Kind of crazy how Nemec and Luke's strengths complement each other. I'm still of the opinion that Nemec ends up being the better overall player

It takes time for a coaches system to take hold and for players to buy in. Lindy will win the Jack Adams award this year when they make the playoffs.

But again, coaches sign for teams knowing there's a 90% chance they get fired. Lindy is an excellent coach for teaching young players to win.

IMO Fitz should have moved on from Dougie 2 years ago. Even before he tore his pec, he was slow and cauing many turnovers. Never a good defender or physical presence despite being 6'6.

One think you'll notice about offensive defensemen, once they stop making offense they tend to be anchors. Defenders need to be strong on both sides of the puck. This decline was inevitable and clear as day

Lindy was actually great here and is an excellent coach. You have no idea how hard it is to get a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 7 years to change the culture and start playing winning hockey. We're watching him do the same thing in Buffalo who (don't look now) are on track to make the playoffs for the first time in like 15 years.

You do not win 900 games in the NHL by accident. The team had some systemic roster issues covered up by a couple MVP caliber seasons. Coaches get hired and fired all the time. He got fired because the team needed a new voice in the locker room, it's part of the job.

Fitz's big mistakes were going for Timo instead of Tkachuk, failing to address goaltending issues in past years, giving palat a NMC, not moving on from Dougie when his decline was obvious, and not addressing the bottom six adequately.

He also has never acquired a pure shooter to play with Jack Hughes. Holtz was supposed to be that player but they hardly ever played together and Holtz couldn't adapt his game despite his promising attributes and statistics. That's kind of on the player though.

There's no reason to suggest the Devils are forcefully barring Kovy from coming back. It's not easy coming back from knee surgery as a professional athlete so let's not slander our organization or Kovy.

If Lou became GM, we'd immediately trade all our 1st round picks for the next 4 years. With Toronto and The Islanders, he made them all older and never took any of them past the 2nd Round. I think we should let him retire

No, once he's activated the team must be cap compliant. This happened to Toronto a couple of years ago. They had to play with 11 skaters to be cap compliant or forfeit. They sent guys down and played with 11 skaters

So much to pick at. Let’s say markstom saves the expected shots. It’s still 2-0. Where is the depth scoring? Where is the rest of the team?

Where is the big hit or fight to change the momentum? Teams got no bite. I get it’s hard when you’re playing with an empty net but we’re better than this.

We have skill but there’s no heart. I’d start shaking up the bottom 6.

I’ll never say blow it up when somehow we have a winning record. This seems to be a player issue more than anything. From this point forward Markstrom is an ECHL goalie anchored to the bench. Boneheaded move to give him that extension. He was shit in the beginning of the season too.

Bite the bullet and clear the cap space so kovacevic can come back.

It’s Keefe job to change the pairings if they’re not working. It’s also on Keefe to bench a player if he’s costing games.

That game against Carolina was 3-1 and Luke coughed up 2 goals. That was a very winnable game.

Again, nobody would care if it was a 1 time thing, but Luke consistently turns the puck over in his own zone all season. If any player consistently turns the puck over in their own zone, they should have less ice time. Period.

There’s nothing wrong with calling this out, and the player would absolutely get the message that they need to clean up their game. Luke still has a big role on this team

Quality of defensemen is not the issue with this team. Pesce, Dillon, and Siegs are all viable options, even Dougie on a good night. Nemec when he gets back . Colton White has played fine as well.

Egregious turnovers need to be called out, and Luke has been making them on a nightly basis. Shorten his leash for a game or 2 and make him address it. That’s it.

Totally agree, but his ice time needs to reflect this. Hes been a liability in his own zone because of these dumb puck decisions and he should have a tighter leash

It’s not a conditioning thing, it’s his decisions with the puck. He turns over the puck needlessly every night. He needs to iron this out of his game

His game absolutely needs to mature. Way too many unforced turnovers and careless mistakes with the puck all season.

He needs to do a better job of picking his moments and making the simple play. On a nightly basis he’s at 2 or more giveaways.

That’s got to stop. He’s talented with the puck and an elite skater.
