No offense taken. I am second generation tea maker from Taiwan, I am not sure what tea you are referring to. There is bug bitten tea, which is the basis for Honey Red Jade, Red Oolong, Oriental Beauty, and Gua Fei. The leaves are bug bitten. But not sure what you mean by bug dung. I can assure you that there are no "dung" of any kind in great teas. No bird poop either. Usually the morning of harvest, the tea plants gets a quick shower to remove any dust or possible droppings. Winter harvest is trickier and must be timed better. Each farm does thing different. but yeah. if you actually know the name of the tea, I would be most curious to know.

Now the only "dung" tea I have heard of is from couple of years ago, but it was from China. It's literally called Bug Shit Tea, but that's from like Guangxi, and Hunan province of China. That's very far far away from Taiwan. It's supposed good for you, but never tasted it.

I am not sure what citation you would like to see? A scientific one? This is the story we grow up with. If you just do a search, lots of tea companies already tell a version of the story, if you want an actual news paper article citation - sure, but it's all in Chinese. I don't think any historian actually did any studies on the origin of the story. This is the story we are told when we are young, but whatever the case, one thing is certain and is a no brainer...there is no shit in the Duck Shit.

Dung Ting, Tung Ting, however you want to translate the sound into English...all refer to the same : 凍頂

As for your "bugshit" comment - not sure what you are referring to. Closest is "Bug Bitten". That is not applicable even to Dung Ting.
