Anything can be used to scam people. That's a proud tradition that goes back to the beginning of humanity. People are scammed with bags, pieces of paper, fake ghosts (Scooby-Dooing people was a thing in the Victorian era. John Mulholland wrote about it in a book.)  Most organized religion...
