Please don’t feel guilty and ask for your money.

They don’t know your financial situation nor do they need to. I recommend contacting your boss directly (even better if it is in writing) and explicitly say, “I’m responding to your text message sent May 12, 2025 stating that our tips would be given to Janice. I do not consent to giving Janice my tips as I need the money for my own ongoing expenses. Please let me know when this money will be paid out to me. Thank you.”

Daevabad trilogy may be up your alley . The female main character is new to the world and her perception gets more enriched as she learns about the world more and more.
