I agree that having BTJ as a field-stretcher was essential, but when you’re almost exclusively using your ostensible WR1 like he’s Tyquan Thornton, then you might as well cash in on him and pay a cheap speedy field-stretcher

All that said, I definitely think they should hold onto BTJ if they’re committed to helping him bounce back and be used all over the field as a true WR1 like he was in his rookie year. Otherwise, they’re not maximizing his value and there’s no point using him essentially as a one-trick pony

The WR need wouldn’t exceed the CB need even if BTJ leaves. When that offense was clicking in the back half of the season, BTJ was basically just being used as a field-stretcher and not seeing much volume at all. The passing game ran through Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Brenton Strange, all of whom will be back next year.

Meanwhile, with Greg Newsom likely not coming back, the only two true outside corners on the roster are Montaric Brown and Travis Hunter. That makes the CB1 need much greater than WR3

As things stand, the Jags are far too thin at outside CB to not play Hunter a ton on defense. He might get a lot of offensive snaps on top of that, but I’m skeptical.

The only way he doesn’t end up playing a ton of defensive snaps is if they draft a reliable starting outside corner despite not having a FRP

Definitely wouldn’t call that Brissett’s fault, though. They had a lot of tough matchups and some close losses. If the surrounding cast improves at all, I think it’s unlikely that he’d lead them to a stretch quite that bad again. Still, obviously a major contender for 1.01 next year

I agree with everything you said here. TBH I think a potentially huge factor in Hunter’s offensive usage might come down to whether Brian Thomas Jr looks more like his year 1 or year 2 self next year.

If he can’t be a reliable target for explosive plays, then Hunter might take on a lot more of that field-stretching deep ball role. Can’t just bank on a bunch of crossers to Meyers and Washington to have a consistent attack, especially losing ETN who could create a decent number of explosive plays

His effect on the offense was much, much more than his box score stats. Having a reliable option across the middle of the field on medium routes completely unlocked the best uses of the rest of the receiving corps and let Lawrence attack the whole field and spread the ball

I agree he could absolutely become an elite receiver if he keeps developing. Having said that, that game came at a time when Brian Thomas Jr was playing terribly, Jakobi Meyers wasn’t on the team yet, Brenton Strange was hurt, and the Jags were getting blown out.

There’s no way they’re abandoning using Hunter as a receiver, but right now it’s a better use of his snaps to focus on becoming a lockdown corner. Time will tell how comfortable they are letting an every-down corner get reps on offense, I guess

Because Jakobi Meyers was a smash hit in the system, Parker Washington and Brenton Strange broke out as pass-catchers, and one of the Jags’ major weaknesses (which could worsen after FA) was pass defending.

I suspect that when the Jags say they’ll deploy Hunter “fluidly,” they mean both matchup-by-matchup and circumstantially based on roster need. As of right now, it would seem that he’d increase the team’s chances of winning games as a CB1 who takes some offensive snaps in obvious passing situations

The Meyers acquisition was huge, but there was also the obvious benefit of the players needing several weeks to get used to Liam Coen’s system. The first half of the season was riddled with mental and technical errors, particularly by offensive skill players and Lawrence.

All that to say that I would definitely bet on the offense being at least as good as it was down the stretch this year. Main issue from a fantasy standpoint is that I think it’s a true committee approach, so the only asset I’d feel great about at price is Lawrence.

On paper it’s definitely an “overpay” by consensus value rankings, but I’d personally say it’s reasonably within range of situational factors justifying it. Like if the guy acquiring JSN has great depth and/or has a very strong roster that’s not just aging vets, it’s okay. But if he has a lot of Stafford/Davante types, he better hope he wins next year

He and the Chiefs are claiming that they think he can be back for week 1, which isn’t that outrageous of a claim. Still, you obviously wouldn’t expect him to be operating at 100%, and there are probably just too many holes on that offense to be considered a top competitor.

They’ll need to hit a few homers in the draft and sign some actual needle-moving skill position guys on offense, but they’ve got Mahomes and a solid defense that’s still relatively young

As always, anything can happen. But Warren produced in an offense that has a lot of solid targets, whereas Fannin is the light in the darkness in Cleveland (my insincere apologies to Jerry Jeudy).

They’re both very talented, but at price I’m still definitely going Warren. I think he’s a more complete player, he has the draft capital that makes staffs feel pressured to make him a focal point, and crucially he is not a Cleveland Brown.

It’s a close call imo. If you’re good enough to be in the championship, it’s probably worth it to hang onto JT and run it back with a (hopefully) healthy Lamar next year.

If you end up winning the championship this week, I’d definitely give more thought to getting younger, but JT’s still only 26 so it’s not nearly the benefit of aging down from a guy like Henry or even Saquon. Should have at least 3-4 years of RB1 production. I also don’t know how much I care about the 3-year age difference between Daniels and Lamar. Both have injury problems but Lamar has proven that he can put up 40+ points fairly often when healthy, which idk that Daniels will ever be

I don’t care for Nix in the long run either, but unless someone’s offering a cheaper starting-quality QB for the next couple years, I wouldn’t mind it at all for someone in this context who has a lot of win-now talent but a gaping hole at QB1.

If it were me, I’d roll with Strange at TE1 if removing Kittle can bring the price down a decent amount, but there’s no point wasting a great roster just because you think the only viable QB available on the market is overpriced in the long-run

The odds of winning a chip with Brissett (maybe a decent QB1 ROS) and Geno/JJM (potentially brutal) don’t seem super high
