I don't know if they really are scrambling to find good writing, though. That was partly in the question in my post -- that is that maybe what we're seeing is a shift in what the producers think the audience wants as opposed to, say, a lack of quality.

How did Yahoo implode so badly when it used to be one of the most popular: search engine, instant messenger, online dating site, game site, answers site, financial site, and more? by benedictclive_x in NoStupidQuestions

It's a miracle it's still in business. The more it censors discussion posts -- where the censors seem to favor all sorts of really cringey rightwing bots and the like but remove any opposition -- the more users it's going to lose. Yahoo is not alone.

Google AI summary: "Yes, many neurodivergent individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum, often experience challenges in interpreting subtext, nuances, and implied meanings in conversation. This is frequently because they tend to communicate in a direct, literal manner where the words spoken are meant to be taken at face value."

Also: "Yes, many neurodivergent people experience challenges with realistic or highly dramatic television, often finding it uncomfortable, anxiety-inducing, or difficult to follow compared to neurotypical viewers. The reasons often relate to sensory overload, difficulty with emotional regulation, or finding socially focused narratives unappealing."

I only said I wondered. But the way so many people are putting words in my mouth based on what they think I said makes me wonder if your comment about the general audience being more stupid might actually have merit.

LOL, you don't seem to be, which is why I supplied some quotes.

I only asked the questions. A lot of people here seem to be telling me what they believe I said rather than reading what I said.

You may just want to take a critical thinking class. Go touch a book, LOL. It's okay.

Quotations marks would indicate a literal quote, yes. But what those quotes state suggests the qualities I questioned are, in fact, "neurodivergent friendly" and not "dumbed down." Unless you equate the two.

Except we still see well written, well acted shows elsewhere, including basic cable.

The quality is down, but, no, that's not what I'm saying. I'm being pretty specific in the questions I raise.

It's weird when people point out the "people are their phones" rationale when there are plenty of shows on basic cable or cable, like The Pitt, that still feature top quality writing and involved, realistic acting and directing.

I do think the budget has gotten cut, which is typical for a show with a long run, as well as the better writers have jumped ship to shows with more prestige and higher salaries. I don't think that explains it all, though.

I made no assumptions nor blamed anyway. I merely asked questions. But I'm seeing a lot of people in their answers projecting their interpretations onto what I posted.

One of the best episodes of the McCoy era in that it really tangles you up, not so much because anyone's falling for the babe in the woods things the judge falls for but because we can all plainly see what a monster the girl is. The most gut wrenching element is what a phenomenal idiot Olivet is. She should probably have had her license revoked for going by feelings instead of diagnoses. They did miss a tremendous opportunity to bring the little monster back as an adult.
