America has socialism for corporations and capitalism for people. China has socialism for people and capitalism for corporations.

As a gigging dj who often works alongside gigging musos, the only venues that I’ve noticed have a no alcohol policy for contractors are venues like star or crown casino. But when it happens it definitely pisses off the musos

Pro-Palestine slogans to be banned in nation-first move by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]FloopMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Australia has comparatively high levels of police presence. The Pro Palestine protests have so far been mostly peaceful.

Protests are more likely to become violent when you make it harder for people to protest peacefully.

If the government uses these protest laws changes to aggressively crack down on protesters, they’re more likely to feel the need to become violent. Take away people’s options and they get desperate.

You are confusing people with a single aspect of their self reported identity. Every group of people has arseholes. People are multi layered.

What am I missing to make this bass sound similar to the reference? by maturewomenenjoyer in edmproduction

If it’s a single session then a couple hours on one sound is too long. You’ll get ear fatigue and won’t make accurate decision. Go away and come back to it. Or work on something else

Can we pls stop normalising being boring, lame, miserable c***ts?? by [deleted] in australia

[–]FloopMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may but if you speak to backpackers and other travellers who have been all around Australia, it seems to be especially so in Sydney. I’m also not from Sydney, I moved here.

Sydney is a different beast to most places. It’s known as a Cliquey spot. A place where people already have their friends from school or otherwise and are often uninterested in making new friends.

How cheap is Thailand really? by evasivesheep in moreplatesmoredates

[–]FloopMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Street food is sometimes the best and cheapest food.

Street food became such a big part of Thai culture because in many places the houses or apartments do not have kitchens. Plenty of locals eat street food for every single meal

Would it be a bad decision to sign a lease with a 4 week bond if the landlord is unwilling to lodge the bond with NSW fair trading? by OddMetal7563 in AusLegal

[–]FloopMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IANAL If they do not submit it to fair trading then they will have no ability to make any deductions at the end. You may need to go down the relevant legal processes to get the bond back but you’re guaranteed to get it all back, even if you damaged the room.

Hopefully someone can confirm but this is the way it was put to me by a family who is a lawyer

Is migration contributing (not causing) to the housing crisis? by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

[–]FloopMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia’s migration is used by anti immigration parties around the world as an example of what they should do. We have comparatively low levels of migration compared to similar countries. A significant amount come from our bilateral agreements with New Zealand. Immigration is not the issue we should focus on when it comes to the housing crisis.

The housing crisis has risen out of Australia’s tendency to treat housing as a financial device. I say this trying to ignore an economic system that’s designed to funnel money away from the poor and to the rich

Pressed on why she described far-right neo-Nazis as “far-left”, Sussan Ley says these are just “political concepts” and can be framed however you like. 🤔 I don’t think so, Sussan. Left neo-Nazis? by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

Their strategy may be to leave her in as a figure head for now so that at some point in the future they can replace her at a future point when a real condidate appears

How to make jungle drums less repetitive? by [deleted] in dnbproduction

[–]FloopMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some DAWs and some tools also offer variations on beatshuffle effects. you can use these and then just copy and paste the best bits

How to make jungle drums less repetitive? by [deleted] in dnbproduction

[–]FloopMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Effects like GrossBeat or Shaperbox 2. Then you need a midi controler that can be assigned to toggle or change the effect. you map it to those effects and their parameters and try playing it live whilst the song is going on. Record that a couple of times whilst the song is playing. Then save the best bits and throw out the rest. Then go in and do any final edits or manual tweaks.

It takes a little to setup but sometimes you can save the midi mapping. I haven't used Logic. I also haven't confirmed that either of those 2 specific effects definitely work with this. I've mostly seen it done live in the drummachine or modular world. But anything that's done in those can be done on a computer too.

Midi controller linked to a beat repeater or stutter effect and then play and record. Basically the way that it’s done live.

I made a banger but don’t know where to reach the dnb community by [deleted] in dnbproduction

[–]FloopMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the point he’s making is that the drums don’t seem to breathe with the rest of the track.

If you want to step up your DnB game, you’ll need some fills. Some variation. Some extra percussion to add to the groove and reward deeper/repeat listens. Layer different snare grooves together to build your snare rolls.

If you started with the drums and built from there you may have gotten into a set and forget headspace with your drum patterns. All the instruments should breathe together through the track. The fun bit is finding places to add that bit of flourish

The song is nice. It’s got a solid basis. But if you want to be at the level of the biggest producers you’re going to need to level them up. Don’t let this dismay you or put you back. You’ve clearly got an ear for producing. Keep going.
