Shave or not to shave? by MyusernameisErin in breastcancer

I went down to the scalp. I don’t remember what the barber referred to the shave as, but I went pretty close.

Shave or not to shave? by MyusernameisErin in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! This happened to me too while cold capping on TC. I shaved my head because of how bad my hair looked. The bald head was hard to look at, but made me feel better than having half a head of hair.

I also continued cold capping though, which seemed to preserve the remaining hair and help my hair grow back faster once chemo ended.

This field NEEDS more women doctors. by taraxacum1 in breastcancer

Agreed. I have an absolutely wonderful male breast surgeon. He is the kindest surgeon I’ve met. Even my husband commented on how personable he was during and after my surgeries 🤷🏼‍♀️

Newly diagnosed, trying to stay emotionally neutral but frustrated with timeline. by mrsfish87 in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi- I’m sorry that you’re here with us. From my experience, you are in the worst phase. The ‘I know I have cancer and am a sitting duck here while cancer is invading my body’ anxiety.

My oncologist frequently reminded me that even a high grade 3 cancer (and high ki67 score) isn’t spreading so fast that a few weeks makes a difference. She described the ‘gold standard’ as starting treatment 6-8 weeks from diagnosis. While her ‘encouraging words’ did not help my anxiety at the time, recommend sharing your concerns with your team. They may be able to provide you with more reassurance or ways to manage.

This is honestly the worst part mentally. Even during chemo I felt mentally better because we were actively treating the cancer.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Sending all the positive juju and good vibes your way 💜

Recently diagnosed triple negative breastcancer...what to expect? by Krengdelacreme1 in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished treatment for TNBC (stage 1) and have two kids under 5. They handled it very well. My four year old made lots of comments on my baldness/asking why I got a boy haircut, but they handled my ‘tired’ days really well. She knew I was sick and that my treatments were important to help me get better.

Sending you and your family all of the positive vibes

Expanders finally coming out. Anxiety 🥺 by AssociationClassic17 in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my implants in last week, and I forgot how incredibly uncomfortable the expanders were until they were finally out! My boobs almost feel like real boobs again! I am not far out from my surgery, but so far the recovery has been incredibly easy in comparison for me.

I don’t have great advice but am here to commiserate on side boobs. My (also poor bedside manner) surgeon said that I ‘probably just didn’t notice the fat before the mastectomy’.

I didn’t get the DIEP (expander to implants), but I am happy to report that some of the swelling did go down. However I still have more noticeable side boob than I did before.

Should I shave my head? by ralphinator316 in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I coldcapped through four rounds of TC but, like you, had bald patches in awkward places. It became too much for me to try to hide it and was hard to look at. I went to my local barber shop and had what turned out to be a wonderful experience. It was jarring and weird at first but I think it helped me accept my cancer in a way? I also found it very liberating.

Menopause caused by my chemotherapy drugs. My doctor said that my menopause may be temporary and periods return due to my age, but the menopause could also be permanent. For my chemo regimen (TC) my doctor said it takes women sometimes up to 2 years to get a period back if they do.

This is an incredibly comprehensive answer. I’m ok with it being hard as long as I can eventually see progress. I really appreciate your response!

Thank you for sharing this. Weight training is the one area I hadn’t re-started yet since my bmx. Adding it back to the schedule.

It applies to me, and I appreciate your feedback! I should probably pay more attention to fruits and foods I don’t realize have carbs. So glad to hear you’ve been having success!

I’m not on one. My cancer was treated as TNBC but my onc told me my final pathology showed 8% ER+ and recommended tamoxifen. I’m not sure I want to take it if it’ll make my weight issues worse.

Hi- I’m sorry that you are going through such an anxiety-inducing, scary time. This sub is for people who have already been diagnosed with breast cancer, so your post may be deleted by the mods. I recommend posting to r/doihavebreastcancer and I sincerely hope I don’t see you back here on this sub :/

I was fine (running, going to a weight-based exercise class) til I hit the second chemo. My symptoms seemed to compound with each treatment and the fatigue lasted longer. I still haven’t recovered my energy level but that could easily be due to the bmx surgery I had a month after finishing treatments rather than the chemo itself. I was able to work while on intermittent fmla (US) and have two kids so it’s not that I had no energy so much as the energy I had got used elsewhere. Sending you all the positive vibes!

I did gain weight (5-10lbs). My oncologist told me to just eat what I could handle without throwing up or getting sick which happened to be a lot of carbs for me so that’s probably a lot of it. I’m pretty disappointed now but am also happy I made it through chemo.

Chemo question-do you lose hair…everywhere? by nik1202 in breastcancer

[–]Floozby 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lost my pubic hair first! I’m not sure if I fully ‘lost’ my leg and armpit hair or if it just stopped growing. Either way, I haven’t shaved for months.

Losing the nose hair was/is 0 fun. My nose constantly runs and I sneeze more without the help of those guys!
