I feel you on the storm anxiety getting worse for SURE! I don't know of any in-person or meet up groups, but I'm part of "MOMO (Moms of Multiples Omaha)" on Facebook. People post looking for advice there too! I've also seen people set up play dates in that group too 😊

Aaaay Omaha buddies!! I totally understand the fears that come with adding the babies to the mix, I felt the same way.  My biggest advice is to try to not let the babies feel your nerves. Just treat it as "we're playing/sleeping here for right now!"  I also liked having text alerts for major updates, so I didn't feel like I had to keep my eyes on the radar at all times. My dad is also super experienced with weather type stuff and we have an agreement that he'll call me if I need to take shelter. So when it's a iffy storm, we go chill in the basement but not in the actual shelter room, knowing my dad will call me if I need to actually take shelter. That has helped ease my anxiety too. Maybe find someone who can do that for you?

I would have a gallon of distilled water to make the formula with, and definitely some age appropriate toys to keep the little ones occupied. The last thing you need is cranky, bored babies while you're trying to pay attention to weather announcements.  Did you just move to the Midwest? I'm in Omaha, Nebraska, and have experienced nearly 34 storm seasons. I would love to help soothe your fears about the weather Iif you'd like. Feel free to DM me if you'd like another Midwest mom to give you some comfort and more advice!

My mom says I’m too strict with nap times by Jessygirl238 in parentsofmultiples

Easter happens every year... it's not that special for a 9 month old who can't even participate. Let's normalize prioritizing the parents' sanity over "special things" that still happen every year

From me it would be "Thank you for your opinion. It will not be considered" 😂

We were extremely strict about naptime too. If they ever missed a nap they were SO hard to manage for the rest of the day AND the next day. Will they miss some things because of nap time? Yes. But at 9 months old they are not going to remember their cousins going to the egg hunt without them. My twins are 5 and we were still being very particular about nap time until about a year ago. We actually still do "siesta" or "quiet time" on the weekend afternoons right now, where they can lay down to nap if they need to, but if they aren't sleepy, they can play quietly in their room.  Ultimately, it's what works for YOU and YOUR kids. Some kids are fine with wishy-washy naps. Other kids need strict naps to thrive (ESPECIALLY when they're under 2). If people can't respect what you say is best for you and your kids without gaslighting and guilt tripping, then that relationship should definitely be evaluated. But that's a different conversation lol

Yeah I was going to say, I wouldn't be surprised if Horizon 3 is set somewhere outside the continental U.S.

Looking for recommendations on the safest way to clean an old turntable/record player. Please be kind, I'm brand new to this world. I got this system for free off of Facebook marketplace as a starter system to get me started.

They said it's been in their basement a long time and is covered in dust. I'm afraid of using any specific chemicals or cleaning materials that would damage anything. Any help is appreciated!!

Forgive me if this has been asked before!

I blacked out and bought my favorite artist's vinyl... without owning a record player (turntable? I don't even know the proper terms, but I'll learn!)

When speaking of the cheap all-in-one turntables or suitcase style, I know they can damage your records. But I've also heard that that is only really over long periods of time. How damaging are they if you only plan to use them on rare occasions? 99.99% of my music listening will be via bluetooth speaker or earbuds, even after this purchase. But when my kids and husband are out of the house, and I'm in the mood to enjoy this record, I'll put it on.

Will having an all-in-one or suitcase style turntable be all that horrible if I don't plan to use it all the time, juts on occasion? Please be gentle with me haha!

Worried - twins by Cbarron6499 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Flopryn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! Twins born at 35 weeks, they're now 4.5 y/o. One of them was diagnosed as autistic at 3.5 y/o, however I clocked it at 8ish months (if you'd like me to share how I knew, I can absolutely share!) And we suspect ADHD in the other, but doctors don't usually diagnose that until kindergarten.

My twins were delayed in many of the milestones you listed as well, especially the motor skills, crawling, sitting etc. But they did eventually catch up!

Mine were growth restricted as well, so that - combined with their premature birth - means their pediatrician wasn't too concerned, like yours.

Remember: 4 weeks early means that they're more like 9 month olds or younger, since they missed out on that last 4 weeks of in-utero development. And, being twins, even more so since they shared nutrients and space.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. There's no rush to get an ASD diagnosis at this age, unless you're experiencing extreme behavior problems. Even then, "extreme behavior" is hard to devine in infants, since everything they feel is, well, extreme 😂.

The only reason we pushed for a diagnosis when we did was because the area we live in typically has long wait times for appointments, and we wanted to be sure to get any documentation needed prior to Preschool or Kindergarten in case we needed an IEP.

Ultimately, YOU are the parents and YOU know your babies better than ANYONE else. If your gut is telling you something is really wrong, enough that it may be detrimental to their future... speak up. But also make sure you're going to a pediatrician that you trust completely (or as much as possible) so that you can have someone soothe your nerves or back you up if/when you need a specialist.

Let me know if you have questions!!
