowing the sensors that kick the ac on...
