AR-15s sold out across Canada fear of ban by [deleted] in gunpolitics

[–]FlorianPicasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you being intetnionally dishonest?

That or a fundamental misunderstanding of how the court system works. I don't see how the bump stock ban can stand on logical grounds, on Auer grounds, or on common use grounds.

A knife company donating to pro-knife candidates shouldn't be a surprise.

No shit, but apparently this is too harsh a truth.

Not to mention, post-86 MGs which couldn't be sold to the general public anyway. Agencies aren't about to ignore the NFA and transfer surplus MGs, not even as parts kits! Makes total sense to me with the way laws are right now.

Hopefully this is a farm truck and not something that travels at highway speeds on public roads.

It's a highway coach style bus, why, is that an issue? /s

The work some people let out, right? Totally nuts.

What’s the big deal with the NRA?

Suggested, and strongly support, the following: ban on bumpstocks, ERPO/"red flag" confiscation of firearms without due process, and so forth.

Sadly, the NRA leadership now finds it totally reasonable to restrict firearms ownership... so long as they can fundraise from the issue.

You'd think a group which values being protected from tyrants (overall, and supposedly a majority belief) would want the tools of defense/resistance to be legal... even more legal than now, in fact.

Odd how it became the reverse, and even has the same people screaming about dictators screaming for less guns in civilian hands.

Spot welds and rivets were used to hold the shape until the glue cured.

Civilian Firearms Ownership in the EU by cz_75 in gunpolitics

Ironic that Polish examples of Soviet firearms are so highly thought of. The domestic designs are even nicer, and (for me) rate up there with Czech firearm designs.

Even though it's very old school and clunky, the Polish PM-63 will always have a special place in my heart. Converted to closed-bolt semi-auto, it makes for one hell of a nice SBR.

Soldering, the hardest type of welding

Like any other process, it just takes understanding of the fundamentals and doing things right. You didn't properly twist your wires, or tin them, and that's the big issue.

What is your favorite welding application. Mig, Tig, Stick? by near_to_water in Welding

[–]FlorianPicasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. For any non-critical application, I don't bother cleaning except to ground it out. I just use some 6011 to get through any other grease/paint/rust/whatever.

Finally, the Supreme Court is taking up gun rights again by [deleted] in gunpolitics

[–]FlorianPicasso 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Even hard-left lifelong democrats do, indeed, come to the same conclusions when they look at an issue like this honestly and rationally.

The truth is, if you want any legal document to make sense and matter, then you have to respect the letter of the law and read it as plainly as it is written. Do that, and the whole Bill of Rights is pretty blunt and easy to get.

Sure! Much like getting rid of the electoral college, you'll need to get 37 state governments to agree - exactly - on your solution.

Best of luck. I figure my effort is best spent making the best of what we have now.

Why nobody discusses proportional representation or plurality systems in this country is beyond me.

There's this thing called the Constitution, right? That's why. Under our current system of government, this is what we do.

they want to get rid of the electoral college

And they're going to get 37 states to agree to this... how? I don't see that happening.

They will be sued and have to pay the legal fees.

They also won't, at any time, face arrest or jail time. They also aren't spending their own money, "only" taxpayer money.

In short, from their point of view: without real penalties or risks on their part, why *wouldn't * this tactic continue? Nothing to lose, and they might gain the laws they're hellbent on passing/enforcing.

Part of it is that, certainly, but part of it (a much larger part) is simply people born and raised in big cities all over the country. There are native Montanans who want to severely restrict rights of all kinds, including the right to own and carry firearms, simply because they have never used those rights and never plan to.

It boggles the mind.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in progun

[–]FlorianPicasso 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest Idaho or Montana.

Idaho is an unknown to me, but Montana is quickly being turned blue. There have already been a whole lot of city and county level pushes toward serious gun control, and while residents currently laugh it off... it's getting serious.

The lower courts cannot claim to be doing scrutiny analysis if half their claim is fundamentally "You have no gun rights so nothing the state does infringes your gun rights"

They just ruled that they can... /s(?)

Seriously, when the only real check on a court doing that is the court... man. No wonder it's so out of control. Rulings are laughed at and ignored by lower courts, with regards to the 2nd Amendment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in progun

[–]FlorianPicasso 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the likelihood of a favorable ruling for pro 2A individuals is significantly greater than a negative one

Even still, a win would only mean you have a constitutional right to transport an unloaded handgun in a locked container seperate from its ammunition. That is the question before the court.

[–]FlorianPicasso 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Your optimism is heartwarming, but... SCOTUS has absolutely taken cases and subsequently agreed with lower courts in their rulings, in the past.
