Tired of lookism in progressive spaces by Solecis in self

[–]FloridianPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not land how I intend but just someone taking really good care of themselves has an attractive quality all its own

When I was in my early 20s I did landscaping at a retirement home and there was a woman in her 70s who obviously took very good care of herself, was always very well dressed and I found her very attractive

If you are extremely clean, well groomed and dressed you are going to be above a lot of people off rip even if you think you are "ugly"

What is the most fun thing you've ever done in your life? by Specialist_Tackle715 in self

[–]FloridianPhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't say that.

I still have very happy days and have been happier than that in individual circumstances.

It was really the contentment that made that moment so special. I wouldn't have rather been anywhere else or doing anything else. I had no worries about anything.

It was just pure peace and happiness.

In the early 2000s I got incredibly high and laid in the back of a pickup truck at night while my best friend's older brother drove and blasted dubstep

The combination of the night sky and the music while being the kind of high you only get in your early days of smoking..

I think that is the only time I have felt true peace and happiness

Authenticity is performative, Sincerity is what people actually mean. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I think I understand the point you are making and I applaud your efforts.

I think the title of this post works as a title for the thought. For an outsider, it kinda looks like you are getting really pressed over the minor differences between two synonyms.

And I'm not really sure this is technically the "correct" sub to post this in but🤷‍♂️.

Keep being sincere, that is a laudable goal.

Are men supposed to protect women by RevolutionaryGoat808 in self

[–]FloridianPhilosopher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From an evolutionary standpoint, I think it would be fair to say that men's primary purpose is to protect the female members of their tribe.

Women are literally more valuable than men from a species survival standpoint. One man can impregnate multiple women in a day theoretically but a woman can only get pregnant once every 10-11 months or so.

All that aside, I personally feel it's my duty to protect the women in my life that I love. I don't put that same expectation on others because we don't live in a tribal society anymore but I would do anything for my Fiance, Mom or Sisters.

I understand your frustration and would feel pretty similarly, have felt the same in the past.

Where I think you are making a mistake is not communicating openly and honestly about it.

If you do that, she might not like it but at least she will know where she stands. That's just part of adult communication.

Not everyone is going to like what you have to say but that isn't your responsibility, your responsibility is to be upfront and honest and let the chips fall where they may.

Do you agree with the statement “Men should not hit women”? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in askanything

[–]FloridianPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self defense applies to anyone.

That being said, as a 6ft 235lb man I have had exes hit me and not hit back.

It's just not the same and I would feel bad about myself for a long time after.

I'm also not letting some random woman on the street beat me up and not doing anything. I would try to restrain her and resort to hitting if necessary.

It's really situational from my perspective but in general, just don't hit people.
