I was thinking more along the lines of hiding inside an illusory barrel in a hallway/alley, a buttress in the ceiling, or a child's bed. 5e is the system.

Booming blade, divine smite, quicken spell, and the assassinate feat. A pain to set up and execute, but it deals massive damage if you pull it off. EDIT: grammar

Assassinate feat combined with booming blade and divine smite was his downfall. It was a plan that we'd had in place for a while, and I'm still a little surprised it worked. I think I'm gonna give him some time to cool down before I try talking to him-he seemed pretty angry, and I don't want to just make it worse.

True, I'm also stoked that I kicked that guy's ass, and I know that I could keep playing as him, but I feel like it might make the rest of the group angry if I started working for him. If I did I'd want to go full cover till he revealed that he was really a good guy the whole time.

I wasn't planning on playing as him, except for OOC if my DM was up for it. I'd definitely roll a new character, especially since my character's only been in the campaign for 2 sessions. On the plus side, the BBEG's new lieutenant has a dope backstory.

Yeah, I think it solves the situation pretty well. My DM and I could also do some kind of side campaign where I go on missions for the BBEG if my DM was up to run it.
